I used to work at a place in North Adams Massachusetts called Delftree Shiitake mushroom farm we actually made logs from sawdust mixed with mycelium put in a plastic bag with perforation until the logs turn white and start growing mycelium then you peel off the bags put them on wire racks and wait for the flush to happen

Thanks so much for this video. I inoculated a mushroom log about 18 months ago. I forgot about it. Today while harvesting my sweet potatoes I saw my log covered with mushrooms. I never ate mushrooms before so I needed this to help me. Thanks

Hi thanks for your video how many times did you harvest from one log ? What season do you harvest ? is it going to propagate more by itself without replanting ?

you can harvest for nearly 8 years, I check the logs after a rain when the temperature will drop--- that triggers the mushroom bloom.

Thank you so much. I know less than nothing about growing mushrooms and I'm terrified of eating wild mushrooms BUT I haven't met a mushroom yet that I didn't love. You gave me courage to try growing these wonderful edibles. They are getting so expensive in the stores and markets so if I can learn (which I can) then I can grow my own. Thanks again Mr. Porta. ~Sherrie in South Carolina

Your video and instructions are excellent. I can tell you cook the right way too. With butter and olive oil with mushrooms kinins and garlic. Great instructions. I really enjoyed learning. I wish more people would watch and learn. Thank you for taking the time to teach us!
I love shiitake! And love how you teach how to clean cook and preserve everything including the stems. The leftover can flavor rice and dehydrated potatoes.

Really learned a lot from this video, you explain things so well. Although I have never eaten this type of mushroom I found myself thinking this would be a great adventure for my granddaughter and me to work on together. There are several kinds of wild mushrooms growing here but I've never picked any. Had the most beautiful huge one last spring come out that looked similar to what I might expect a cabbage to look like if it were to gently open it leaves outward. At the time I was recovering from a knee replacement so I couldn't get to it but was able to take a picture from truck seat. I hope it will be back again. Thank you for your time and how to cook.

I recently tried boiling some mushrooms before sauteing them. They absorbed less oil, and even had better (more mushroomy) flavor.
    I used button and shitake.

Grolsch beer bottles are over taking your kitchen. Those mushrooms look tasty.
