Gadget John Hi 👋🏼 Gadget John. I was wondering if by any chance you had got your hands on the Nextbase 612GW Dashcam that offers 4k resolution. Saw the above vid on the 512 but was wondering if you had any opinions on whether I shud go 4 that or 612? Please can you help?

Ordered a 312 a few days ago before I saw this review. Hopefully it will do the job but 512 does look better. Maybe I should have waited for a black Friday deal :-)

I have one of these and I'm having an issue with playback. I have tried connecting with the supplied USB and putting the memory
card in the PC card reader slot. Using the Nextbase Playback 3 software, the footage is very jerky. Viewing footage in the camera is fine. I do have a couple of HD video cameras and they play back perfectly ok.
Just wondering if there is a tweak I can do when trying to view the dash cam footage with the NextBase replay 3.

Does anyone know what is, for example, the main difference between the 512GW and the 522GW models? I know 522GW is newer but still need to know... I mean, it looks like they improved each of the models: 312GW -> 322GW; 412GW -> 422GW; 512GW -> 522GW and finally the 612GW -> 622GW.

Bought me of these last month decent playback on I phone.had to send it back no good was making a constant bleeping noise ,customer services were great.wasnt impressed for the money I paid,cheaply made Chinese product i personally thought the build was poor ,when I also turned the polarising filter it fell off.looking for something better regardless of cost.the shops are making a packet on these ,coppers to make certainly arnt worth 150 pound didn’t get another one, though mine could of just been the odd faulty one

Yes, use any mobile phone with a data sim inside, get a dashcam app and set it to record to your camera folder, then have your phone auto sync your camera folder to a cloud account. 🤓

I just bought one of those today, With Default Resolution it will not read a Number Plate? at any distance... my basic cheap Dash cam will, i also have the problem it records 2 Files for each clip, a low and High, taking up space, there is nothing on the High, only the low, ive read the CD but i still dont understand how to download/record 1 file, for each clip, i don`t need this Hi and low rubbish in my life.., makes it hard to find a particular clip, with all those Files.. can you help me, so i only have 1 File per Clip...
The 1440 Resolution on my camera is great, I can read reg plates as you can see from this video. The Hi & Lo recordings are because the cameras is WiFi enabled so you can instantly download videos to your smartphone should you want to share a video of an accident with someone, you can do it there and then by using the LOW file type.
Will Disable Wifi then, i dont use that, maybe i will not get so many files now, i also had to download Quick time Viewer, as my Windows 7 Will not play those types of files, the previous Dash Cam Model were a different Format Files , easy to view, and i could delete the unwanted files easy, this type of file from this new Cam will not play or Delete on my Windows 7 Computer , going to get shot of this new Camera, going back to the Next base 302G it gave me no Trouble with Strange files, also the Camera is more Crisp, the Angle of view is narrower , but the clarity is better on the 302g
after having 2 x 612GW and 4 x 512GW i am having the wiring which Halfords put in to my car removed and rewired for a new camera...absolute rubbish as not even Next Base boffins could solve my problem ...Don't bother

+john sired I'll try my best. Have you got your settings on 1080 or 1440? What would you say is the reason why your videos aren't as good quality as in my video?
I have it on 1440. When I download a video to my iPhone you can’t read the car number plates & the picture is fuzzy when you zoom in on it I had no trouble with my 412.
+john sired I think the issue is with the phone app, if you take the micro sd card from the dash cam and view the video files on your computer are the videos the quality you expect?
+john sired It looks the dash cam records a low-res and high-res video simultaneously and then uses the low-res video for playback on the dash cam screen and the Wi-Fi transfer. So access to the high-res video is only possible by accessing the micro sd card.
I agree, the video footage is poor, I have a £40 action cam that gives much better and clearer footage. I have had loads of times that I cant read the number plate of other cars that were 20 feet away. The polarising filter is a good idea, however it rotates itself and most of the time is useless. The touch screen buttons are a pain, they either dont work or you press another button, also if you need to turn the camera, 50% of the time you cant avoid stopping the video and losing the footage due to where the touch area is. My wife has the 312 and the buttons are much better, but I guess its cheaper to manufacture these without the real buttons. Overall this camera is not worth the money.
Hi, does the camera rotate? Or is it stuck facing forwards?
I guess you can turn it round. Never tried it that way but the fixings are very flexible.

He didn't mention the upcoming rear camera facility. Soon the 512GW will be able to be connected to to a rear dashcam.
On purpose really, I can't review what I haven't tested. Once the additional rear camera is available I might buy it and then review it. Keep watching.
I'm on Nextbase mailing list for an update when it becomes available. Even so you could have left your audience hanging with a juicy tidbit :-)
I've heard that these cameras suffer a range of problems. From poor battery life, to not recognising sd cards and constant requests to format sd cards after between a couple of months to ten months. Has anyone had these issues with theirs and if so did nextbase offer any help or replacement?
Battery life is a mute point, you wouldn’t ever use a dash cam unless it was plugged into 12v / usb.
All SD memory cards should be formatted at least monthly. This helps to prevent corruption of the card. I have a high end DSLR and format my memory card after I've downloaded all my image files to my PC ..
Thanks for the replies both. Sorry I haven't replied til now I was only notified of this new comment. I have decided to go with the nextbase 412gw. I purchased it probably not long after seeing this review. So far it is going well. It has been hardwired so the battery won't be an issue. I regularly format the card (once a fortnite as per the instructions) hopefully it will provide trouble free recording. Thanks again for the replies.

Hi, I've not tried that as I have a van that has no rear window.
Gadget John shame. Its really hard to find anyone that has attempted it. I want a front and rear camera setup. Thought nextbase would be good. But they are taking the piss in releasing the rear camera for the 512GW
You could always just use a Nextbase 112 Dash Cam in the rear window, it has AV out, so you could link that to the 512?
Gadget John the 512 doesnt have a av input...only hdmi or micro usb i believe
Maybe just use the 112 on it's own, is pretty cheap too. But there are others on ebay offering 1080p which are quite good.

There is a very clear example in the video of how the filter works.
@@GadgetJohn And it clearly states the footage of the polarising action is taken from a DSLR camera + Lens + Polarising filter. Not from the 512GW itself. Kind of meaningless really.
It’s odd people have no idea of what polarising filter is, I give an example but you lot think the dash cam will be different. If I showed you how a light works would you still expect every light to be demonstrated? It’s a polarising filter guys!!!!! They all work the exact same way on ANY camera.
The dashcam should not obscure the windscreen so you need to put it out of the way, behind the mirror perhaps, with these over-sensitive buttons that are very fickle any attempt to move the cam or press any button causes wrong button presses which lead to stopped recording, changing from video to photo etc so you have to stop to sort it out. I have fed this back before, but evidently, it's cheaper to produce these so usability has been sacrificed for profit on newer models.
Please STOP that bloody boom boom boom noise, remember some viewers are Autistic or have mental health issues and don't want that noise, shame A1 vid
