had a few peeps questioning my use of the word "indie" to describe the first LiS game - by modern standards, LiS is far from an indie game - it's an established IP with significant online presence, nominations for awards, and millions of sales. back in 2015, when DONTNOD was a very small company, the game was extremely unorthodox and off-trend, this game was very indie-esque, if not indie. even though they did manage to secure a deal to publish their game with Square Enix, Life is Strange was a pretty nothing game back then. one of the reasons the game blew up in popularity was not through huge marketing campaigns, but through letsplayers playing it - perhaps it's not indie by raw technicality, but i would not describe Life is Strange (2015) as a major/AAA game :)
@@CucuOnGames I think Don't Nod was initially an indie company with small resources. However, they struck gold with LIS and then became renowned and acclaimed. They aren't an indie company anymore. Their new game Lost Records seems promising. Larian Studios was an indie kind of company originally with their Divinity games. They had small resources and were on the verge of bankruptcy after every game. However, with DOS and even more do DOS 2 they got a lot of recognition. So they got AAA level resources for making BG3. BG3 became a mega hit and now Larian Studios are like the Bioware 20 years ago. It's one of the most appraised gaming companies at the moment. We can hope Don't Nod and Deck Nine can get similar success. They found a game niche with a lot of potential. It's so refreshing playing games where combat isn't present at all. Instead you're invited on an emotional journey. That's probably why LIS is so popular among female gamers.
I can't believe people are disputing you calling the original life is strange independent or not. They most certainly were! Like you said, the game barely had any marketing but it got huge after it was announced at E3 if I remember correctly. It was a word of mouth game and part of its popularity was because of its affordability and TV show release schedule. It's one of the few games released after the year 2010 that I still like to play once every couple of years.
Yeah we get it. Some games start indie and then are bought by a company and stop being indie. One example is Plant vs Zombies. What I think is that maybe some people could think that the game started as a high gross proposal by companies because they started to play the games later.
You are correct, but I wonder what people thought it was going to be if that comes as a surprise. I am genuinely asking. Max went through hell in Life is Strange. She watched her best friend die multiple times over, sometimes by her own hand. Her friend tried to and possibly did kill herself. She was constantly in mortal danger, she was kidnapped and almost killed by a serial killer. She watched people she knew and cared about die all around her as her childhood hometown was torn to shreds and this is not to even mention the psychosexual crisis she had in the dreamscape of Chapter 5. What else would Max's return ever be if not her dealing with the trauma of that? How could she look at Chloe the same way ever again after she either let thousands die because of her, or how could she live in Arcadia after her best friend got murdered and she was exposed to everyone's worst selves? There is no version of the story where she and Chloe could ever be happily together. Life is Strange may not be realistic, but for the story and the narrative to work, they have to reflect reality in some way.
@@jacksonianianI actually have high expectations for deck nine and how they are gonna talk about past trauma in double exposure because I think they've been good in this subject before. I played before the storm at a point of my life when I was having trouble dealing with past trauma and I have been very touched by the way they pictured Chloe trying to deal with hers in the game
I’m going in with an open mind, but I can’t lie and say that I’m not skeptical about this game. I just don’t know if DeckNine will be able to recapture the magic that made DontNod’s Lis games so special. Especially since they’re using their characters and basically doing the same exact story.
the rest of the story awaits to be seen - but from what I played, i was impressed. i don't think it has the same magic as 1 or 2, but it's got a lot of charm to it :)
@@CucuOnGames maybe. I just wish they did something different. It’s the same murder mystery story that we’ve played damn near every Lis game. The only game in the franchise that actually does something different is Lis 2.
Having replayed all the games recently, I can say one of the best things this franchise does is the choices and consequences system. They always do an incredible job with the settings/art direction and soundtrack. These games have always explored moral grey areas and fascinating social topics, but ultimately these games are only meant to be replayed once or twice to access all the content. I have faith in Deck Nine. As much as I disliked Alex's empathy power in True Colors and Chloe's back talk ability, the story kept me invested. at first when I saw the gameplay of switching between timelines I thought this game looked like the medium, and I was highly skeptical. But it seems like with Hannah, the writing isn't as forced as much. I know a lot of cutscenes can be cliche and corny but that's the charm of the game, but yea... fingers crossed that they can match or exceed the quality of the first game. Based on what I've seen so far, at least we know the graphics, lip syncing and facial animations are way better. We know the setting and art style are gonna be dope just like the soundtrack. The writing has come such a far way from the first game "you are going to get in hella more trouble" lmao. The highlight of every life is strange game are the decisions you are forced to make and how your decisions ultimately affect the plot. You're never going to have a better time playing this game than on your first playthrough, before you know how every decision plays out. Enjoy the shit out of that first playthrough and just soak it in.

When I played the first game both my best friend and I were just about to start university, my best friend loved the game so much that she even cosplayed as max. Sadly my best friend passed away 2 years ago and seeing this new game focus back on Max makes me want to play it especially since its an older max who im assuming is around my age (mid to late 20s)
I feel like if you get texts from Joyce ... that if you play in the save Chloe timeline you'll get texts from Chloe instead... because if you save Chloe, Joyce dies in the storm
Hey so like imma photographer, studied it in school and everything, i just wanna say the double exposure title is VERY interesting because basically double exposure is overlapping two or more images (normally of the same place) but at different points in time or even just a few seconds difference then lower the layers exposure so it becomes almost ghostly. So probs represents all of them coming together as one, some parts are shadowy, blurry but u can see it all
I dont get why people cry about Max look she is 10 freaking years older of course she dosent look like a teeny anymore, she looks like an adult and gorgeous, i never had a bad time with any LiS games so i will definetly get this. If ur skeptical stop crying and wait for the reviews after release
In my opinion, I think that the problem is not the fact that Max is grown, it's the way they changed the original Life is Strange style that looked like it was kind of a painting to just another 3D game. The original style made it feel unique, this one makes it feel the same as other games, making it lose its essence
It’s the way they handled max as a character and I don’t feel connected to her at all. Plus if Chloe’s a no show then this makes it even worse imo (like she’s only gonna be viewed in texts, what’s the reason for her coming to visit max?). They could’ve made a sequel to the original lis where we see what happened after the tornado crashed into the bay. This is probably going to be a soft or hard reboot to the series and tbh I’m more optimistic about lost records. This is likely gonna be a boring cash grab imo

But Lost Records reminds me so much of the original LiS vibes, and that's why I'm more hyped for it than I am for the new LiS, hoping that it's true and Lost Records make original LiS justice
I think the thing to remember is that Max was like extremly thin at 18. It make sense that as she turned from teen to adult that her body structure caught up a bit. I think it doesnt help that her face is face bit wider, but it just sorta happen to people as they grow up
Thank you so much! I'm actually super interested and happy to hear that they're delving deep into Max's trauma. I'm happy she's actually turned out as well as she has considering the horrible experience she went through and she's grown much more of a backbone due to her friendship with Chloe and all the shenanigans she went through; but I'm even more happier that Arcadia Bay is still somewhere inside her and she hasn't figured out what to do with it. I personally will choose the Chloe Survives route in my first playthrough simply because I think it will lead to much juicier content. I just hope Chloe and her haven't broken up or something that would make the player feel like sacrificing the town wasn't worth it haha. Lastly is KATE!! gosh, I hope we see our girl again and that she and Max have been keeping in touch!!
I’m personally happy that Max is back, I love this character so much. In life is strange, she’s the only character I can relate the most I feel more connected
Personally I think they did an excellent job with recreating Max as an adult. She actually does look like Max and what she could look like as an adult. Was a bit down on it at first but the more i see her the more i see teen Max in her.
I think she looks a lot more like Max from the remastered edition, which is DeckNine's "vision" of how they see Max, I guess - I think she does look like her! Plus, she's nearly 30, and has a different hairstyle, of course she's going to look a little bit different
Shout out to life is strange for not feeling the need to explain how these ordinary people continue to get these extraordinary abilities. It keeps the ideas of these powers fresh and unpredictable due to the wielder. Every franchise always ruins the magic when they over explain the origins but i got to hand it to them for keepin it vague
i've always really liked the series for using the powers as a vessel for character growth and plot movement, and never really explaining how they worked. the "why" isn't important, it's what the character does with them :)

Many are talking about Chloe, but what about Warren Graham? There is literally not a single clue about him, whether Max and Warren can be a couple in Double Exposure or if they are still good friends like they were in school. I am really curious to know what has become of his life considering he was relatively smart in chemistry, maybe he is a teacher now or a scientist, I hope they bring Warren back.
@@hyukarismo I'd also like to see Kate, she's the perfect example of resilience, so I'd like to know how she was able to cope with the trauma generated by the Vortex party now that 10 years have passed, I'm sure she's much stronger and has overcome it, and maybe she's a very close friend of Max. I hope she shows up.
i didn’t think about this but you’re right, he’s a love interest in the first game and therefore maxs canon partner to some players, so it would be disappointing if he wasn’t back because he’s an optional interest in the first game
I mean, it depends on the ending you chose in the first game, if you saved Chloe, Warren is dead and will not be in Double Exposure. But if you sacrificed Chloe, there's a chance he could appear.
is there probably gonna be any closure on Sean and Daniel as in like a small easter egg or something, I really hope we do recieve something like that when the game releases.
Idk I felt like they where resolved well imo in my game Sean goes to Mexico and meets up with cass and live happily ever after and Daniel grows up and keeps contact with Sean maybe one day they meet again.
Yeah that ending was good but the ending I got and what I liked the most was when they both go to Mexico and grow up together, it's clearly implied throughout the story that they both need one another to keep on pushing forward and them reaching that goal ( Puerto lobos) feels like the best ending for me
If LiS 2 is referenced I don’t think the endings will be. It’s enough of a challenge to respect the two endings from LiS 1, let alone the four from LiS 2. But maybe there would be a reference to the original incident, or the brothers having been on the run.
Oh yeah you actually got a point there it would be hard to work a way through all the different endings in LIS2, I'm still keeping my fingers crossed in case we do get something sean and daniel related
just played the first chapter and honestly i am surprised, good story, great graphics and the way they handle the first game so far has being really good. We need to understand that this game can't be exactly same as the first one....
I have a really good feeling about this game. I can’t wait to play it. With everything that happened in LIS, I get the feeling that even if you sacrificed Arcadia Bay for Chloe, she and Max might get distant. Max would have still been dealing with trauma and Chloe may have survivor’s guilt because the timeline was destroying itself because she was supposed to die. I can see them not being as close as a result.
I remember being surprised with how much I liked the 1st game back when it came out when I like 24 or 25. I never looked at any of the sequels but I heard Max was coming back for this one so that got me interested in checking it out. Hope it ends up being as good as the 1st game.
IF you've sacrificed arcadia bay, wouldn't joyce be dead? perhaps we'll see chloe's social media as the replacement. Iirc from LIS2 Victoria is alive in both decisions, so we'll see her in both timelines. I'm overjoyed at max's return and her mature self, but I would be lying if I didn't miss her old self. I'm slightly unimpressed with her new power's rework but I hope it evolves somewhat to what we knew of. They should've left the screw up turning back time with the rewind time thing from the original life is strange instead of just skipping it.

Hello :) I’m glad to hear that the game gives a great impression so far! I really hope it stays this way, and the game will positively surprise us all :) I’m personally anxiously excited for it, and hearing you talk about your experiences definitely made me more excited than anxious! I can’t wait to learn more about the characters, about Max’s trauma and about her new ability. It seems like her shifting objects from one timeline into the other is something that can’t be avoided in this scene because she does it by accident, but I do wonder if anything would happen if she just appeared out of thin air in front of other people. Maybe the Shift points are deliberately placed to avoid that, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just like in Life is Strange, where she could rewind time in front of other people without them noticing anything ;) Good to know that Safi is indeed the only change between the two timelines, and Chloe’s fate doesn’t change depending on it. I don’t think she will play a large role in the game - by default, she can’t -, but I fully expect a cameo appearance :) I’m pretty sure that’s why the marketing avoided talking about her, btw - it would distract from the main story and since Chloe won’t be a part of it, showing her would give people a wrong idea about her importance. We’ll see, I guess, but I’m confident she’ll make an appearance sooner or later :)
hiya! :) i really hope so too! obviously this is from earlier in the game, so i'm just hoping it manages to stay consistent that way. i agree! i'm honestly really excited to actually play the game - and it's only a month off now! the timeline shifting stuff absolutely has to have a bigger impact on the story, though i suspect we'll definitely have a few moments where she shifts right in front of characters with no reaction lol yeah, i think we're definitely on-cue to see a Chloe cameo - they don't want to mislead fans into thinking she's a bigger part of the story, so her being in the game has to be a secret until release - she'll likely end up as a light-hearted moment to replace max's date with Amanda in the other timeline - but that's for the next video! :P
I'm so sad I won't be able to play this game due to the pulse and shift graphics. Everytime she activates it and the colors start moving and waving around I get bad motion sickness.
If Max travels to a different timeline, wouldn’t her texts stay the same? It’s still the phone of her original timeline, right? Or does she switch bodies? Possess other Max? Where even is other Max in the other timeline?
I also want to say that I LOVE how you say the game is like a love-child of the original and True Colors! imo, True Colors was the best polished game of the series. I love Max and Arcadia Bay, but from so many standpoints like the much better graphics and facial animation, a really great story that has an honest to goodness HAPPY ENDING instead of picking a sad ending or sadder ending LOL, and I just think it's the most well put together game in the series even if I have a soft spot for Max. If Double Exposure is like a love-child of both games, It sounds like it might be the best LiS game yet!
it definitely has the polished vibes that True Colours has, while obviously still keeping Max at the forefront. I really hope we get a positive, uplifting ending for this game (in at least one playthrough!) because i don't know if i can handle more heartbreak :')
The plot of this game reminds me of a movie starring the guy from taken where he and his wife and son are in a car crash and he gains the ability to travel between 2 timelines one where his wife servived the crash and there son didn’t and the other were the son servived the crash but the wife didn’t and he has to solve the same murder case in both timelines
This isn’t the first time max has used this ability in the LIS comics she gained the ability to travel between 2 timeline one where Rachel amber and Chloe were never killed by Jefferson and the other is the sacrifice Arcadia bay ending of LIS 1 in that story max meets another person with powers he has the ability to not be seen so basically invisibility and is even able to travel to the other timeline by accidentally grabbing onto max mid time jump
im just wondering what happened to max’s original power. did she lose it between lis 1 and lis 2? or did she just keep it this whole time but it’s evolved into this shifting ability overtime? im guessing we cant rewind anymore so what does it mean
I just want to know if they address what is happening with the alternate version of MAX since our MAX is crossing over into their universe? Will Max meet Max, does their max cross over into our world while Max is in there?
One major thing that really stood out to me is the animations, I understand that this is an early build of the game so they're not going to be perfect, but a lot of the animations looked stiff to me. One area I especially noticed is the way Max's fingers are often splayed when they probably shouldn't be. Another was how the facial expressions just don't seem to hit the mark on what they're trying to show, kinda like the models are made of putty or something. I really hope they can fix these issues before the game releases, since I'd hate for the game to be dragged down by poor quality models and animations if the story is good
"A baby between the 1st LiS game and True Colors"? Damn, the more I hear about Double Exposure, the more my hype increases. I'm pretty sure that this might reveal as the best LiS game we've ever had. I really, really, really hope it grows up to the expectations. Can't wait to play that baby!!
I’m guessing since you had the Bay playthrough you don’t know how the trauma will be different for Max if she sacrificed the town? Also out of interest was the Bay timeline by your choice or did you have to play that - all the content we’ve seen seems focused on Bay and not Bae and I’m wondering if that’s a deliberate move on Square/D9

I was gonna avoid this game because they made her look too different in the trailers compared to her appearance in the first game, but now It looks like they made some minor adjustments to her face to make her look more like her original appearance which is awesome. Getting it for sure now. 👍
I wasn't a fan of LIS True Colors. I hope this will have a more interesting story and better characters. Max helps, I just hope they won't butcher her character by putting her in a bad or mid sequel.
I liked it but it was waaaay to short and most characters interacted through text and the story was laid back with not much threat but if it was longer I would like it more
@@DragonKazuma I agree, it had potential. The story just wasn't there sometimes and yeah the characters weren't as well handled as before in other lis games.
I liked the characters, but we didn’t get enough time with them to really connect. Maybe there were too many characters to interact with, and there just wasn’t enough time with them all
I’m glad they don’t seem to be doing the “Chloe is alive in one timeline and dead in the other” thing. I always thought that would be a cheap move, and would undercut the significance of the choice we made in LiS 1. That choice was in my opinion really well done, as you see from the strong feelings people have about their decision and the near-even split ten years later. It doesn’t need redoing, especially not as it would then overshadow the new story. I’m also excited about the game, but as I play on Switch I’m going to have to somehow purge my algorithm of anything LiS related for however long it take them to do a port. >.

I’m going to assume they’ll only have one or two scenes where Max may mention Chloe or the bay ending choice maybe mentioning through what i hope will be in her diary again or perhaps Chloe texting Max or David/Joyce in the other alternative choice? Im pretty sure our LIS1 choices won’t have any real impact on the main story except a short amount of dialogue
@@dan290786 I think the difficulty is that while a short cameo was fine for the other games with new protagonists, it’s not going to cut it when the protagonist literally is Max. They need to make the first game relevant to the story as more than just a cameo, while also not having to make two completely different games to accommodate the endings. I don’t envy them at all. I’m speculating that Max will use writing to Chloe as a journaling device in the Bay timeline, like Chloe did for Max. In the Bae timeline I have no idea. 😅
@@andydyer6591 i honestly think we’ll only have brief mentions of Chloe as i said through texts or a conversation and if its the bay ending, again brief mentions of what happened, maybe a text from Joyce or David or someone else who survived the storm, but that’s all. I’m pretty sure the main focus will be the new story they have going forward
I will say Life Is Strange 1 is definitely not an ‘indie sensation.’ I think a better way would have been to say it feels like it or something along those lines. You can’t be an indie sensation when a big-name publisher like Square Enix is bankrolling it, irrespective of the budget size. Also, the exclusive part feels very misleading. This is the same portion that people at Gamescom played and that was shown at Pax West. Exclusive preview would be a better fit.

hey! i agree that "indie" probably wasn't the wisest choice of words for me - it was indie in spirit, with Square Enix using limited marketing for the game, the project having a much smaller budget, as well as its unorthodox and off-trend style for the time (it became a sort of de-facto episodic game), it felt very indie-esque. as for your comments on my title - i did have access to exclusive gameplay - these things don't lose the status of being exclusive by being available to a few more people. i never called it "never-before-seen", for example. many people have not seen the PAX gameplay, or played the game at gamescom.

You could arguably say Life Is Strange 1 is AA rather than AAA. But to call it indie would be off the mark. On the second point, but sorry, I don't agree. They showed you 'exclusive' gameplay at a hands-on preview. It's hardly exclusive when they've shown it at two other events. Exclusive would mean only you have access to this, but this footage has been widely available since Gamescom and then later PAX West. You don't see IGN calling something exclusive only for another publication to post it. All I'm saying is an exclusive hands-on preview was a better and more accurate title because that's what you had access to. Exclusive gameplay suggests your channel is the only place this footage is at, which it clearly isn't. Have a nice day!
it started out that way. DontNod is an indie company. they only have 2 big games, LIS1 and LIS2. Michel Koch’s team only made LIS1 and LIS2 and other DontNod games were made by a different team. Life Is Stranges original director will be releasing Lost Records: Bloom and Rage which probably won’t be indie based on how LIS2 was. i’m disappointed seeing fans saying Lost Records is gonna be like Max and Chloe’s story because it’s a completely new story with new characters and people need to respect that.
Before the Storm tanked my hopes for this franchise, Rachel was a massive user and Chloe was nothing more than a tool Also the cop thinking Max is SUS, he could be from the Second game where he faced Sean and Daniel so he might know about kids with powers seeing as in one timeline they psychically punched their way into Mexico and Alex psychically Talk No Jutsued an entire town to confess their sins the week she showed up
Honestly, the first LiS already told us how manipulative Rachel was, BtS just expanded on that. Like, I don't understand how that caught people by surprise, she was equally two faced as Victoria, just slightly better in that she cared for Chloe in her own genuine way.
agreed i don’t like DeckNines games. didn’t like Before the Storm or True colors, both were boring and barely had a proper choice system. I really didnt like True Colors. Yes, they still had the classic LiS moments where you could observe a scene while indie music played and enjoy a melancholic voiceover, but overall, the dev change was just so jarring to me (I played True Colors, like, the day after I finished LiS 2 and I had no idea the devs changed). I really missed the charm and small quirks of LiS 1 and 2, like the 'skill' moments of taking pictures or drawing or even indie music playing over credits to give you a reflective 'breather' btwn episodes. Moments like that really force you as the player to slow down and reflect. True Colors felt so empty without it. Do you think Double Exposure is worth a shot for someone like me?

As someone who has played all 5 games in the series this one definitely grasps the vibe of the original the most while still remaining different. Really looking foward to chapters 3-5
this game is fan fic to me because it wasn’t made by DontNod. im disappointing DeckNine took over because we never got a DontNod Life is Strange 3 which would’ve been amazing. Life is Strange 2 is my favorite game of all time and means the world to me and i imagine how good LIS3 could’ve been. im annoyed by how fans basically kicked DontNod out of their own franchise just because they were mad about max and chloe not returning.
Well i have to say that i actually loved before the storm and true colours. I loved LIS2 as well, all the games are incredible. Im sorry you didn’t feel that way though and i do get what you’re saying though, i think personally for me, Deck Nine have done a good job replicating the DontNod feel of the games
The game looks amazing but I just feel like it’s gonna end the same as lis1 she uses her power to much rips up space and time and she has to make a hard choice to fix it probably if safi lives or dies or something else but I think we are 100% gonna mess up and probably accidentally combine both universes

i have bought all the other life is strange games however when i heard that sweet baby ink help make this game and the recent release of that sweet baby ink developer saying there entire reason of the company is to quote burn down the current gaming industry i took that game off my wish list as i know if they are involved with this game it is going to be bad , its totally sad cuz i was looking forward to this game !
Definitely no exclusive if we had seen other people before playing the same part... Also this game is far from Indie, it was a game made by a big company that has been doing big name games for a while.

had a few peeps questioning my use of the word "indie" to describe the first LiS game - by modern standards, LiS is far from an indie game - it's an established IP with significant online presence, nominations for awards, and millions of sales. back in 2015, when DONTNOD was a very small company, the game was extremely unorthodox and off-trend, this game was very indie-esque, if not indie. even though they did manage to secure a deal to publish their game with Square Enix, Life is Strange was a pretty nothing game back then. one of the reasons the game blew up in popularity was not through huge marketing campaigns, but through letsplayers playing it - perhaps it's not indie by raw technicality, but i would not describe Life is Strange (2015) as a major/AAA game :)

Larian Studios was an indie kind of company originally with their Divinity games. They had small resources and were on the verge of bankruptcy after every game. However, with DOS and even more do DOS 2 they got a lot of recognition. So they got AAA level resources for making BG3. BG3 became a mega hit and now Larian Studios are like the Bioware 20 years ago. It's one of the most appraised gaming companies at the moment.
We can hope Don't Nod and Deck Nine can get similar success. They found a game niche with a lot of potential. It's so refreshing playing games where combat isn't present at all. Instead you're invited on an emotional journey. That's probably why LIS is so popular among female gamers.

I can't believe people are disputing you calling the original life is strange independent or not. They most certainly were! Like you said, the game barely had any marketing but it got huge after it was announced at E3 if I remember correctly.
It was a word of mouth game and part of its popularity was because of its affordability and TV show release schedule. It's one of the few games released after the year 2010 that I still like to play once every couple of years.
Yeah we get it. Some games start indie and then are bought by a company and stop being indie. One example is Plant vs Zombies. What I think is that maybe some people could think that the game started as a high gross proposal by companies because they started to play the games later.

You are correct, but I wonder what people thought it was going to be if that comes as a surprise. I am genuinely asking. Max went through hell in Life is Strange. She watched her best friend die multiple times over, sometimes by her own hand. Her friend tried to and possibly did kill herself. She was constantly in mortal danger, she was kidnapped and almost killed by a serial killer. She watched people she knew and cared about die all around her as her childhood hometown was torn to shreds and this is not to even mention the psychosexual crisis she had in the dreamscape of Chapter 5.
What else would Max's return ever be if not her dealing with the trauma of that? How could she look at Chloe the same way ever again after she either let thousands die because of her, or how could she live in Arcadia after her best friend got murdered and she was exposed to everyone's worst selves? There is no version of the story where she and Chloe could ever be happily together. Life is Strange may not be realistic, but for the story and the narrative to work, they have to reflect reality in some way.

I played before the storm at a point of my life when I was having trouble dealing with past trauma and I have been very touched by the way they pictured Chloe trying to deal with hers in the game
I’m going in with an open mind, but I can’t lie and say that I’m not skeptical about this game. I just don’t know if DeckNine will be able to recapture the magic that made DontNod’s Lis games so special. Especially since they’re using their characters and basically doing the same exact story.
the rest of the story awaits to be seen - but from what I played, i was impressed. i don't think it has the same magic as 1 or 2, but it's got a lot of charm to it :)
@@CucuOnGames maybe. I just wish they did something different. It’s the same murder mystery story that we’ve played damn near every Lis game. The only game in the franchise that actually does something different is Lis 2.
Having replayed all the games recently, I can say one of the best things this franchise does is the choices and consequences system. They always do an incredible job with the settings/art direction and soundtrack. These games have always explored moral grey areas and fascinating social topics, but ultimately these games are only meant to be replayed once or twice to access all the content. I have faith in Deck Nine. As much as I disliked Alex's empathy power in True Colors and Chloe's back talk ability, the story kept me invested. at first when I saw the gameplay of switching between timelines I thought this game looked like the medium, and I was highly skeptical. But it seems like with Hannah, the writing isn't as forced as much. I know a lot of cutscenes can be cliche and corny but that's the charm of the game, but yea... fingers crossed that they can match or exceed the quality of the first game. Based on what I've seen so far, at least we know the graphics, lip syncing and facial animations are way better. We know the setting and art style are gonna be dope just like the soundtrack. The writing has come such a far way from the first game "you are going to get in hella more trouble" lmao. The highlight of every life is strange game are the decisions you are forced to make and how your decisions ultimately affect the plot. You're never going to have a better time playing this game than on your first playthrough, before you know how every decision plays out. Enjoy the shit out of that first playthrough and just soak it in.

When I played the first game both my best friend and I were just about to start university, my best friend loved the game so much that she even cosplayed as max. Sadly my best friend passed away 2 years ago and seeing this new game focus back on Max makes me want to play it especially since its an older max who im assuming is around my age (mid to late 20s)

I feel like if you get texts from Joyce ... that if you play in the save Chloe timeline you'll get texts from Chloe instead... because if you save Chloe, Joyce dies in the storm

Hey so like imma photographer, studied it in school and everything, i just wanna say the double exposure title is VERY interesting because basically double exposure is overlapping two or more images (normally of the same place) but at different points in time or even just a few seconds difference then lower the layers exposure so it becomes almost ghostly. So probs represents all of them coming together as one, some parts are shadowy, blurry but u can see it all
There is a point in the reveal livestream where they show Max's text conversations with Joyce Price. Joyce mentions it being 9 years since Chloe died.

In my opinion, I think that the problem is not the fact that Max is grown, it's the way they changed the original Life is Strange style that looked like it was kind of a painting to just another 3D game. The original style made it feel unique, this one makes it feel the same as other games, making it lose its essence
It’s the way they handled max as a character and I don’t feel connected to her at all. Plus if Chloe’s a no show then this makes it even worse imo (like she’s only gonna be viewed in texts, what’s the reason for her coming to visit max?). They could’ve made a sequel to the original lis where we see what happened after the tornado crashed into the bay. This is probably going to be a soft or hard reboot to the series and tbh I’m more optimistic about lost records. This is likely gonna be a boring cash grab imo

But Lost Records reminds me so much of the original LiS vibes, and that's why I'm more hyped for it than I am for the new LiS, hoping that it's true and Lost Records make original LiS justice
I think the thing to remember is that Max was like extremly thin at 18. It make sense that as she turned from teen to adult that her body structure caught up a bit. I think it doesnt help that her face is face bit wider, but it just sorta happen to people as they grow up

Thank you so much! I'm actually super interested and happy to hear that they're delving deep into Max's trauma. I'm happy she's actually turned out as well as she has considering the horrible experience she went through and she's grown much more of a backbone due to her friendship with Chloe and all the shenanigans she went through; but I'm even more happier that Arcadia Bay is still somewhere inside her and she hasn't figured out what to do with it. I personally will choose the Chloe Survives route in my first playthrough simply because I think it will lead to much juicier content. I just hope Chloe and her haven't broken up or something that would make the player feel like sacrificing the town wasn't worth it haha. Lastly is KATE!! gosh, I hope we see our girl again and that she and Max have been keeping in touch!!

Personally I think they did an excellent job with recreating Max as an adult. She actually does look like Max and what she could look like as an adult. Was a bit down on it at first but the more i see her the more i see teen Max in her.
I think she looks a lot more like Max from the remastered edition, which is DeckNine's "vision" of how they see Max, I guess - I think she does look like her! Plus, she's nearly 30, and has a different hairstyle, of course she's going to look a little bit different

Shout out to life is strange for not feeling the need to explain how these ordinary people continue to get these extraordinary abilities. It keeps the ideas of these powers fresh and unpredictable due to the wielder. Every franchise always ruins the magic when they over explain the origins but i got to hand it to them for keepin it vague
i've always really liked the series for using the powers as a vessel for character growth and plot movement, and never really explaining how they worked. the "why" isn't important, it's what the character does with them :)

There is literally not a single clue about him, whether Max and Warren can be a couple in Double Exposure or if they are still good friends like they were in school. I am really curious to know what has become of his life considering he was relatively smart in chemistry, maybe he is a teacher now or a scientist, I hope they bring Warren back.

i didn’t think about this but you’re right, he’s a love interest in the first game and therefore maxs canon partner to some players, so it would be disappointing if he wasn’t back because he’s an optional interest in the first game
I mean, it depends on the ending you chose in the first game, if you saved Chloe, Warren is dead and will not be in Double Exposure. But if you sacrificed Chloe, there's a chance he could appear.

Idk I felt like they where resolved well imo in my game Sean goes to Mexico and meets up with cass and live happily ever after and Daniel grows up and keeps contact with Sean maybe one day they meet again.
Yeah that ending was good but the ending I got and what I liked the most was when they both go to Mexico and grow up together, it's clearly implied throughout the story that they both need one another to keep on pushing forward and them reaching that goal ( Puerto lobos) feels like the best ending for me
If LiS 2 is referenced I don’t think the endings will be. It’s enough of a challenge to respect the two endings from LiS 1, let alone the four from LiS 2.
But maybe there would be a reference to the original incident, or the brothers having been on the run.

I have a really good feeling about this game. I can’t wait to play it. With everything that happened in LIS, I get the feeling that even if you sacrificed Arcadia Bay for Chloe, she and Max might get distant. Max would have still been dealing with trauma and Chloe may have survivor’s guilt because the timeline was destroying itself because she was supposed to die. I can see them not being as close as a result.

I remember being surprised with how much I liked the 1st game back when it came out when I like 24 or 25. I never looked at any of the sequels but I heard Max was coming back for this one so that got me interested in checking it out. Hope it ends up being as good as the 1st game.
IF you've sacrificed arcadia bay, wouldn't joyce be dead? perhaps we'll see chloe's social media as the replacement. Iirc from LIS2 Victoria is alive in both decisions, so we'll see her in both timelines. I'm overjoyed at max's return and her mature self, but I would be lying if I didn't miss her old self. I'm slightly unimpressed with her new power's rework but I hope it evolves somewhat to what we knew of. They should've left the screw up turning back time with the rewind time thing from the original life is strange instead of just skipping it.

I’m personally anxiously excited for it, and hearing you talk about your experiences definitely made me more excited than anxious! I can’t wait to learn more about the characters, about Max’s trauma and about her new ability. It seems like her shifting objects from one timeline into the other is something that can’t be avoided in this scene because she does it by accident, but I do wonder if anything would happen if she just appeared out of thin air in front of other people. Maybe the Shift points are deliberately placed to avoid that, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just like in Life is Strange, where she could rewind time in front of other people without them noticing anything ;)
Good to know that Safi is indeed the only change between the two timelines, and Chloe’s fate doesn’t change depending on it. I don’t think she will play a large role in the game - by default, she can’t -, but I fully expect a cameo appearance :) I’m pretty sure that’s why the marketing avoided talking about her, btw - it would distract from the main story and since Chloe won’t be a part of it, showing her would give people a wrong idea about her importance. We’ll see, I guess, but I’m confident she’ll make an appearance sooner or later :)

i agree! i'm honestly really excited to actually play the game - and it's only a month off now! the timeline shifting stuff absolutely has to have a bigger impact on the story, though i suspect we'll definitely have a few moments where she shifts right in front of characters with no reaction lol
yeah, i think we're definitely on-cue to see a Chloe cameo - they don't want to mislead fans into thinking she's a bigger part of the story, so her being in the game has to be a secret until release - she'll likely end up as a light-hearted moment to replace max's date with Amanda in the other timeline - but that's for the next video! :P

If Max travels to a different timeline, wouldn’t her texts stay the same? It’s still the phone of her original timeline, right? Or does she switch bodies? Possess other Max? Where even is other Max in the other timeline?
I also want to say that I LOVE how you say the game is like a love-child of the original and True Colors! imo, True Colors was the best polished game of the series. I love Max and Arcadia Bay, but from so many standpoints like the much better graphics and facial animation, a really great story that has an honest to goodness HAPPY ENDING instead of picking a sad ending or sadder ending LOL, and I just think it's the most well put together game in the series even if I have a soft spot for Max. If Double Exposure is like a love-child of both games, It sounds like it might be the best LiS game yet!
it definitely has the polished vibes that True Colours has, while obviously still keeping Max at the forefront. I really hope we get a positive, uplifting ending for this game (in at least one playthrough!) because i don't know if i can handle more heartbreak :')

The plot of this game reminds me of a movie starring the guy from taken where he and his wife and son are in a car crash and he gains the ability to travel between 2 timelines one where his wife servived the crash and there son didn’t and the other were the son servived the crash but the wife didn’t and he has to solve the same murder case in both timelines

This isn’t the first time max has used this ability in the LIS comics she gained the ability to travel between 2 timeline one where Rachel amber and Chloe were never killed by Jefferson and the other is the sacrifice Arcadia bay ending of LIS 1 in that story max meets another person with powers he has the ability to not be seen so basically invisibility and is even able to travel to the other timeline by accidentally grabbing onto max mid time jump

One major thing that really stood out to me is the animations, I understand that this is an early build of the game so they're not going to be perfect, but a lot of the animations looked stiff to me. One area I especially noticed is the way Max's fingers are often splayed when they probably shouldn't be. Another was how the facial expressions just don't seem to hit the mark on what they're trying to show, kinda like the models are made of putty or something. I really hope they can fix these issues before the game releases, since I'd hate for the game to be dragged down by poor quality models and animations if the story is good

I wasn't a fan of LIS True Colors. I hope this will have a more interesting story and better characters. Max helps, I just hope they won't butcher her character by putting her in a bad or mid sequel.

I’m glad they don’t seem to be doing the “Chloe is alive in one timeline and dead in the other” thing. I always thought that would be a cheap move, and would undercut the significance of the choice we made in LiS 1.
That choice was in my opinion really well done, as you see from the strong feelings people have about their decision and the near-even split ten years later. It doesn’t need redoing, especially not as it would then overshadow the new story.
I’m also excited about the game, but as I play on Switch I’m going to have to somehow purge my algorithm of anything LiS related for however long it take them to do a port. >.
Your ending choice in LIS1 will carry over into this game though. Apparently through dialogue depending what was chosen

Im pretty sure our LIS1 choices won’t have any real impact on the main story except a short amount of dialogue
@@dan290786 I think the difficulty is that while a short cameo was fine for the other games with new protagonists, it’s not going to cut it when the protagonist literally is Max. They need to make the first game relevant to the story as more than just a cameo, while also not having to make two completely different games to accommodate the endings. I don’t envy them at all.
I’m speculating that Max will use writing to Chloe as a journaling device in the Bay timeline, like Chloe did for Max. In the Bae timeline I have no idea. 😅
@@andydyer6591 i honestly think we’ll only have brief mentions of Chloe as i said through texts or a conversation and if its the bay ending, again brief mentions of what happened, maybe a text from Joyce or David or someone else who survived the storm, but that’s all. I’m pretty sure the main focus will be the new story they have going forward
I will say Life Is Strange 1 is definitely not an ‘indie sensation.’ I think a better way would have been to say it feels like it or something along those lines. You can’t be an indie sensation when a big-name publisher like Square Enix is bankrolling it, irrespective of the budget size.
Also, the exclusive part feels very misleading. This is the same portion that people at Gamescom played and that was shown at Pax West. Exclusive preview would be a better fit.

@@stacysmom7643, that still doesn’t mean it was an indie sensation to start with. Square Enix has been there since the very beginning, nullifying any idea that it was indie at any point. Like I said, saying it feels indie or is like a ‘Sundance-esque sensation’ would have been tonally correct.
hey! i agree that "indie" probably wasn't the wisest choice of words for me - it was indie in spirit, with Square Enix using limited marketing for the game, the project having a much smaller budget, as well as its unorthodox and off-trend style for the time (it became a sort of de-facto episodic game), it felt very indie-esque.
as for your comments on my title - i did have access to exclusive gameplay - these things don't lose the status of being exclusive by being available to a few more people. i never called it "never-before-seen", for example. many people have not seen the PAX gameplay, or played the game at gamescom.
@@CucuOnGames, hi! Thanks for the reply. Yeah, it looks and feels indie, but it's far from it. Even then, in 2015, budgets were so much different from what they are nowadays. You could arguably say Life Is Strange 1 is AA rather than AAA. But to call it indie would be off the mark.
On the second point, but sorry, I don't agree. They showed you 'exclusive' gameplay at a hands-on preview. It's hardly exclusive when they've shown it at two other events. Exclusive would mean only you have access to this, but this footage has been widely available since Gamescom and then later PAX West. You don't see IGN calling something exclusive only for another publication to post it. All I'm saying is an exclusive hands-on preview was a better and more accurate title because that's what you had access to. Exclusive gameplay suggests your channel is the only place this footage is at, which it clearly isn't.

it started out that way. DontNod is an indie company. they only have 2 big games, LIS1 and LIS2. Michel Koch’s team only made LIS1 and LIS2 and other DontNod games were made by a different team. Life Is Stranges original director will be releasing Lost Records: Bloom and Rage which probably won’t be indie based on how LIS2 was. i’m disappointed seeing fans saying Lost Records is gonna be like Max and Chloe’s story because it’s a completely new story with new characters and people need to respect that.

Before the Storm tanked my hopes for this franchise, Rachel was a massive user and Chloe was nothing more than a tool
Also the cop thinking Max is SUS, he could be from the Second game where he faced Sean and Daniel so he might know about kids with powers seeing as in one timeline they psychically punched their way into Mexico and Alex psychically Talk No Jutsued an entire town to confess their sins the week she showed up
Honestly, the first LiS already told us how manipulative Rachel was, BtS just expanded on that. Like, I don't understand how that caught people by surprise, she was equally two faced as Victoria, just slightly better in that she cared for Chloe in her own genuine way.

agreed i don’t like DeckNines games. didn’t like Before the Storm or True colors, both were boring and barely had a proper choice system. Life is Strange 1 explored many morally grey areas in choices, and Life is Strange 2 did choices the best because you had several different endings based on how you taught Daniel. Even his slight dialogue and personality changes were based on choices.

I really didnt like True Colors. Yes, they still had the classic LiS moments where you could observe a scene while indie music played and enjoy a melancholic voiceover, but overall, the dev change was just so jarring to me (I played True Colors, like, the day after I finished LiS 2 and I had no idea the devs changed). I really missed the charm and small quirks of LiS 1 and 2, like the 'skill' moments of taking pictures or drawing or even indie music playing over credits to give you a reflective 'breather' btwn episodes. Moments like that really force you as the player to slow down and reflect. True Colors felt so empty without it. Do you think Double Exposure is worth a shot for someone like me?

Edit: And you have those moments of calm with the music again. As someone who has played all 5 games in the series this one definitely grasps the vibe of the original the most while still remaining different. Really looking foward to chapters 3-5

this game is fan fic to me because it wasn’t made by DontNod. im disappointing DeckNine took over because we never got a DontNod Life is Strange 3 which would’ve been amazing. Life is Strange 2 is my favorite game of all time and means the world to me and i imagine how good LIS3 could’ve been. im annoyed by how fans basically kicked DontNod out of their own franchise just because they were mad about max and chloe not returning.
Well i have to say that i actually loved before the storm and true colours. I loved LIS2 as well, all the games are incredible. Im sorry you didn’t feel that way though and i do get what you’re saying though, i think personally for me, Deck Nine have done a good job replicating the DontNod feel of the games
