    Audio only. I'm not sure what choir this is with. This is not the familiar recording with the Male Choir of St. Petersburg, or the one he did with Accordance, although it could be with either of these choirs.

    I'm amazed by how Pasyukov achieves such a warm and rich tone. His voice sounds so rich and filling, and he has the sound almost no other Oktavist has. In Glenn Miller's performance, his tone gets somewhat dry towards the low G and even Bb, but Pasyukov's Bb sounds like liquid gold flowing from a fountain.
    Thank you so much for this recording!

      Sorry, Hitashi son - I had an opportunity to listen this very choir, and Pasyukov, in 1997. in their Belgrade concert - they natural sound was exactly like in this record. After the concert, I bought their CD and was amazed - it was exactly the same sound on that record and in live (they sang some same songs, so I was able to compare). No difference whatsoever. It was their natural sound, and Pasyukov's natural boost. Only, in that concert he didn't sing solo in this song, but in "Twelve Brigands". And he made a clear and resonant G1 at the end of the song.

    • @boramaks

    This simply sound divine. The depth of this guy is unbelieveble and incomparable to other basso. I think 99% of all basso in the world can't produce a Bb1 like this with these type of harmonics. If you hear closely you can hear the overtones so clearly, this is the main phenomenon with Pasjukov. Superb!

    • @TheOktavismChannel
      @TheOktavismChannel  8 років тому +52

      mvdbergrede Yes, it is hard to choose a favorite because these terribly unique voices all bring to light a different aspect of the piece. For over-performed classics for certain voices (e.g., "Nessun Dorma" for tenor) it is really necessary to sort through the thousands of performances and find the good ones, the favorites. With Chesnokov's classic for oktavist soloist, however, the performances are so rare that we don't really need to choose a favorite out of the tiny handful of performances available. Instead, we need to cherish each interpretation for its unique beauty!

      Along with Glenn Miller's performance, this is one of my favorites. Pasyukov's voice is so majestic here, but of course Glenn's holds a special place in my heart as the only recording with the low G as Chesnokov originally wrote it.

    • @ThinkingSpeck
      @ThinkingSpeck 10 років тому +3

      k barber Yeah, I love this for the tone more than the pitch - there's an effortless warmth to it that stands in pretty stark contrast to the usual vocal fry of the oktavist.
      I hadn't realised this piece was written with a bottom G - that's pretty crazy. I've sung that note a few times in my life, but never in performance and never without a bad cold.

    • @TheOktavismChannel
      @TheOktavismChannel  10 років тому +6

      ThinkingSpeck I wouldn't call the technique employed by Russian oktavists vocal fry, since fry typically is barely audible, and certainly not audible over an entire choir when singing a solo piece like Chesnokov's, but I do agree the Pasyukov's tone is far darker and smoother than almost another oktavist with the exception of Zlatopolsky. When pitched this low, the human voice just tends to have a more growly sound (just as a contrabasson does). By the way I have a brief clip from the performance of the original version with the bottom G from Glenn Miller on my "Profundos and Oktavists vol. 2" if you haven't already heard it.
      Basso Profundos and Oktavists - Vol. 2

    • @pennymcwilliams
      @pennymcwilliams 8 років тому +3

      k barber I think he was one of the very few who could truly pull this off entirely on his own. As you point out, many bass voices that normally sound wonderfully resonant get more dry and thin when they right down to those lowest notes (including Glenn Miller, to my mind). As the aim of most choirmasters would be to make the overall piece as sound as good as possible, the temptation will always be to use more than one basso profundo voice to fill out the sound, if you are in the privileged position to have them - no matter what the composer may have written .
      But Pasyukov really does not need that.
      Does anyone wknow which voice Chesnokov had in mind for this, or who performed it first?

    • @TheOktavismChannel
      @TheOktavismChannel  8 років тому +5

      I agree--Pasyukov's voice has a richness throughout that is quite rare. I don't actually know who Chesnokov composed this for if he had a certain voice in mind. Most of what I know about the piece, I've written here on my website: www.oktavism.com/#!Chesnokovs-Do-Not-Reject-Me-in-My-Old-Age-Op-40-No-5/cu6k/013FFEBD-DD81-4E78-B0A2-BB4AB9FC3058

    I'd like to hear this track in its original version. Listen to the decay at 3:51, you can hear the artificial reverb ringing. That's not the sound of stone. Also the bass frequencies have been artificially reinforced. There's a fine performance in here somewhere, without all the improvements. He doesn't need the help.

      someone who listened him live said in the comments that he sounded like this. Maybe they added reverb to recreate the real sound because old recordings didn't capture the lower harmonics.

    Во-первых, это поистине сверхчеловеческое, что Пасюков смог извлечь такой регистр звуков из своей голосовой щели. И вторая нелепость в том, что он мог контролировать и рулить ею так, что был профессионалом в своей гильдии. Такие люди встречаются не раз на миллион, а раз на сто миллионов. Даже сам Святопольский, хотя и обладал мощным диапазоном, не имел такой силы голоса, как Пасюков. Его голосовая щель, гортань, голосовые связки и легкие должны были быть очень тщательно просвечены рентгеном, чтобы хоть как-то распознать это поистине космическое явление.
    Po pierwsze to jest iście nadludzkie, że Pasjukow był w stanie ze swojej głośni wydobyć taki rejestr dźwięków. A drugą niedorzecznością jest to, że on potrafił to kontrolować i sterować, i to w taki sposób, że był profesjonalistą w swym cechu. Tacy ludzie trafiają się nie raz na milion, ale raz na sto milionów. Nawet sam Sviatopolski, choć miał potężny zakres, nie miał aż takiej siły głosu, jak Pasjukow. Jego głośnia, krtań, struny głosowe i płuca powinny były zostać niezwykle dokładnie prześwietlone, by choć w jakiś sposób poznać ten iście kosmiczny fenomen.

      @Aaron Anderson I deleted these comments 10 months ago out of the amount of stupidity these 2 comments had. JD doesn't fry everything, have you heard him talk? Him sounding like absolute shit in a choir is your opinion has he never sang in a choir, the only time he did was when he was a child. JD does have a powerful voice, one of his friends who sang with him stated he would turn HIS volume down to half every time. Irrelevant.

    • @Vanerov
      @Vanerov 3 роки тому

      @Aaron Anderson JD isn't using chest-fry. The sound is smooth on some of the mid- 1st-octave notes, but lower they don't sound that good because it's lower, he has done relaxed proper chest notes, I feel you just heard JD once or twice and just heard him sing and called it chest-fry. Compressed? Jesus... It sounds bad and "somewhat compressed" because JD himself wasn't that good of a singer in his later years since it ruined his voice in a way, hearing him in his younger days he sounded a lot better.

    Солист хорош. Дирижор истеричен в проведениях( ускорения истеричны, как по мне)
    Слушается в целом хорошо. Низкий голос истерика никак не должна окружать. Дирижёр должен свою истерику дома оставлять или, если сможет, духовнику поведать.
