I agree with most of what you said but Troy and his splash plays were and are much more entertaining to watch than ed reeds. Let's see ed Reed do a flip over the D line and O line to stuff a QB sneak (more than one occasion btw) and show me a play that takes more athleticism and cerebral awareness of cadence QB snap timing and troys physical timing to start running and jump over that line so perfectly to not be offsides, or touch his own D line and get a penalty for that as well. Those plays are some of the most incredible plays in NFL history. Not to mention his highline real of other jaw dropping athletic plays he's done throughout his career as well. Diving totally laid out and scooping a ball that was literally a quarter inch away from touching the turf and turning that into an interception. The dude was straight up amazing at what he did. And if I juries didn't ruin the second half of his career then who knows what other magic he could have conjured up every Sunday on that football field.
Youre bias, Troy and Ed were neck and neck, one is not better than the other, because a conversation about Troy will always be a conversation about Ed and its the other way around. These two go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly. Tell me otherwise
@@insanemob8508 show ed making plays in the biggest stages, when the team needed their superstar safety to rise to the occasion. Stats are one way of immortalizing players, but seizing the greatest moments, where playmakers transcend to become game changers is another. Troy had those moments, and plenty of it. They are ying and yang, balance.
Those stats are very misleading. For one thing Troy didn't start his rookie year so it's more like 142 games for Troy, 174 for Reed, and secondly Troy had 783 tackles to 646 for Reed, not 531-581 and it also excludes TFL which Troy leads 56-34
Context is important to these stats. Just like you said it’s misleading for Troy these are misleading Ed too. If you watched the film instead of stat watchin, you would know Ed ain’t play in the box as much as troy, considering Ed was a FS most of his career.

Ed Reed has broken records but if you wanna win games and Superbowls just go with Troy. Troy got that Mamba Mentality even Kobe mentioned him in a documentary filmed by Spike. With that being said I'll go with Troy Polamalu
Coming from a Steelers fan there's no wrong answer. These guys played different styles that complimented each other. Troy was a pre-snap mastermind, diagnosing the play and stopping it before it could develop. Then Reed would be there to assist by limiting 1/2 the field the quarterback could throw to. Having fewer options to throw to causing the quarterback to hold it longer, which could then turn in to more sacks by the front 7, or the offense starts running the ball more allowing both Troy and Reed to play up or the quarterback tries to be risky and test Reed, which more often than not results in failure for the QB. When either of these guys played in a game it wasn't a matter if they would make a big play, it was a matter of when they would make it.
Troy without question. Do the averages for their numbers and Ed Reed is barely ahead of Troy in coverage stats but Troy smokes Ed in physical/tackling stats

Jarvis Williams by football player he really means to say that Troy was more versatile as a defender and could fill many roles as a hybrid whereas Ed Reed typically played Free Safety Only. By football player he means that he can line up at more positions and still ball out.
Ed Reed had multiple block punts and punt return for touchdown. Not to mention strip sack fumble. Int's , f.f. for those who thought Ed Reed only played free safety. Ed played games at strong in rookie season too.

@Dustin Platt Bro you're right It's their ignorance Troy being a SS is suppose to have more sacks and tackles than Ed, and Ed being FS is suppose to have more INTs and TDs than Troy but TP only has 3 more forced fumbles and 6 more sacks they both have over 530 tackles (tho Troy has 50 more) so it aint like Ed wasn't cracking dudes and was just a cover guy and it wasn't like Troy wasn't getting picks. You defined it the difference was clearly in their positions.
Troy all day. Ed is good but his int. Numbers are inflated from catching batted balls that the cb would break up. They'd pop right in the air and instead of focusing on the tackle ed would focus on leaching off the work the CB already did. I'm not knocking him at all for it. But most of those ints. We're softballs underhanded right into reeds hands and chest. They weren't coverage ints. Like troys were. When troy was healthy he was hands down the best athlete in the NFL. Highly cerebral as well. Both are great but troy can add so much to your defensive scheme and packages that ed can't. based on that alone troy gets the nod. When Co ordinators gameplan against troy they didn't just have to worry about him down field they had to worry about him downfield, on the line, inside, outside lb positions, blitzing, dropping back, playing man or zone etc etc. Ed reed was an opportunistic ballhawk. That's it
Troy by far! we dominated the ravens in the decade we had Troy and I mean dominate them! dominated our division with Troy. Ed Reed was a bad ass no doubt and both class acts. But Troy played his position as safety so different from anyone I'd ever seen. And when he was hurt Pittsburgh struggled hard without him. He dominated the field
you're wayyy outta line now lol..stats says it all...although they both have rings, troy has more iconic moments as with ed he's had some but most of the time he played how you expected him to. he also exceeds expectations
dasia mathews Rex Ryan and Bill Belichek said Ed Reed is the best safety they ever saw. Rex said he is the greatest safety of all time and it's not even close. Bill said he thinks Ed is the most complete and overall best safety he has ever seen in the NFL
Troy is more versatile. If I had to pick one, I want a guy that can do it all. I also would look at the Ravens-Steelers games and Troy was just so much better in those.
Take Notice I'd like to invite you to leave your opinion on the Ed Reed vs Troy Polamalu debate video I have up on my channel. Hope you can check it out, Thanks!
None of Ed Reed's td come close to Troy's 2008 AFC championship heartbreaker pick 6 for the win against Reed. That game winning pick will be haunt the Ravens forever.
As a ravens fan I liked them both. I have to pick Ed reed though even though Troy Polamalu was an insane safety and I loved every bit of how he played the game. Ed just made me wanna run through a brick wall and ball hawk the football lol
The 1 thing I'll give reed that troy didnt do ..is the special teams blocks...sure ed has more int and tds..troy was more linebacker/safety..and most of Troy's ints..were thefts...jumping routes..while most of reeds were gimmes on over throws..allowing him to set up like a punt returner..just watch the highlights to verify..troy did things ever game no one else could..reed played great free safety and was more of a traditional fs..troy could play fs probably as well..but he was such a menace up close his skill set would be wasted having him play centerfielder fs
If you must compare, Troy played fewer games and all numbers except INT are higher. Troy was hurt they were a beatable team, when he played Teams had to design plays just to go against him. Not really comparable. TP43 probably the biggest game changer since Mean Joe.
Truth is that of Troy switched and roamed the secondary as much as Ed, he would produce those interceptions and TDs. We all know how unbelievable Tryouts Troy’s hand and instinct was. But Troy ran a legitimate 4.3 and Ed ran a 4.58. Troy was much faster, and well stronger to boot. The truth is Troy could Play the way Ed did, but Ed could not play the way Troy did.
The bottom line is they were both great but when the games mattered most between the Steelers and Ravens, Troy made more impactful plays than Ed Reed. And that's one of the main reasons the Steelers won more games against the Ravens when they played back then.
This is an argument that cant be decided, we can make a case both men but it'll just be a long and unresolved back and forth. The fact of the matter is u cannot initiate talks about Ed without bringing Troy into the conversation and the same thing goes vice versa. These two go hand in hand end of discussion
Id take Troy Polamalu over Ed Reed because he was extremely intellectual. It seemed like he knew where every play was going to be. He also had very key moments in very key games. Troy made huge plays in the postseason, Im sure Raven fans know too well. Much respect for Ed Reed though, complete ball hawk.
No no no, Ed was intellectual too. It has been mentioned by all time greats and coaches that the intellect he had for the game was something they’ve never seen. His study habits and ability to know where plays were going were some of the greatest of all time, according to coaches, and players who played with or against him. Ed also had big time plays in big time games. INTS, punt returns, blocked kicks, he could do it all and he’s one of the hardest hitters ever.
40+ year Steelers fan here. Troy had 4-5 outstanding years and lived off his rep the last 4 years of his career. Ed Reed was a beast. Smart, fast and fearless. He had longer better career. The only person I would ever chose over Ed Reed would be Rod Woodson, the best DB in NFL history. He accounted for 123 turnovers in his career 71 INT, 20 FF, 32 FR. NOBODY even comes close.
Troy plays like a crazy person and it works but Ed is way smarter can read QBs head before they even made a decision. Ed plays the position way way WAY better than Troy. Troy just played the lottery most plays with timing Ed used his head
You mean troy had to have Ryan Clark cover for him when he freelance. Ed Reed just had to be right. Not mention Ed Reed had more punt blocks. Also returned a punt return for a touchdown.

Troy all day baby
Sheeeeiittt. Gimme either one. You won't hear my complain. Let's go Steelers
I am not to going to sit here and act like Troy isn't great. He is one of the most physical safeties that has ever played, but Ed Reed has actually broken records and has gotten close to breaking other records. Hes number one all time in interceptions return yards, number 7 all time in interceptions and could have been much higher if he wasn't constantly injured in the 2nd half of his career. I think he is tied for the most postseason interceptions of all time. He has the longest interception td return only to be break it himself again. The most entertaining player to watch on defense in history in my opinion.
kassaiscool I'd like to invite you to leave your opinion on the Ed Reed vs Troy Polamalu debate video I have up on my channel. Hope you can check it out, Thanks!
Ken Cranston , Show Troy taking a punt back for a TD
Youre bias, Troy and Ed were neck and neck, one is not better than the other, because a conversation about Troy will always be a conversation about Ed and its the other way around. These two go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly. Tell me otherwise
@@insanemob8508 show ed making plays in the biggest stages, when the team needed their superstar safety to rise to the occasion. Stats are one way of immortalizing players, but seizing the greatest moments, where playmakers transcend to become game changers is another. Troy had those moments, and plenty of it. They are ying and yang, balance.
Love the way these guys are using injuries as a factor on the positive side.
Troy 💯
Man I'll take them both. They play two different positions. Could you imagine them both on the field at the same time, on the same team!

Ed Reed has broken records but if you wanna win games and Superbowls just go with Troy. Troy got that Mamba Mentality even Kobe mentioned him in a documentary filmed by Spike. With that being said I'll go with Troy Polamalu
I'm taking ed reed. Can't go wrong with either tho.
Raven fan here. I agree no wrong answer. We could argue till the cows come home but they were both awesome.
It really depends on what the defensive scheme is

Troy without question. Do the averages for their numbers and Ed Reed is barely ahead of Troy in coverage stats but Troy smokes Ed in physical/tackling stats
False

5 sacks and 30 tackles is not more productive than 32 ints and quadruple the int return yards. And I haven't even started on kick returns, punt returns and blocks. Do YOUR reaearch kid. 🤣🤡🤡

Ok I like troy too, but this level of assessment is so stupid. They're on 52 man teams. Just looking at their record is ridiculous.
No comparison. Troy could play both safety positions! GOAT!!!
2 completely different players. Ed is a bigger cornerback and troy is a faster and quicker linebacker
ED had torn sprained Mcls on Both knee's during the Superbowl
There will never be another Troy. I love Ed but Troy was so unique. He did it all.
Ed reed was amazing but Troy was just a better football player
Lol you're fucking crazy!!!!
Jarvis Williams by football player he really means to say that Troy was more versatile as a defender and could fill many roles as a hybrid whereas Ed Reed typically played Free Safety Only. By football player he means that he can line up at more positions and still ball out.
Ed Reed was a great safety but overall Troy did way more
Negative.

That's it
I want both
TROY ALL THE WAY GAME CHANGER VICIOUS
Reed was even more of a game changer
I've read alot of everyone comments...so far Troy Palamalu has got most of the votes. The fans have spoken...TROY!!!
Ed was in the NFL to do one job, is to play back field.....Troy was in the NFL to play football, hebwas every where...so there you go.
Troy was more instinct and reflexes. Ed reed was more study film and execute what he saw on tape.
Ones a better run stopper, ones better at coverage.
Ask Peyton Manning & Tom Brady who the better safety is? They was always worried about where Ed Reed was
Troy all the way
Troy by far! we dominated the ravens in the decade we had Troy and I mean dominate them! dominated our division with Troy.
Id like to hear Ed Reed's thoughts on Troy's 2008 AFC championship heartbreaker intercept.
Ed was a free safety and Troy was a strong. That's the difference.
Idk...I grew up watching both of them for over a decade.and to me, it was definitely Ed Reed, bros.
Troy was like a Jesus..but Ed was like the GOD
That is a good (Evaluation) both player like that i should had seen that in them 2 👍
As a ravens fan I liked them both.
You can't compare great to great
Troy all Day
Troy polamalu
If you must compare, Troy played fewer games and all numbers except INT are higher. Troy was hurt they were a beatable team, when he played Teams had to design plays just to go against him. Not really comparable. TP43 probably the biggest game changer since Mean Joe.
Um, Lawrence Taylor? You must not be a football historian. 😂😂
All the other numbers were higher cuz troy played strong safety
I agree there is no wrong answer.
#TroyPolamalu
Truth is that of Troy switched and roamed the secondary as much as Ed, he would produce those interceptions and TDs. We all know how unbelievable Tryouts Troy’s hand and instinct was. But Troy ran a legitimate 4.3 and Ed ran a 4.58. Troy was much faster, and well stronger to boot. The truth is Troy could Play the way Ed did, but Ed could not play the way Troy did.
Ones a free safety ones a safety not the same position technically so as far a overall defense them two on the same field
polamalu
The bottom line is they were both great but when the games mattered most between the Steelers and Ravens, Troy made more impactful plays than Ed Reed. And that's one of the main reasons the Steelers won more games against the Ravens when they played back then.
They played two different positions. You can’t really compare them.
Compare Troy with Dawkins, they where the same type of players
A Steeler/FSU giving unbiased opinion on Wd Reed ??? Nah I’m Good !
It has got to be the hair
This is an argument that cant be decided, we can make a case both men but it'll just be a long and unresolved back and forth. The fact of the matter is u cannot initiate talks about Ed without bringing Troy into the conversation and the same thing goes vice versa. These two go hand in hand end of discussion
they play 2 different positions...no comparisons

Troy 💯 love B Mc 🖤💛🖤💛
