'Different world': Australia-China relationship 'more complex' now

Former Australian Ambassador to China Geoff Raby says the Australia-China relationship is “more complex” than it was in his day.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang is in Canberra today as he continues his tour around Australia.
“We can’t expect those halcyon days of the relationship to return,” Mr Raby said.
“It’s quite normal for countries to have differences and I think that the point that needs to be made.
“In the seven years since the last high-level visit like this, China has continued to grow massively … so it’s a very different world and it’s very much a more complex relationship to manage than in my day.”

To normalize relationships with Australia 🇦🇺, China needs to take the following first steps:
- release remaining arbitrarily detained Australian citizens,
- cooperate with WHO to study further into the Wuhan outbreak,
- lift import restrictions on Australian wine, lobsters and beef,
- respect international laws in the South and East China Sea,
- fix its human rights issues in Xinjiang, Tibet, and Hong Kong,
- stop interfering with Taiwan's internal affairs.

The WHO commented the following about China and the source of covid - WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing and commended the country's efforts to control the outbreak. He also praised the Communist Party's top leadership for its "openness to sharing information" about the virus and its spread, even though Chinese officials in Wuhan - where COVID-19 cases first emerged - were cracking down on people for "spreading rumors" about the disease.....
