    Thank you Doctor, quite a clarifying video. I will watch the standard pathway next. If I may ask: I am a med student looking for clinical electives in Australia, and hope to get it to the end of the year. Should I wait for this pandemia to pass, or already begin to apply for positions?

    I've been watching a couple of your videos and i do find them to be very helpful and informative.If you don't mind,could you explain a bit further on the standard pathway and on how to obtain a provisional registration.I passed my AMC CAT part 1 but was told to secure a job offer first before approaching APHRA.p.s i'm an IMG from Malaysia.Thanks again,cheers.

      Hi nava nethan this is a very good question. Whether you have AMC Part 1 or Part 2 you do need to secure an appropriate job offer before being able to apply for provisional registration.

    Thank you very much for your informative video! So I graduated from medical school in Switzerland and I'm planning to do my residency in Australia.
    Do you think completing the PLAB 1 and 2 and working in the UK for one year (going by the competent pathway essentially) would make it easier for me and take up less time to get registered as a doctor in Australia? Or do you think it would be more efficient to complete the AMC and apply by the standard pathway directly without having any work experience in either Switzerland or the UK?
    I heard that as an IMG it is quite difficult to find a job in Australia when going by the standard pathway so I would love your insight on this topic.

    • @CareerDoctor
      @CareerDoctor  3 роки тому +1

      Whether to do PLAB or AMC is a hot topic. Generally I advise the direct route. But others have a differing opinion. With CA you will probably find obtaining a job easier.

    Thank you very much. I have a "partially comparable" assessment by a specialty college. However, this wasn't enough for AHPRA registration. AHPRA wants also a job offer, While all jobs require AHPRA registration as well. Anyway out of this dilemma?

    • @CareerDoctor
      @CareerDoctor  6 років тому

      Hi Ahmed thanks for the question. AHPRA requires that you have a post regardless of which pathway you come through. The first registration is either limited or provisional and requires a supervision plan. There is no way around this.

Given that the RACGP recognises (and does not recognise) a handful of international qualification you would think that they would recognise something that they have directly been involved with. This document from the Malaysian version appears to support this - cc832419-3429-4ef3-a0bc-f5f088dc506d.filesusr.com/ugd/f588ec_f345539ee2e848a681dd1ba2d569831a.pdf You would probably have to speak with them directly.

    • @byebirdn
      @byebirdn 4 роки тому

      If you are an IMG graduated other than an English speaking country do not even try to register. THINK 20 TIMES.
      FIRST OF ALL PASSING RATE IN IELTS OR OET IS VERY LOW AND EXTREMELY HARD. YOU WILL SPEND AROUND BETWEEN 2 TO 4 K ON THESE TESTS.
      AFTER PASSING IELTS OR OET , YOU WILL BE RIPPED OFF BY AMC. PASSING AMC MCQ AND CLINICAL EXAM IS NOT THE MAIN ISSUE HERE. YOU PASS MCQ EASYLY ( 20-30 % PASS RATE) THEN CLINICAL EXAM PASSING RATE IS LESS THEN 10 %
      AFTER PASSING CLINICAL EXAM, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO DO 12 MONTHS SUPERVISED PRACTICE. IN THIS 12 MONTHS YOU WILL BE DISCRIMINATED AND ENCOUNTER EVERY BAD THINK YOU CAN NOT EVEN IMAGINE FROM RACIST REGISTRARS AND FROM RACIST SYSTEM. ABOUT 90 PERCENT OF LIMITED REGISTERED DOCTORS ARE TAKEN FROM THE DOCTOR REGISTER AND THEY WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO REGISTER AGAIN.
      THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY, THEY WILL TAKE YOUR CARIER AND MOST IMPORTANTLY YOUR YEARS AWAY FROM YOU. YOU WILL BE LEFT WITOUT MONEY AND HOPELESS.
      A FRIENDLY ADVICE DO NOT TRY TO REGISTER IN AUSTRALIA, YOU WILL REGRET IT .
      REGARDS
      I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU SHOULD READ THE REPORT SUBMITTED TO AUSTRALIAN PARLIMENT BELOW

    What exactly do you mean by "the board has recognised certain international authorities as competent in their assessment of doctors for med registration" ?
    Like for example how easy does it become for me to get AMC registration/ certificate, if I were to apply through standard pathway plus if I have a GMC registration?
    Or.. do I become eligible for competent authority pathway if I have work experience in the UK?

    • @CareerDoctor

      The choice of the term "competent" is really unfortunate as it suggests every other country is "incompetent" and the Medical Board hasn't really provided any justification for this decision other than the fact that it is based on the historical approach when we had State and Territory Medical Boards.

      Hi Araz I can mainly speak from experience of my own specialty of Psychiatry that I know of many specialists who have come through the pathway from outside of the UK and North America. They have generally been deemed partially comparable via the College and been required to undertake some further assessment whilst here.
      For specialists I have seen the process take anywhere from 6-months to over two years.

    Hello
    Thanks a lot for your helping.
    I want to ask you..
    I am a Syrian orthopedic resident and my wife is ENT resident. Beacause of a brtual war in our country Syria we could not complete our training programs to be specialists.
    We have passed OET exam. We also have a good experience and a good CV.
    We have been started preparing to AMC1 exam,but someone told us that Australian pathway is so difficult and you may not find a job or the chance is low to start again ortho or ENT even in DWS areas!!
    And the UK pathway is much easier...
    Can you help us to make a decision?

    • @CareerDoctor
      @CareerDoctor  5 років тому +1

      +omar alhiraki thanks for your question. I don’t have a lot of information to compare the UK with Aus. Others might share an opinion. Getting into surgical training is extremely difficult even for Australian doctors. But again this is a common situation around the world. Stay safe and all the best.

      @CareerDoctor  6 років тому

      Hi Muhammad it depends on your situation. In some cases you might be going into a resident level job, in other cases perhaps a specialty training role. Let's just say you get approved for a resident level job with not recognition of prior training. Then you obviously have the 12 months provisional registration first, at the end of which you can apply for general registration and be looking at entry into specialty training. Most specialty training programs are a minimum of 5 years. So that's a minimum total of 6 years if everything falls into place perfectly.

    • @MuhammadAamir1
      @MuhammadAamir1 6 років тому

      Hi Ana you need to successfully complete the FY1 or something equivalent in UK plus complete the PLAB. Once the AMC is satisfied with this step they permit you to register for and apply for the Part 1 exam. More info about applying here - www.amc.org.au/assessment/mcq-exam/mcq-apply. The AMC website is very helpful and has information about exam dates and centres as well.

      There are lots of bad stories about IMGs being badly treated. But also some very good stories. Not all places in Australia have racist cultures. And most Australians are not racist. I think you highlight one important thing that is overlooked by IMGs. Its generally not about the OET and the AMC exams. Its often about whether you are able to secure employment.
