Robbie Basho - Moving Up A' Ways

- '"Moving Up A'Ways" was inspired by the Dream-Myth "Sing" of the Navahos, depicting the spiritual and physical evolution from lower to higher forms of life. With this in mind, I wrote this contemporary song.' (Robbie Basho's sleeve notes).
From his 1981 album, "Rainbow Thunder" requested by dpg25, check out the harmonics at the start!
This song cured my hiccups
I studied and performed with Robbie back in the late 1960's and early 1970's. It is great to see a resurgence of interest in his music. I have been hoping for 40 years that more guitarists would take advantage of the freedom offered by his style of playing. I recently recorded for the first time myself, one cut on "Beyond Berkeley Guitar" on the Tompkins Square label; the only cut with an obvious connection to Basho's style: "A dream of distant summer"
Basho is a genius I also play guitar
I am Japanese
What was Basho like in person? Must have been a trip to see him practice his tunes live!
Did you see him in Berkeley at New Dimensions in the early 80's? I was there!
Thank you for the story. Basho is such an enigma to me...so inspiring.
How did you return to playing 20 years after your left hand problem?
I hope I meet some fellow Basho fans over yonder ❤️❤️❤️
I am Japanese and I translate it on Google
Robbie Basho is a great singer
I have a record Moving up I'm nervous.
However, it is totally unknown in Japan. John Jacob Niles is also great. But it is still unknown in Japan. It is a great singer, so I want you to become famous in Japan.
Thank you for the great video
This makes my heart sad, and I don't know why. It's so pleasant. Maybe I'm just a sad person.
He brought so many musical and cultural forms to our attention. He also took the name Basho out of respect to Matsuo Basho.
I would really like to hear your record. Where can I find it. Best Wishes.
Watashi wa hōgaku o kiku amerikahitodesu. Tomodachi ni wa ninki ga arimasen. Watashi wa anata no tachiba ni dōjō shimasu.
I'm American who listens to Japanese music. It is not popular with my friends. I sympathize with your position.
Watashi mo gūguru o tsukaimashita. Erā ga hassei shite sumimasen.
I also used Google translate. Forgive any errors.
This guy’s voice is stunning..
Other worldly...
@@zatoichimasseur6767 it really is...I never heard anyone play the guitar so naturally before either. He’s a unique talent..
he was reaching far into the depths of the void...
into the spiritual realm..
A bit of Basho revitalises my whole world! Had a really persistent stress headache that he just melted with his transcendent warbling. Praise be!
Thank you to the guitar master Robbie Basho for sharing his wonderful (yes, very transportive) music with myself and others. This is one of the best songs I have ever been blessed to hear. :)
Completely different song than on Voice of the Eagle. This is like him taking 10 years to color it in carefully to the edges like it was in a picture book
So true... And both are every bit just as dam good.
well i'll gladly share more of this incredible human being, just ask if there is anything else you fancy
anything you got please
What a transportive song! I normally listen to synth-based music but I come from a guitar background and I feel like Robbie Basho returned to me something I molted long ago. The guitar would be enough, but his voice is also incredible!
Yeah I was producing electronic music for like... the better part of a decade and this stuff woke up something in my 10 year old learning to play acoustic guitar self that's leading to much more fulfilling writing
WOULD I BE IMPOSING IF I REQUESTED UPLOADING "A NORTH AMERICAN RAGA". SURE WOULD APPRECIATE IT.
"WAAY YOH WAAY YOH HEYY AWAHEYY AWAHEYY...WAYYYEYY HAAI HAAI YOHH...WAAY YOH WAAY YOH HEYY AWAHEYY AWAHEYY...WAAAAAYYYY HAAAI HAAAAII HOOOOOoooo........."
"WAAY YOH WAAY YOH HEYY AWAHEYY AWAHEYY...WAYYYEYY HAAI HAAI YOHH...WAAY YOH WAAY YOH HEYY AWAHEYY AWAHEYY...WAAAAAYYYY HAAAI HAAAAII HOOOOOoooo........."
haha
Thanks you for posting this. It is actually from Robbie Basho's recording, Voice of the Eagle.
No, it’s not. This is the second version.
@mrw93439 actually, he re-recorded it in 1981 for "Rainbow Thunder."
amazing guitar work..... would love tabs
❤
Thanks for uploading this so fast!
Your a star!
Kind regards, Daniel.

PLEASE, DON'T DISRESPECT THE NATIVES. THE CORRECT SPELLING OF THEIR TRIBE IS NAVAJO.
The Great Ventro Troy Ness please don’t disrespect the Natives by writing your comment in English....write it in Navajo...
@@i_t_f_e___proems crazy to see a racist on a robbie Basho video, pathetic and misguided
@@pebystroll Re-evaluate your definition of racism
@@jzonkel what are you talking about man, its white supremacist shit
I would think it would be more legitimately disrespectful if it was intentional. Some people have trouble with spelling or god bless them, just make mistakes. Try not to spring to extreme accusations, especially while Basho is playing
