100 year old ignition coil for the win!! I think that was part of the magneto system they used back then. Lasted way longer than the newer stuff that was on there.

I hear that Bill! I don’t think anything built in the last 30 years will last anywhere near a century, especially in the automotive world. Things are abysmal!

The fact that you have that coil made me laugh. Like you, I appreciate old technology. In part because I understand it and also, it works. I sold my 2005 Corvette and bought a 1968 Cadillac. I basically gave up a perfectly good car for one that needs tons of work. I question my decision sometimes but the Cadillac is much more interesting and fun to drive. Plus I understand it. Good to see you again Smitty.

I would’ve made that trade in a second! I love the older Cadillacs. They are beautiful! And I love simplicity (relative) so it’s right up my alley. I’ve been daily driving that Cummins -powered ‘93 W250 after selling my 07 Silverado. It’s a bit less comfortable & doesn’t handle as well, but I will gladly trade that for the lack of headaches! This thing is getting pounded and abused on Massachusetts roads and I haven’t had anything but minor electrical problems so far -everything was easily fixed with no parts needed. Can’t say the same about that Silverado! Good to see you too, Wyatt! Appreciate the comment as always.👍

Hey Dave! Sorry I didn't see your comment AGAIN! UA-cam is a PITA!
Anyway ... yeah, the car ain't too bad. I definitely paid too much for it, but the stuff that counts is solid. Some minor rust in the fenders, but those can be replaced fairly cheap. Last thing I wanted was to take on another project, but that's what ended up happening. Had to fix leaking axle seals, sloppy shifting, worn out wiper linkage bushings, secure LOTS of loose wiring, change the fuel filter that was installed BACKWARDS (and marked "IN" with magic marker at the WRONG end!!), change the front wheel bearings and seals, change the door handles and ignition so they all used the same key, extended a fuel tank vent to keep fumes out of the cab, and other neglected / Mickey Moused things. Changed the fluids to Amsoil, gave her a valve adjustment, and installed Neoprene seals to stop a majority of the oil leaks. Previous owner did the clutch, brakes, and brake hoses recently.
Not what I had expected given what I paid ... but at least I was able to do it over a few months. Still isn't finished yet - still have outer tie rod ends to change (why they didn't when they did the inners is beyond me!), and now a set of tires since the alignment was so far out of whack. We burned up a pair of front tires in less than 1k miles! Once I throw a set of Bilstein shocks in there (and fix the no-spark issue), she'll finally be finished and we can enjoy it next season. Will have to figure out some kind of adapter for my balancer. $$$!!
I agree with your assessment of modern vehicles! That's why my newest car right now is a 1994 model. :)

Don't get the Mallorey Unilight. Use a stock distributor with a Pertronix module.

Thanks for the info! My neighbor just came by with one, so I'll check out that option. I appreciate it!
