Not sure about that - he really didn't play with him that much as the season went by . It was very obvious last season that he was well received on the team and was having a really good time playing hockey again. Sure he and Debrincat are best friends but I am pretty sure the entire red wings organization under Steve Yzerman are the more significant draw. And if they are going to get Jacob Trouba on top of that should put a little fear of god into opponents . Red Wings have been incredibly soft for a long, long time. Seeing opponents just dummy players like Larkin, or Raymond repeatedly and teammates do not defend them is disgusting. I read Nikita Zadorov talking about a dangerous high hit he put on Raymond last season - he said he didn't do it on purpose - but admittedly nearly took his head off - He said he was ready to be attacked by his teammates but no one did anything - he got suspended for two games for the hit but It validated what I have been saying for years now. Kane needs ro rehab another year, he's a beast and still has a few great years left in him. One more year in Detroit gives him that rehab, a chance to shine as Showtime once more again and then he can move on to a Stanley Cup contender next year. The Wings are at least a decade out from that, hopefully not, but with veterans being shuffled around to make cap room and Detroit making it "look like" theyre going to have to rely on their rookie corps, it could take that long...
A decade out....so you're saying pretty much everyone in the pipeline and currently playing are gunna be retired or at the end of their careers? That's such a bad estimate, you didn't know a couple years ago we would have cat and Kane, you have no clue past 3 or 4 years what's going to happen.
@rickpeters9174 with the trade today, things may be a bit better, but since I've been watching the Wings for 59 years, I have a better grasp than those who tuned in in the 90s. If you recall, we had a drought of nearly sixteen years between '67 to '83, with only 2 playoff appearances. Some teams since the salary cap have had less than 2 appearances. But it's not just about making the playoffs, it's about finishing the playoffs with 16 wins. Sure, we may make the playoffs, but being there after the first round is going to be difficult. I hope all hopes that 3 or 4 years is sufficient, but Dylan Larkin deserves a cup, and if he decides to go to a team that is cup bound, I'll cheer for him. I'll be satisfied with a first rounder, and then a second in another year, but the road is paved with high turnover and more injuries. Players don't last as long with today's fast game, and there's less respect for players than before. I'll wager a bit on 3 or 4 to the conference championship, but a solid team is a no bettor with so many teams and so few franchise players.
