Chilly Waterhole Swims with the Jabulani Elephant Herd 🐘💦

- A chilly wind made an unexpected appearance today, reminding us of the winter season. Not all of the elephants are interested in taking a swim in the waterhole. Somopane and Fishan remain on dry land, while Jabulani and Tokwe take a quick dip before heading back to the bush to forage. Setombe and Khanyisa stay close to Phabeni, and are extra vigilant with him near the water. Pisa sits contentedly in the middle of the waterhole, soon joined by Sebakwe and Zindoga. The elephants will continue to visit the waterholes throughout winter, but whether they swim or not depends on each individual's preferences and personality.

Good morning everyone 🌻☀️ (or evening) a video with my most favorite elephant herd is the best way to start my day I love seeing all of them head straight for the water 💦 one of their simple favorite joys. Jabu incoming he’s such a handsome boy absolutely love him. Time with the Jabulani herd soothes my soul and puts a smile on my face thank you for sharing your amazing moments with all of us. Sweet Pisa loves to lead her herd! Limpopo making sure she does it right! LOL Surprised to see baby Beni out so late..perhaps he got a late start? Setombe's acceptance of Khanyisa is so nice to see...and baby K forming a deep bond to her baby brother is beyond beautiful!! Tokwe and Bubi never too far from Fishan! So reassuring to know Fish is getting his much needed meds!!!! A sizeable group forming around Beni in protection, and Zindoga elated because he gets Pisa to himself without Mambo! My heart goes out to Fishan. He loves to get in the water when it’s warm but a chill would probably make him feel worse. I know you’re helping him all that you can.
Since Fishan broke his leg you can almost see his limp changing
like the weather. If the Ellie is like us, arthritis usually sets in after a bad break. Hope his medication will help relieve his discomfort soon.

It’s kind of funny to see all the smaller animals make way for the elephants. It’s as if the smaller animals are the little kids at the pool and the ellies are the teenagers arriving to take over. 😂

Watching this from a tropical country, the sound of the wind and the splashing of the water in the dam somehow makes me fill the chill as well. We are just about to enter our rainy season, but there are still times when it's so hot and humid, so thank you for sharing your lovely weather(an opinion from someone who experienced the worst of El Niño). May you all keep warm and cozy, especially Baby Phabeni. Thank you for this beautiful video today. I just want to mention that I am happy Bubi seems to be accepting Tokwe's company here, and I feel bad for Fishan for suffering from pain during the cold weather. Thank you so much for doing everything for all these beautiful ellies. And Baby Phabeni is so loved by his mama, allomothers, and sisters, and he equally loves them in return. Pisa does look adorable sitting in the middle of the waterhole, and Timisa being a little celebrity surrounded by her bull elephant bodyguards.😂 Thank you again, Adine and HERD. Meisiekind is adorable watching over Phabeni like that. Cutie pie Pisa most definitely is a tomboy. She prefers being with the bulls, as does Timi quite often. I kinda miss seeing Setombe nuzzling up to her daughter Klaserie, but at least they are together in the Homestead. I often wonder what Lundi and Tokwe are thinking about? They are so unassuming yet so confident. I believe that they are all knowing.....

Hello from Florida. It's very interesting to see which elephants 🐘 go for a dip and others stay in dry land. Sebakwe 🐘 always loves the water 💦. It was very cute seeing Pisa 🐘 sitting on her bum in the dam. So nice to see how Khaynisa 🐘 has stepped up as a big sister and watches over Phabeni 🐘 near the waters edge. I feel bad for Fishan 🐘 in the winter as the cold bothers his leg. I am happy to hear that you all are giving him antiinflammatories to help him cope with his discomfort. I did witness many marvelous things historically...but when i think back ...one of my most vivid memories was of the lone elephant at the Jacksonville Fl zoo. Makes me weep to this day. Khaneyisa and Phabeni are so very well taken care of by their herd! I always enjoy seeing our little Pink girl Khaneyisa. I always know it's her when she moves her ears🤭 I see a little bit of pink behind her ears❤
It is always nice to see the Ellies enjoying themselves at the Dam The sisters Limpopo and Pisa leading their Herd the rest of them spreading around the Dam Pisa looking like a Hindu Goddess sitting in the water then completely submerged and Gentleman Fishan whose Osteoarthritis makes im suffer de ided to stay on the banks for once Khanyisa close to Phabeni couldn't submerged herself as usual due to the little Bull ho is watched carefully by Dame Setombe and the other cows

Would have liked to have seen Phabeni up close, but seeing Bubi, Sebakwe and FishtheMan made up for it.

Does this suggest that Phabeni is gradually able to stay out longer with the herd now?
Phabeni is monitored while out on the walks and if deemed necessary, he will be returned to the orphanage, to ensure that his energy is conserved.
Hi Adine, Have you thought about treating Fishan with cold laser and red light to help with inflammation and pain? it works great from humans to horses and many more.

Hello, yes, we have investigated this form of treatment, it however is very expensive and we would require a special handheld device as we cannot have Fishan near the machine. When we notice that he is stiffer or in discomfort, which is mostly in the colder winter months, we give him painkillers and anti-inflammatory medication. When Fishan was rehabilitating, in 2018 we treated him with hydrotherapy to assist with the healing of his legs. He is also discouraged from walking long distances.
