- Here's a random sampling of promos that aired on the Disney Channel throughout the 80's and early 90's.
1. The Best In Family Entertainment
2. Coming Up Next: "Welcome To Pooh Corner" (Another show I watched fairly regularly as a kid. Watching anything from it these days gives me nightmares for weeks)
3. Disneyland Celebrates 35 Years Of Magic (Featuring Mickey's Mouseorail)
4. Dateline Disney (Hayley Mills and "The Parent Trap III")
5. Coming Up Next: "Shipwreck"
6. "The New Mickey Mouse Club" Special Talent Contest
7. Promo for "The New Mickey Mouse Club"
8. Promo for "The New Mickey Mouse Club"
9. Disney Channel Magazine "Avonlea"
10. Special Presentation Bumper
11. Coming Up Tonight... (These aren't really necessary when the only schedule you have are back-to-back 10 hour marathons of tween sitcoms)
its weird to realize how influential those little sequences like the "window" bump at the end of this clip, were. Its freaky how quickly that puts me back. Thank you for posting this.
If look at this, then turn on Disney Channel today, the major difference is is apparent. Back then, the programming was geared more towards families, meaning it was to kids and parents. There would also be concert specials and such for the adults. The layout was also more classy. Now, Disney Channel's almost strictly geared to kids.
love that shot of the old Disneyland entrance at 2:42. I miss it that way.
Random factoid: after that sign was torn down, John Stamos bought it when they auctioned it on eBay.
Star Wars playing on the Disney Channel is pretty funny considering they own the franchise nowadays.
When you watch the "Next On" transition-segment at around 9:15, it's so elegant and understated. Today, it'd be like, "NEXTUPCOOLAWESOMECOOLMANYEAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!"
Remember when this channel use to be commercial free?
Harvey Franklin omg it went down hill after that. Made for cable movies were horrible!
It still is. There are no advertisements unless Disney related
I miss the old Disney Channel :(
I remember all of this! This was back when The Disney Channel was a premium network, and my parents couldn't afford it at the time, but each year, they'd have a free preview, and I'd watch the hell out of it! I remember the "Avonlea" series and when "Parent Trap III" was released, and all that! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
In this aria of time it was starting to be what it is now slowly they did it, But they still showed different shows in curtain part of the day. Like cartoons after school hours, family shows during dinner time, teen shows mid evenings then adults shows later at night before they do the sign off thing. In between they had Date line Disney, D-TV and all other cool stuff they did to make it magical and it really made want to be at the parks.
The announcer for these bumpers had such an amazing voice! ^^
His name was Jerry Bishop. He also served as announcer for Judge Judy for over 20 years. Unfortunately he died in 2020. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Bishop
shame. he had a great voice
9:50 - 9:56 Also, it's rather neat to see the Disney "animated anthologies" - in this case, _"Melody Time"_ - have exposure on TV *in their original complete feature film form,* before Disney released them on video.
Disney Channel needs to bring back MMC.
I miss the mystery of not knowing if shows were gonna be any good but having not much choice in what to watch.
The music used in the "Special Presentation" bumper at 9:01, is titled "Join the Fun", composed by Craig Palmer for Network Music. Here it is in it's entirety. ua-cam.com/video/vCMYmGoZUjo/v-deo.html
@MeInTX Welcome To Pooh Corner (And Dumbo's Circus as well) used full sized costumes with animatronic faces. In retrospect...definitely creepy...but I enjoyed the hell out of those shows as a kid.
It's funny - thank to Disney Channel showing Star Wars back then and Star Tours being at Disneyland, I thought Star Wars actually was owned by Disney. Turns out I was just off by a few decades.
George Lucas and Michael Eisner worked together on “Raiders Of The Lost Ark” when Eisner was president of Paramount. When Eisner moved over to manage Disney that relationship helped him bring Lucas properties to the theme parks and TV networks.
I saw Shipwrecked at the movies a long time ago.
When The Disney Channel was actually watchable!!! Oh how I wish I could go back to the early 90's!!!
It's fun to think there was a time when people could watch an unaltered version of Pecos Bill this way!
The Disney Channel also used to play the Pecos Bill segment by itself to pad out the breaks between shows/movies
80sCommercialVault Yep, I recall Make Mind Music also aired on TDC with the deleted segment too!
AFIAK the only alterations made to an animated Disney film prior to the late 90's was to remove the black centaurette in Fantasia: i.imgur.com/LJTGyDU.jpg which was done at some point in the 60's (comments by Deems Taylor were also edited down from the original release). Everything aired on the Disney Channel besides that was complete and unedited.
80sCommercialVault I know, nobody had a problem with gun-toting hillbillies or cigarette ropin' cowboys!
Christopher Sobieniak or bouncy bottomed chick that all guys wanted to be with
That said you would think they do this now to get more people to go to their park HELLOOOO!
I never realised that Disney Channel was so good back then. Until now
Was Welcome to Pooh Corner the puppet show? And is it embarrassing to admit I'm looking forward to the new animated movie this summer?
Given the sheer amount of talent that came out of the 80s/90s incarnation of the Mickey Mouse Club, I'm kind of shocked that Disney hasn't tried to revive it over the last 15 years or so.
Speaking of talent, Patricia Hamilton was certainly right about Sarah Polley.
Tonight on the Disney channel: 7 episodes of Shake It Up! (whatever that is).
I LOVED Parent Trap III. I wish Disney would release the movie on DVD.
I'm surprised that Melody Time was shown on The Disney Channel in the early 90's. At least it was shown uncut unlike the 1998 VHS release and the 2000 DVD and VHS release.
Well they are too young to remember what Disney channel was like back years ago. When they get older the Disney channel they know will be classic to them.
3:31 is Patricia Richardson from "Home Improvement"
It's a "Saved By the Bell" obscure reference reunion! Miss Bliss' Hayley Mills and 4:21 I think is the same girl who played "Tori" the last year of SBTB
that first mickey mouse club commercial gives me a headache.
ahh, yes. this was back when people had to WRITE in to enter a contest. not email or upload a video. the voice is annoying, too
that "coming up next" promo is the coolest
How Ironic. They own it now!
Star Wars on the Disney channel? . How random.
Yeah, and I hate it to no end. God, they need to stop, take a look and what they have now and then, and see just how much values they have lost going where they are now.
They need to go back to this old format. Because it was what made this channel so good.
Agree.
Why doesn't Disney show good shows like this anymore? WHY!?
Because as time has passed by, people have seen how technology and treatments for at least some disorders can work better, but they still haven’t generally leveled up their own knowledge enough to discover further talent. I have with HAPPYneuron after taking a survey that convinced me to look for educational brain games!
Does Anyone Collect Those Old The Disney Channel Magazines In 2020?
I have several. Mostly ones from 1985.
I wish I would have saved all my Disney Channel Magazines 😵
11/2/22
9:31 need to know the name of this song let me know if you know it
It's music created specifically for the Disney Channel. I doubt that it even has a name.
Disney Maybe crap now but I am hoping now that Anne Sweeney is gone it can get it can transform into something better.
Isn't that a very young Savion Glover at 5:13?
Yeah, in hindsight, that post of mine doesn't make sense now.
Anyone know the name of the music that is used at 09:18?
It's just the theme music that the Disney Channel used at the time. It was composed for these ads and probably doesn't even have a title.
I figured that but was not sure.
Wish I knew! Brings back good memories...
0.20 - Welp.
9:19 Back when Disney actually had class.
Who could forget kids Incorporated.
Keyword: FAMILY Entertainment.....No longer....now its all aimed at tweens and 3 year olds. I watch Sonny with a Chance & Good Luck Charlie and that's it
