As you were using it on the field, my thoughts were that it seemed to do okay when there wasn't much stuff to rake up. It left a nice pattern but wasn't the Ruckus Rake. But then you showed the gravel and that was awesome. I've watched you resurface your parking/turnaround pad & driveway a couple of times. This does look like you laid new gravel and with only a few passes. That's really nice. Thanks for showing us.
As soon as I saw that in operation, Bealy Good’ mulch spreading came to mind and slicken up paddocks and drive way fluffing, this is, in my humble opinion anyway, going to be a very handy attachment, thanks for the update sir.
Chris has a habitat of acquiring attachments to make his job easier better all the time it has its applications like all the others not afraid of spending dollars where needed for finish work a great tool to be used in conjunction with a edged bucket just great well done Cheers
Nice tool! That would be really handy to rehabilitate an old gravel road before adding more stone. Pretty amazing results and it didn't look to be too dusty.
Very nice attachment, Chris, great for dressing up and laying down some seed. After watching you for 6+ years I've come to believe the skid steer is your favorite to operate.
Actually I'd thought the same but he has said a couple of times that he doesn't like the ride. Apparently it is not as smooth a ride as it looks like it should be.
Over the past several years I heard Chris say on more than one occasion, that his favorite equipment is driving the dozer, and these date back to several years before Chris purchased his first Dozer, the smaller Komatsu.
Hey Chris !!! WOW !!!! That gives you the opinion of cleaning up stones & Roots B/4 the rake hits them & NO flat tires like the ""Ruckus " Rake !! What a time saver & Fuel saver that will be !!! 🙂🙃😉😊👍👍👍👍👍
I like it. The refresh of the gravel area certainly went very well using that bucket. I still feel like the Ruckus Rake is the better attachment overall, but this does seem to have a place and application.
This rake doesn't have the fingers like the Ruckus and you could see it had some trouble with grass and larger rocks but i agree it did a heck of a job on gravel.
When doing existing grass areas you’re supposed to go north/south. East/west. It’ll grind 3” of depth. But when there’s grass you need to go a touch slower to allow it to “pulverize” the areas
I’ve sewn long enough that I spent a certain amount of time thinking about matching the lines at the “seams” / overlaps. The diagnostic use of pattern variation is probably more useful. The bucket did a nice job on the driveway.
Wow that attachment is great. Driveway is amazing. Need to figure pricing for stone driveway refresh service. Nothing like a new work toy. Have a great week. Good video. Thanks Chris.
Mate looks great. An idea for you and the manufacturer. if they installed a flap on the back above the rake, the debris can be flicked into the bucket and dumbed out of the way, when just fluffing close the flat and of you go. The little rows it leaves will be good for when seeding as well.
I did notice the 'V" pattern it leaves too !! Also looks like, ya got to find the sweet spot, when ya start to back drag with it but, does really good it's looking like !! And really did fluff the gravel back up really nice, did look like new stone had been put down !! Great as always Chris !! Have a Great Evening !! And, On too the Next !!
The first time I noticed that those power rakes really shine on gravel parking lots is when Diesel Creek did that neglected church parking lot. Made me want to get one even though my parking area in asphalt.
Hydra rake come in mighty handy on those gold course pond jobs, golf cart path refresh job. it might not be as efficient as a dedicated power rake for every job/application but those quick refresh jobs it oughta shine. one less step unhooking the smooth bucket, switching over to power rake. real test would be Geoff's 90 acre minefield /rut hell
Good idea! With your other rake you have to come back to move the big rocks and roots after some passes. With this rake/bucket you can do it after each run if you want to.
On the dirt it did alright, left an interesting diagonal pattern that would channel run off alright into washboards at the edge of the field. Gravel looks like it would be a better fit for the bucket. Maybe a good 3/4- would be the largest down to maybe pea gravel or crushed shells. Sand could be a hit or miss though I can see where roughing out topsoil for broadcast seeding or sod laying where the ripples might come in handy. Run over to get the pattern, throw seed and fertilizer, go back 90° to get the seed in. Or with sod, roll across it with no overlap with just the tracks of the skidsteer to get the sod good and pressed in to the fluffed ground. It could be good for quick touchup slicking to a dam face or driveway that you're grading smooth with the skid steer already. Use the rotorake to work out small wash ruts or just break up crust on clay. It's not a super replacement for the rukus rake by a long shot. But it is better than hauling two attachments to do a little clean up work.
Mango Bango Chris done bought himself a new toy. One he definitely needed I'd say from the bang up job it did cleaning up the area to be farmed and especially the job it did in the gravel area in front of his old shop now storage area. Always nice to see a Chris Letsdig18 short episode pop up in the evening in my feed. Now to watch a Captain Kleeman episode of him working with his 555 on that road he's building on his new property.
All these tools are nice to use. Another one to consider is the ABI SR3. I use it to prep an area as well as a finish tool. Strong as a bull! Less moving parts. Hogs dirt and rips roots out. Also works well to break up frozen gravel on an icy driveway in Wisconsin. It is used to cleanup an area after dropping trees and pulling stumps with an excavator by moving both forward and back moving debris to a spoil pile and then breaking up the soil and smoothing the site in prep for seed. Does the same for food plots and cleaning up and shaping a site after other contractors do their thing! No - I do not work for ABI ! 👍
Its surely not the Rukas Rake nor does it seem to have the power going forward. But I can see when you grade with the bucket forward, a backwards drag with that rake (where it seems to perform best) could speed things up a bit on a prettier final product. It also seems to reveal the low spots much better also.
I was gonna ask if that bucketrake would sort of recondition the top of an old, well packed gravel drive to prep for a layer of new gravel. The last 5 minutes sort of answers the question. Can't wait to see it on a long neglected driveway with potholes and such.
As the power rake is under the bucket, it seems you can't watch what it is doing whereas you can with the Ruckus Rake. Larger roots and such has less ability to clear the power rake. All in one has great stone advantages as you say.
Love that they inscribed your name into the bucket, awesome.. worked really well on your drive where your trailers are parked.. l;ookjs like you just laid all that stone down, after running over it all a few time with that new bucket. SWEET!
I watched a show about an Alaska Airport that uses a special machine that breaks up ice on the runways. It is similar to the rake on the Hydra Bucket, but way bigger. If you ever get ice or snow, you have the answer!
Glad to see your trying to get production with that New Hydra Bucket and if you can change that rake for a different rake with deeper or shorter teeth.
Chris, Congratulation to the new Hydra Bucket. You testing the new Supplement on the Farm this is not Testing, You to show Perfect to Work. Beside to rule You the Publicity in great Circumference!!! The Picture from Your Farm to impress.. You the 100 % Men. 👌
Chris, is there a risk that if you raise the bucket while the rake it still spinning, that it could fire debris back at you? I don't know what way it spins. If it is switched electrically, they should be able to work out an interlock that switches the rake off when the boom is raised.
It's bidirectional, and momentary unless you use your machine's lock-on feature, so you can easily let off the controls when lifting the boom-- we always want to prioritize safety 👍
I didn’t notice the Chevron pattern on the gravel however on the soil it gave a good indication of low spots with in the bucket depth length ,I was wondering how visible it was from the operators point of view give it a go .look like it could be a time saver in the right application.
It looks like a good compromise for a landscaper who can’t justify a Ruckus Rake and transporting two tool to smaller jobs. I am curious if the rake is in contact with the ground when the bucket is in the flat grading position.
I think Chris just got a new toy to use on his driveway/road projects... That left the gravel looking sweet.. for the dirt... Ok.. but the rukus I think does just a tad better.. but the driveway... both smoothing with the bucket and raking on the back drag... looks really good.
There’s no ability to angle the blade as well. Angling the ruckusallow you to move a lot of dirt around to level out the project and get the debris to one side or the other. They will be distinctly useful. It will be interesting to see which one Chris will use more. Using the ruckus to repurpose gravel driveways was a very large part of the initial advertising on its inception. If you are using a packer as the final part of your gravel restoration work, the bucket part may likely be unnecessary. Time will tell!
I live in NYC and we get bad winters . I bet this thing would be great at breaking up thick ice in parking lots and driveways . Then the bucket can scrap up the bits .
At first I thought the rocks in the dirt were causing it to bind up, but after see it work the gravel driveway I think it was just the combo of the weeds AND rocks clumping and causing the binding. Still, next models might make the gap around the rotor a bit bigger to reduce that.
@@franklinforrest8464 We like the pattern too-- stone/crushed granite/gravel drives are its bread and butter. As long as you keep it greased, it'll last as long as your general purpose bucket.
That is an impressive job on the stone . Looks like a versatile gadget . It may not fully replace the ruckus , but it sure could add functionality and simplicity to some jobs .
Definitely a good tool to have if you need to refresh a driveway or road, but it's not bad enough to require the grader. Made your driveway look like it was freshly installed again.
Wow that did great on the gravel drive very impressive!! Watch now Dirt Perfect will have Aron build him one as a winter project after Mike scrounges up some parts 🤣🤣🤣
I think a normal bucket with a side tilt function would have more functions this looks like it would work better if it was fold down power rake in front of the bucket to throw stones and roots into the bucket
It looks like a cool attachment that does a good job. I sure hope it has a safety device that prevents the rake from spinning and throwing a rock into your face when lifted up above the deck.
Man, That Hydra leaves one of the coolest patterns in the soil I've seen!! Nice...
Hydra bucket works great. Will be functional to use on finishing up projects! Good for u. God's blessings and be safe!
This is becoming an unboxing channel with all these new attachments and pieces of equipment coming in
I liked the unboxing the D7 video. 😆
It’s more like up grading. Cool new stuff. Nothing work with that😊

Cool attachment! I enjoy the finishing work.
Wow, that did a number on the rock... Way better than anything other than adding more rock!!
As soon as I saw that in operation, Bealy Good’ mulch spreading came to mind and slicken up paddocks and drive way fluffing, this is, in my humble opinion anyway, going to be a very handy attachment, thanks for the update sir.

Nice tool! That would be really handy to rehabilitate an old gravel road before adding more stone. Pretty amazing results and it didn't look to be too dusty.
Great ! more tools to use on more jobs. That does make an old driveway new again. That wider bucket should help with your snowfall clearing contracts.
The way it puts the lines is awesome for seeds
The way it leaves the ridges is perfect seed depth, broadcasted seed and back drag with bucket, done!😊😊
Very nice attachment, Chris, great for dressing up and laying down some seed. After watching you for 6+ years I've come to believe the skid steer is your favorite to operate.
Excavator is a favorite as well
@@glennspreeman1634 Agreed, but the use of the skid steer to do the final dress-up signifies another project completed.

Definitely good for loose material, new driveways, mulch, etc. Ruckus rake better suited for harder ground and roots.
Hey Chris !!! WOW !!!! That gives you the opinion of cleaning up stones & Roots B/4 the rake hits them & NO flat tires like the ""Ruckus " Rake !! What a time saver & Fuel saver that will be !!! 🙂🙃😉😊👍👍👍👍👍
The Rukus Rake is 10 times more effective. Hands down.
I like it. The refresh of the gravel area certainly went very well using that bucket. I still feel like the Ruckus Rake is the better attachment overall, but this does seem to have a place and application.
Yes I agree with you that the ruckus rake is a better rake.
If you want a rake then go get a rake
It should be a great bucket for laying old or new stone.
This rake doesn't have the fingers like the Ruckus and you could see it had some trouble with grass and larger rocks but i agree it did a heck of a job on gravel.

I think that was an awesome addition to finishing a project, and outstanding on stone !!!
It does leave a nice pattern of raised mini furrows for planting seed.
rake and finish at the same time. that stripe finish is perfect
Wow! Your New Bucket Works Great!
Hi Chris could you do an update on the 2 pond dams you did with the 550
The pattern or lack of pattern in dirt makes it easy to spot even slight dips in elevation. Nice
In weaving you'd call it a twill.
I’ve sewn long enough that I spent a certain amount of time thinking about matching the lines at the “seams” / overlaps. The diagnostic use of pattern variation is probably more useful. The bucket did a nice job on the driveway.

Seems like a good idea but I don't think it'll handle uneven or compacted soil like the ruckus rake.....not to mention sticks etc.
Though the drawback of the Ruckus rake is transporting and setup. For a quick job, this is fairly versatile.
Yes, yo are right, it is cute but not very effective. Really limp.
Chris, I know you don't have the problem down there, but how would that rake work on like a parking lot with 2 -3" of ice? For busting the ice up!
i would be worried about scratching the tarmac.
It would surely provide traction to go up hill or down . . . 🙂
The herringbone pattern it leaves in the dirt looks great. Does it do as good a job as the Ruckus Rake?

As always, impressive ! Might need some hearing protection though. Sounds like it might be a little nosy in the cab.
fascinating pattern - speed over ground / mathematical pattern on the rake drum / speed of rotation = pretty patterns
