@@GeoffMoorePhotography No worries mate, top stuff! tell you what I use, a bit of foam underlay type stuff, saves your knees then you simply fold it down with the wet bits on the inside and slip it back into your bag almost flat, absolute pence and a top bit of kit to allow you get low and stay dry / comfortable! you can get gelert ones from go outdoors for a few quid but offcuts from anywhere do the same job.

Thank you Shar. Its not far away 6 weeks or so and it shall begin :) ... in fact before we get there I was out doing some photography the weekend just gone and stopped at a a bramble bush, 20mins later I was still stood eating the now ripening blackberries, and I thought the blackberry is quite an interesting subject, so might do a quick macor vlog/video on photographing them as I think they could make for some interesting images.

That image at 09:10 is absolutely stunning. The led light does a great job. I was out photographing mushrooms yesterday. There are loads about but also a lot of foragers! I hope they leave some for us.
I usually have a dog with me and in fairness she is great. Same can't be said for this giant poodle thing that came out of nowhere yesterday and was jumping around like a flea. I had just stopped because I spotted my first mushroom and no sooner had I got my camera out but the poodle had trampled it and the owner still nowhere to be seen:) You win some you lose some!

Thanks for your comment Evil. Its been a great season for the shrooms so far, less so in my local wood as they are general sporadic any ways but other woodlands around the country i have heard reports of the fruiting bodies of all varieties being in bumper full bloom, so I imagine the foragers are rubbing their hands with glee. On my video there where several dog walkers, and unfortunately the woods rules that dogs should be kept on leaves is generally ignored as such was interrupted several times by wandering dogs being boisterous around me. A little off putting when your flat on your belly with lots of camera gear around and coming nose to nose with a dog without an owner! :)

I think for me, a telephoto up to around 200mm would be my second lens choice If you get very low to the ground and shoot across to your subject from a few feet away often gives a lovely sense of depth and interesting perspective to your image. I might even try that myself on my next outing into the woods.

Hi, I love taking photos of fungi. I need to invest in a tripod to help me when taking images so low down. What would you recommend? Thanks

    • @GeoffMoorePhotography
      @GeoffMoorePhotography  4 роки тому +1

Hello Francesca, thank you for taking the time to comment.
Tripod recommendations are such a complex thing as there are many variables to consider and things to understand about what you want to do and may want to do going forwards.
However, with the understanding that photographing fungi is the primary purpose for it I would recommend looking for one with a reversible centre column.
This will allow you to position your camera under the tripod rather than on top and give you a much lower working position.
I would also suggest investing in the best quality tripod you can afford for various reasons including better stability, leg angles, weight etc. the reason for this is you never know your tastes may changes and you might want to do landscapes or low light photography in the future, and investing in a quality tripod at the start will be much more cost effective as you progress.
The other recommendation I would make would be to look at getting a water proof bean bag to rest your camera on and some plastic sheeting or some other water proof material so you can actually kneel/lay down on the floor comfortably whilst staying dry. (Assuming mobility isn't an issue for you). This will make getting those very low and unique shots of fungi so much easier and more enjoyable
      Regards
      Geoff

Hey, thanks for asking. its the Mindshift Backlight 36L I highly recommend it, super comfortable and can carry a lot of gear!
I can carry snacks & clothes (hat, gloves, weather proofs) 2 camera bodies, 1x DSLR Full Frame & 1X Mirrorless with 3 lens each. Mavic Air, Ipad and cables, x2 tripods. Just amazing! - amzn.to/3uRvRFU - Let me know if you get it and your thoughts.

Hey Kiln, Ulanzi Porcket Mini 96 led panel. Think I paid about £10 or so from Amazon. Has a switchable filter to give either a cool light or warm. Also has adjustable brightness.

I guess you don't understand macro photography at all. You never use f 2.8 to have such a narrow depth of field in macro.

Too dark? can you provide me an example or a timestamp so I can better understand. Or do you mean in general? if the latter i'm in a woodland in the UK on an overcast day. Not much light here for 9 months of the year at the best of times. :)
