When I was in year 8 now I’m in year 14 I was made to choose my options for GCSE my friend picked French like me but she picked it in the same block as me so we were in the same class. I would recommend asking people who have taken the subjects because the description of some of the options aren’t the same as what you learn sometimes. I chose media and hated it so much, the description sounded so good but it was awful. Pick subjects you know you’ll use when older or be good for your career you want to do, definitely don’t pick the same subjects as your friends because you might not enjoy what they are doing, or be in the same class as them, if I could go back I would change some of my GCSEs, I picked history, media, French and child development, with maths, science and English. French is so difficult, if you don’t understand it in year 7 and 8 don’t pick it, it’ll be a waist of time, also a lot of the revision books you probably don’t need, the pre packed revision books they give are so helpful! Flash cards are a must along with past papers! Revision constantly for 2 weeks before the exam works so so well! Helped me pass. If you get homework get it done during free time or when you get home, don’t leave it till the last minute! Make sure you take as many detailed notes during class as possible this will better your chances at revision, if you miss a day make sure you get catch up work so you can keep on top of the work. Many teachers are willing to help during lunch so take this opportunity if you have an upcoming exam. Don’t leave revision till the week/ night before. Plan and have a scheduled of what you will study and when you will, focus on the subject that has an exam first, but don’t always focus on one subject do a little revision of each subject until the exams. Revise with friends, it helps to get out the house and do something different. Always remember you can have a life outside of school just know how to plan around revision, don’t spend little to no time revising, you might not have the same friend in a years times so focus on revision, passing as many GCSEs as you can will better your chances at going to a good university if you choose to go. And this is the same for sixthform too Hope this helped :)
I’m hearing about everyone’s options at their schools and it is so different at my school. I code my GCSEs in y8 started them in y9 we have to do Maths, French, English language, English literature, combined or triple science and ethics. Then we get three more choices. I chose history, geography and photography. No wonder I feel overwhelmed by all the subjects I’m taking! My advice would be don’t choose subjects just because your friends are doing them. My whole friend group chose drama except me and half of them regret it.
Ayyy I'm so glad I came across this video again when I first watched it I didn't really care about gcse but now I'm in year 7 and homeschooled so this has really helped with me picking my options tyyy
Good luck with history! It’s quite content based and you have to remember a lot of dates. I picked geography and I regret picking it as its also quite content based but I prefer it to history as a whole section has been taken out!! I’m doing my GCSEs this year :(
thanks for making this video, i'm choosing my options now (i'm in year eight which i know is quite early!) but this video was super useful and definitely helped! have a great weekend ruby. x
I choose mini options in year 8 so either 1 language (which you have to do as ur only language for GCSE) and 3 creatives (which you then choose from for GCSE) or do 2 languages (so you can choose for GCSE) and 1 creative (but you can choose a different one for GCSE)
Hiii , I also struggled choosing options but here is what I picked : geography, triple science award, sociology. I was gonna pick psychology but I didn’t. In our school we don’t have media or drama or history. Just have subjects like art , computer science, main subjects and business and economy
hey, I'm going into year 9 next year and hearing you say you get one piece of homework a fortnight is crazy from a year 9! It's probably different schools but on average I was getting 10-12 pieces of homework every week :( so overwhelming as well as constant tests in all subjects (every 2-3 weeks) xx
I’m in year 13 now and do polish, psychology and media for a level. For gcses I picked combined science, geography, art, French and polish as my options and funny thing I’m going to study art at university now.Good luck ruby 💖💖
As a year 11 I picked French(I changed it to geography tho as I didn’t particularly enjoy it), I picked photography(this was the best I’m taking it for college when I go in September), health and social care(there was loads of course work 😂) and design tech(dt) (lots of course work and theory, I’ve just finished my coursework so I’m now doing theory and revision for my GCSEs, same for photography and health and social care as I don’t want to retake the h&s care exam in June)
@@rubyroseuk that’s a shame I had a option to do 3d pottery design I put that before health and social care but they didn’t end up doing it I was so annoyed 😭xx I hope you do well in the subjects you chose
I’m in year 11 and I remember picking my options in year 9 and it is better to think for weeks I’m guessing because I rushed myself to pick mine and let’s just say I highly regret picking 2 of my 3 options
we don't have media at my school 😫 our options are so bad, I'm doing business, geography and RE. We didn't get to choose between combined or triple science, it was based off our end of year exams, but the people doing combined don't get another option so they still just pick 3, we also have to do a language!
I'm taking Art, History and Textiles. But in my school we have to take Welsh because I live in Wales, and also I'm taking separate science. Idk if you remember, but I'm that girl who has the exact same birthday as you and we're the same age. But anyways I understand this completely. I'm actually very excited for my course work to start
I chose: Triple science (separate science for u) History Photography And drama It took me sooo long to choose between drama and music aswell but I settled on drama :))
I’m in year 11 and the difference between seperate and combined science is the difficulty and length of exams ! You still have seperate lessons of biology chemistry and physics but with combined you have two PE lessons a week and seperate is one. The combined exams are 1hr 15 and seperate is 1hr r5. Hope this helps cx
I'm near the end of year 9 and I've picked geography, history and photography and Spanish as the language (it's compulsory to take a language in my school), but I might change to french. Most people said not to take geography and history together but I like both so I have lol
i definitely struggled picking my gcse choices but i picked combined science, history and drama since math, english and french is compulsory ( french is compulsory bc of where i live )
I picked art, child development, (business and sociology for reserves) french (had no choice 🙄) and history. My school picks what science I do and obviously im doing English and maths
Heyyy love your content just about to watch the video but I need to ask you something what camera do you use and what do you use to edit your videos?? Love your content!! 💗💗
I’m in yr 10 doing combined science. You still learn the three subjects separately but there is extra stuff u learn in separate that u don’t learn in combined science. When it comes to exams, you do two papers for each science ( chemistry, biology, physics) instead of three which you do in separate science
Hey ruby, I’m also in year 9 and I also had to choose my gcse options. My school was almost the same. Can you please make a what’s on my iPhone pleaseee??
@@aran9601 it's okay but it's a combination of coursework and exams and personally coursework isn't for me, i find the exam units so much easier. the topics are interesting tho
I’m going to year ten as well. I actually don’t know what I’m going to do. Like do I need folders for each of my subjects, do I need to start making revision materials from the start or is it okay if I do it later. Bro idk what I’m doing
