Unsurprisingly this is the best demo of the pedal online, I'm not much of a singer, but I can see what the pedal does without years of singing training.
I have followed IVL's technology since 1991, have owned most related devices by different manufactures, have made notable uses myself, and follow the UA-cam videos. This demo is the best that I have seen as it demonstrates the total technology behind and beyond auto harmonies. Daniel moved through the features quickly and efficiently. The theremin is a fantastic idea to show pitch correction.
It's definitely a matter of what you know, as opposed to what you can show. Daniel here has a sharp mind for defining verbally what the machine can do. I think we appreciate that easier than having the distraction of a shifting focus with multiple singers and trying to decide what fits for our own needs Thumbs up to Daniel.
this demo is showing exactly what I needed to know, thx! when what you want to know is how well a unit performs, you take it in that approach. the idea of the theremin is perfect to know how well the pitch correction goes.
Hi przemyslawlxx, There are many, many parameters you can adjust and store per patch. There aren't enough characters allowed here to even begin listing them. The best thing would be to download the Owner's Manual from Roland's site for free. You just have to register once and then you can get any manual they ever made.
I love your demos and in fact, it was the RE 20 demo that persuaded me to buy one in the uk, literally minutes after watching it, so great job and keep it up Daniel , youre a legend matey
Great demo bro! I have this and I absolutely cannot play a live gig without it as a solo ukulele player/singer the harmony pedal is an awesome feature! Boss is the Boss!!
I watched the orriginal version and cut it instantly, you don't really know what these things sound like until you have somebody stand there and actually screw around with it like this dude... Thanks dude ! I believe your not a beat boxer, but dang that sounded really good with minimal effort, I can see how this can be as much fun as potentially amazing under the right circumstances of band~ :)
Daniel Fischer, you just blew my mind. I have been using the obvious delay to help smooth the sound but also I have a Harmonist HR2 that I have set to play a 4th and 6th below (So that its a full chord with the theremin on the octave) Ive found that this helps me because the harmonist stays in key too.... but to use this guy to put the initial note in tune?!?!?!? WTF?!?!? Thats awesome! I know its not theremin enthusist friendly.... but Jonathan Smith at my local dive bar is not gonna know....
Other important stuff: the pitch correction can be set to the basic Maj / MIn scales but setting to Chromatic seems to be the best for good singers. Also IT SUPPLIES PHANTOM POWER AT 48V for your condensor mics. Attractive features: It has Speakon connectors for input, and stereo L/R outputs. it has stereo 1/4 jacks for headphones or to a mixer. Even if I don't use the harmoniser, it works as a great reverb, delay, chorus, flange, strobe, phrase sampler for voice or instruments in my setup.
@danielobrien8 Thanks for your feedback. Our goal was to show the many capabilities of the VE-20. There are a number of excellent singing demos online. When Daniel decided to create this video, he did so to demonstrate a variety of other uses for the VE-20's effects, including for speech, which is also a popular application and one we wanted to highlight.
Not a great singer, but compared to actual singers, you gave the best rundown explanations on what the "Boss VE-20 Vocal Effects Processor" is capable of. Thankyou.
It would be nice if you didn`t cut the reverb or delay "tail" when you switch presets. thnk about it. i`m an mc and i`m using tc helicon create . same problem.
Hey Sweetwater Sound, it's a good thing I didn't see this vid before I went out and bought the BOSS VE20. This vid looks like a guy having fun with a multi effect pedal that makes FX sounds, something like the early pitchshifters of the 90s + modulation + preamp distortions. You should show how pitching the voice or instrument to a key sounds like when a passage of notes are played, and change the keys. I felt the selling point for this was the ease of setting up my patches, Simple.
hey, that wasn't a bad demo, at all. I was kind of expecting cheesy 90s rap with the looper but it turned out to be a good improv. I don´t even thing a single person on youtube has ever hooked one to a theremin!
Excellent, however I don't know much about changing parameters by buttons, What you can adjust except scroling by the knob? In additon relative to sound quality is this comparable to rack fx?
@EWSdaily It only has one input, but I use an A/B switch box to alternate between my dynamic mic and lap steel. Using the VE-20 as a processor for the lead lines and voice. But I have a correction: speakon jacks only on input, the 2 outputs are std XLR.
Hi Tama Korewha. The Harmony is based on the Key you choose for a particular Preset. It's not based on an external source (such as guitar chords). You can choose from all 12 Major keys, and you can get 12 Minor keys by using the relative Major key. (For example: C Maj = Am, F Maj = Dm, Bb Maj = Gm, etc.) Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
@PHeMoX I just got the Neptune pitcher with Reasonrecord and find it's not as easy to use as I thought, unless my voice is SO bad that even a pitch adjuster can't help it!
Does anyone know what amp you need to fit the boss ve20 pedal. You know so that when you play an instrument the actual sound can come out as these don’t have built in speakers do they. Thanks
Hi BattleKAT. The VE-20 has a pair of XLR OUTPUT jacks that can be connected to any Mixer or PA that has XLR INPUT jacks. It also has a 1/4" LINE/PHONES jack that can either be used with a monaural 1/4" guitar cable to connect it to a guitar or keyboard amp. Or you can use a 1/4" TRS to L 1/4" TS and R 1/4" TS (also called an Insert Cable) to go to stereo keyboard amps or mixers. And finally, if you get a cable with 1/4" TRS on one end, and 1/8" TRS on the other end, you could go directly to any portable speaker with an 1/8" AUX IN jack. Thanks for watching!
@MrMusicMaXimum Hey I use it with my lap steel for single note when I need a different chord inversion not available on with my slanted steel. Turned off the pitch correction, but set the correct key and I can slide chromatic runs. Like wise on vocals it creates great fills, or response phrases. Plug in the electric git and rocks, Minimal use is enough, one complimentary harmony is cool. Balance between the parts and softer highest and lowest parts are things to set.
I run almost anything through it. It works. don't expect to run this straight into your multitrack recording and remix later. it has noticeable artifacts but sounds great live for any club band. I only use pitch correction as an effect. this isn't a harmoniser so don't complain if you dont know some basic theory on music or have no ear for tasteful pitch shifting. my comments are based on the usual complaints by hobbyist music enthusiasts expecting this to make them sound like The Eagles 'live' or plain clueless. If u see someone sounding real good on this, its them and their sound guy that tested every patch setting for the live set. no substitute for skill.
Hi SynthBabe, I'm guessing that 38 seconds just happens to equal how much free RAM is in there. As far as the layers go, yup, you can keep overdubbing until days later when you've played every single frequency within human hearing. Then it'll sound more like noise - but it'll take you many, many, many overdubs to get there ;-) I didn't use a keyboard on this on since most keyboards already have delay, reverb, flange, distortion, etc. But it would work.
Question, can you set up different channels and switch between them using the pedal ? For example 1)a reverb on one, 2)tape echo on another etc.... I want to be able to use this in a live situation and quickly change channels in different songs
is it possible to have numerous effects enabled at the same time ie distortion + flanger + doubler, or is it one effect at a time (excluding the layering of the looping function of course)?
1. Why is the phrase looper 38 seconds? Why not 30, 45, or 60 secs? Can one really go "on and on and on" with the layers, with the only ceiling be the likeability of the user? Can you save what you make on the phrase looper for future use? 2. Great demo with the non-traditional use of the theremin. I was surprised that a keyboard did not make an appearance in your demo as they often do. Any particular reason? At first glance this seems like a good tool to do some basic sequencing.
@nickeeboy Actually I am looking for Harmonizing melody I play on my accordion or saxophone. Problem may occur when I play different parts in different keys and no time to change the key manually BOSS VE-20.But I may try to borrow from the music store and try what works best. Thank you very much for your answer anyway.
@MrMusicMaXimum Hi, you might want to use a different patch for that key change. eg: patch 58 verse -> patch 59 key change bridge -> patch 60 key change in chorus . Maybe it should be one after the other, if you don't like to re-load the patch 58 two steps back. The change can be made by pressing down the right harmony pedal for 2 seconds, then left and right pedals act as up and down controls for patch change. But other brands have effects that read chord voicings from your keyboard player.
that was a fucki.... freaking HELPFULL video of this pedal. the best video for that pedal on utube. great job and thanks . the only thing i really dont like on it is that you cant change the frequencies if im right. :/
I've got this what I cannot understand is how can you play an acoustic guitar and sing just standard harmonies with yourself without the mic picking up what the guitar is doing and then it sounds terrible? also when I just try to get standard two part harmonies with my recorded lead vocal it has some sort of weird harmony instead of just the 3td. and 5th. Help please, anyone.
@astrophonix You might have to dial in the appropriate scales for it to work best and use a pitch correction strength that suits your needs. I'm not familiar with Neptune though, only with Antares ART and AVP-1, the hardware auto tuners. In theory a pitch correcting plugin should be able to fix any voice regardless how bad you're singing. It helps when you're close to the notes, but if all fails you should use midi notes as pitch guides for the auto tuner. Then just record along that.
@TheDigger2262 If you are singing live and have any kind of stage presence, you will probably miss a note or two during a performance. It is just extra security for that.
Love the stereo effect on the tremolo
I stumble across this vid for the first time 11 years later and even then Daniel was an interesting presenter and class act.
Unsurprisingly this is the best demo of the pedal online, I'm not much of a singer, but I can see what the pedal does without years of singing training.

this is what I've always wanted to see on a demo on this product, the theremin was the greatest idea to show the pitch correction !!!! genius!!!!
this demo is showing exactly what I needed to know, thx! when what you want to know is how well a unit performs, you take it in that approach. the idea of the theremin is perfect to know how well the pitch correction goes.

the theremin part is incredible!!!science blows my mind

great demo! Just got mine today. Thanks for the added bit with the Theremin. Very much appreciated!

Brilliant demo, best on youtube yet!!
Dont normally comment on youtube but have to say, what a great demo... excellent presenting.
Cheers
Seems like a lot of useful effects you could apply immediately to your performances.

best ve-20 demo I've seen!
3:04 , 4:07 , 4:27 , 4:36 , 4:46 and 8:39 were all extremely scary, but it was 5:57 that made me cry myself to sleep the night i watched this...
Hi posiedonpowertrio,
I know for certain that you can get them at Sweetwater ;-)
Olá Sou Músico saxofonista, brasileiro, comprei um Ve-20 e estou usando ele no meu saxofone, estou adorando.Muito BOM !!!
I'm sold!
I got it yesterday!!! Thumbs up who got envious! :D
wow. Great job!
hey, that wasn't a bad demo, at all. I was kind of expecting cheesy 90s rap with the looper but it turned out to be a good improv. I don´t even thing a single person on youtube has ever hooked one to a theremin!

And now I can see where moog got inspiration for adding auto tune to the mini theremin! You should get a comission!
This is the best video on youtube.
Ok the hand frequency sold me! I'll buy!
@EWSdaily

Can you add effects to the pedal?
Superb demo.Makes me want one.
This is a very good demo of the peda. Thanks for doing it. Oh and 6:00 was disturbing! HAHAH
best tutorial on this product! thanks dude!
Great demo! Good job! Nice Examples!!
You are a natural beat box master.
That Snoop Dogg missed out.
Fo shizzle!
can i get a flanger, pitch correction, reverb and delay all at the same time if i need to?
this guy had me in stitches
How does it if you are singing in Minor or Major??? It doesnt have an input for the guitar!
Hi Tama Korewha. The Harmony is based on the Key you choose for a particular Preset. It's not based on an external source (such as guitar chords). @PHeMoX I just got the Neptune pitcher with Reasonrecord and find it's not as easy to use as I thought, unless my voice is SO bad that even a pitch adjuster can't help it!
Definetely BOSS, for the looping feature (not available on EH) and the pedal-design, useful for guitar players.
Does anyone know what amp you need to fit the boss ve20 pedal. You know so that when you play an instrument the actual sound can come out as these don’t have built in speakers do they. Thanks

Sweetwater ok I think it’s that last one you mentioned I need then. I was thinking about a Roland street cube or something
Sweetwater I don’t suppose you have a link to the last thing you mentioned there do you ? The 1/4 to 1/8 endings
excellent job now I know what this processor can do.. Im buyin one!
One of these days...
@MrMusicMaXimum

Great Job Daniel
Great job. Sounds terrific
thanks for the video! is it have a robot effect vocoder?
Is there an aplication for this to be used running my guitar thru it?
That all very nice. But how do you toggle between effects while you're singing?
For those who want sounds more similar to the sounds from "Good Vibrations" by the Beach Boys, they need an electro-theremin (a Tannerin).
mr. fisher, you keep giving me g.a.s..
kudos
is it possible to have numerous effects enabled at the same time ie distortion + flanger + doubler, or is it one effect at a time (excluding the layering of the looping function of course)?
great demo thanks
Things took a turn in the robot setting 😂
yeah this could be used in a studio it has many out puts that can go direct into a mix your recording.... AND i WANT ONE OF THESE

@luciferrrrr that would be a Theremin its pretty cool
@aorphia Where did u find it for that price?
HOLY SHIT!
I need to get this pedal and the theremin!!
I have had this for years but I am trying to get the Mr Tambourine Byrds harmony and for some reason I can't seem to, anyone any advice?
@MrMusicMaXimum

thats what I wanna know.
that was a fucki.... freaking HELPFULL video of this pedal. the best video for that pedal on utube. great job and thanks . the only thing i really dont like on it is that you cant change the frequencies if im right. :/
can i hook this up to a usb recording device then that recording device to my pc and record it? and can i use it for skype and stuff like that?
is it possible to do low range vocal pitch change as one of the settings? A.K.A "chopped and screwed"?
I've got this what I cannot understand is how can you play an acoustic guitar and sing just standard harmonies with yourself without the mic picking up what the guitar is doing and then it sounds terrible? also when I just try to get standard two part harmonies with my recorded lead vocal it has some sort of weird harmony instead of just the 3td. and 5th. Hi do you know which speakers you need to hear sound please for this pedal?
I NEED ONE!!!!! AMAZING!
6:22 "I'm not a beatboxer..." stop been so modest lol
How does the VE20 compare with the TC Voicelive GTX? Features, performance, quality?
can i do the harmony the same way with the Boss VE-5 i just bought....and how?how did you invert ect???
You just reminded me of that very cool Pink Floyd Song :D
Hi, would I be able to connect a SENNHEISER ew 100 wireless microphone earpiece to the VE-20? I connected the VE-20 and there is a lot of distortion.

can this be used in studio
Does it need Power speakers ECT to work ??
Hello thank you very much for the video i am a beatboxer i just want to start with looping it is it a good looping station for it and Thanx.
That was great. Superstar.
