Even though I thought it wouldn’t last, I appreciate Kaner for coming to this team and revitalizing it so to speak. I knew it was a longshot that he would come back, but man am I happy. Not sure about that - he really didn't play with him that much as the season went by . It was very obvious last season that he was well received on the team and was having a really good time playing hockey again. Sure he and Debrincat are best friends but I am pretty sure the entire red wings organization under Steve Yzerman are the more significant draw. And if they are going to get Jacob Trouba on top of that should put a little fear of god into opponents . Red Wings have been incredibly soft for a long, long time. Seeing opponents just dummy players like Larkin, or Raymond repeatedly and teammates do not defend them is disgusting. I read Nikita Zadorov talking about a dangerous high hit he put on Raymond last season - he said he didn't do it on purpose - but admittedly nearly took his head off - He said he was ready to be attacked by his teammates but no one did anything - he got suspended for two games for the hit but It validated what I have been saying for years now. With Jacob Trouba on their blueline - those days would be over.

    Had a feeling he would stay. He’s familiar with Michigan already from his youth hockey days, it’s easy for his dad to travel to games, playing with Debrincat, how the season ended last year and all the momentum the team had. I think it was probably an easy decision for him, he just wanted to see what other teams were offering. Just my view on it.

    We missed the playoffs by 1 point. We have some really good young guys coming up this year. We have the second best prospect pool in the NHL, and that's without lottery luck. Best defensemen prospects, too. Had it not for Larkin getting injured for 20 games and a few other players getting hurt, we make the playoffs. Edvinsson will play this year, and possibly Danielson or Casper. People are really sleeping on Nate Danielson(9th overall pick). Bedard was asked who was the toughest player he played against? His answer? Nate Danielson. Imo, his game is similar to Larkins.

    Kane needs ro rehab another year, he's a beast and still has a few great years left in him. One more year in Detroit gives him that rehab, a chance to shine as Showtime once more again and then he can move on to a Stanley Cup contender next year. The Wings are at least a decade out from that, hopefully not, but with veterans being shuffled around to make cap room and Detroit making it "look like" theyre going to have to rely on their rookie corps, it could take that long...

      A decade out....so you're saying pretty much everyone in the pipeline and currently playing are gunna be retired or at the end of their careers? That's such a bad estimate, you didn't know a couple years ago we would have cat and Kane, you have no clue past 3 or 4 years what's going to happen.

    • @puckhndler
      @puckhndler 2 місяці тому

      @rickpeters9174 with the trade today, things may be a bit better, but since I've been watching the Wings for 59 years, I have a better grasp than those who tuned in in the 90s. If you recall, we had a drought of nearly sixteen years between '67 to '83, with only 2 playoff appearances. Some teams since the salary cap have had less than 2 appearances. But it's not just about making the playoffs, it's about finishing the playoffs with 16 wins. Sure, we may make the playoffs, but being there after the first round is going to be difficult. I hope all hopes that 3 or 4 years is sufficient, but Dylan Larkin deserves a cup, and if he decides to go to a team that is cup bound, I'll cheer for him. I'll be satisfied with a first rounder, and then a second in another year, but the road is paved with high turnover and more injuries. Players don't last as long with today's fast game, and there's less respect for players than before. I'll wager a bit on 3 or 4 to the conference championship, but a solid team is a no bettor with so many teams and so few franchise players.

    • @chevelle1
      @chevelle1 2 місяці тому +1

      @@puckhndler🎯 Well put. Also, Alot of fans (mostly younger ones) get so excited about prospects, having them penciled into certain lines, etc. These kids have never even played with men before. Juniors is light years below the AHL, much less the NHL. It’s taken Stevie 5 years just to “clear the books” and get a good prospect pool going. He walked into a worst case scenario. Depleted draft picks, not much future and a needed rebuild. And what’s worse is we’ve moved down in the draft lottery every year. Our core is just now beginning to take shape. We only have 1 top 2 line center in Larkin. He’s a borderline 1/2C. Compher and Copp are 3C’s on a contending team and neither one are young with more upside to come.
      By the time the Wings are ready to be consistent contenders, the majority of this roster won’t be there to do it. It took Tampa 10 years and that was starting out with Hedman and Stamkos. Granted they had one cup final in there. We have Larkin (who’s no Stamkos), will likely have to be our 2C behind a legit top center (to come?) and Seider (who’s probably the closest we have to a bona fide top franchise player).
      We are still a long ways away. Undersized, albeit very skilled, wingers like Debrincat and Raymond remain to be seen if they can play playoff hockey.
