Good one Debra and Chris, good discussion on the basics of painting, indoors or outdoors. I agree with Chris that the signature should be somewhat legible, even if stylized. Some go overboard, some are pretty minimalistic, like Brian Blood, one of my fave artists from CA, just B B. But you have to have a "name" to get away with it like he has!! LOL. I like to have a scratched in one, on the panel, plein air or alla prima, just as R. Schlorff, pretty much looking as I just typed it here. Also good to have your name on back with some info like location and year of painting so you can track your progress or lack of it in your work!! ;D LOL
I have heard so many times about value and getting all the big shapes in right off the bat…and today, with this demo, it finally gelled for me. Thank you! I plein air paint with watercolors so it’s a little more difficult, I think, but I get it.😊
So happy to hear that the explanations made sense to you. Thanks for the comment and good luck with watercolor. It’s a beautiful medium that takes quite a bit of skill to master.
watching on replay from Yorkshire, England

Loved that high road from SF to Taos, and especially Taos. Truchas very cool.
Gorgeous colors! I just loved the whole process it was so inviting. I’m not sure colors being painted have ever moved me that way, not even my own.
Thanks so much for the comments. I hope it helps you in your work.
I think the distance depicted is quite lovely. The grey greens at the mountain base are wonderful.
Thank you, Linda

I like how your sketch shows the separate sections for the light and shadow areas that helps me as a beginner from the Villages Florida
This was great!
Thanks, Rachel
Great video
Thank you, Christine
Yes learning that if you get your values right at first you are probably going to have a good painting
