I'm just a weepy mess now from listening to this but thank you for uploading it. I saw this production at Lincoln Center with my husband in 1994. Our first trip to New York, our first Broadway show. Now I'm going to listen to the rest of the album.
A nod to the genius of Oscar Hammerstein II for structuring this powerful, romantic and brilliant scene, which captures the enduring magic of my favorite musical!
If I loved you Time and again I would try to say All I'd want you to know If I loved you Words wouldn't come in an easy way Round in circles I'd go Longin' to tell you but afraid and shy I'd let my golden chances pass me by Soon you'd leave me Off you would go in the mist of day Never, never to know How I love you, if I loved you Soon you'd leave me Off you would go in the mist of day Never, never to know How I love you, if I loved y
in my opinion the story is happy and sad at the same time. it is sad because of the mistakes that Billy made. he beats Julie and is killed while attempting a robbery to make money for his family. it is happy because Billy redeems himself at the end. he is allowed one day back on Earth to set things right and to teach his daughter that in spite of the mistakes he made she has to stand on her own two feet
Coming back here in 2024. Murphy's performance seems earnest, but hesitant. I like that for her character. However, Hayden shows such great range! He puts real disdain in his voice when singing about how he would be in a Dickie and a collar and a tie, but he puts so much tenderness in the main melody. He especially is smooth and tender at the climax of his line. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the way the performers sing it reveal far more than the lyrics would let on

Very nicely done. Murphy is perfect as Julie. Hayden sings with passion in this revival of the role he did the year before in London.
A powerful example of the power of music to touch and lift the heart.
There is pure magic here.
Stunning, really!
This is beautiful!
Wow..... it’s amazing. I am shocked on how good they are at singing. 10/10

So beautiful
I think this is one of my favorite love songs. Although the story in the play isn't
Patrick Wheatley me, too!
Same. It's a shame that a show with such beautiful music did not age well D:
First, it's a musical. Second: the musical symmetry makes the story secondary. I have no qualms with the story, and it has a great theme.
Seriously. Amazing score, repulsive story.
