You can basically make use of this for any random encounter, fishing or egg hunt! Just save in front of the painting and click on it once you start your hunting session. Go to the location of your desired target and start hunting. Once your session is over just turn off the game and repeat. This way you would have "true RNG" for your Emerald hunt!
Ah man I am watching this again atm and it's such a great resource. 11 months I wrote that I hadn't shiny hunted yet in Emerald and I went from that to doing double hunts there now. So cheers to you for changing this (not only for me but I bet for a whole lot of others too)!

You would think LJs video years ago would be enough nowadays but still soo many people are weirdly scared of it. There are so many sick hunts in this game. My emerald sudo will forever be one of my favorite hunts. Great video! Emerald hunting deserves more love than it gets.
FYI and handy tip for anyone who see’s YOU CAN Shiny hunt castform you can either reset and do the fight before receiving it or literally fill your PC box’s up completely and the guy who gives you it will hold onto until you make space which will enable to to save in front of the guy before getting castform SO you can soft reset and shiny hunt the castform in emerald
I just bought a new game boy advance SP and it made me want to replay emerald. I love shiny hunting as it's primarily what I do and most of the games, and I really wanted to shiny hunt in emerald and I remembered that the RNG was different. I'm really excited to hunt with the different RNG, probably going to go for a shiny trapinch in the desert, thank you for the video :3

Great video Oliver! I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but I think you can technically hunt the castform. If you fill up your whole party and every pc box, they won't give you the castform and you can return later with the battle video as far as I'm aware.
Not gonna lie, i was part of that 7.8 of players that feared shiny hunt in emerald, but all that changed when a some weeks ago i found a shiny marill, not enough some freaking weeks after i found a freaking shiny plusle, shiny minum & shiny poochyena, ALL SAME DAY WITH LITERALLY LIKE 30 MIN OF DIFFERENCE. literally i've gone crazy shiny hunting since then, but not gonna lie still not want to shiny hunt any legendary yet, even so, think i have to give a chance to the run away method.Anyways i think i'll stick up SR in R&S becaus there i found my shiny lileep yesterday(His name is Radily Jr. btw).Hope more people hop into shiny hunting in emerald too after this video! keep up the good work!!1!11!(sorry for the long ass comment but i needed to discharge all this imformation somewhere xd)

Hey maybe stupid question but i heard that a dry internal battery will make it impossible to SR in emerald, is that correct? If so, does it mess with other shiny hunt methods too? And are other GBA games affected by this or only emerald?
That's like half true & half wrong information. For Emerald's RNG, the battery does not matter at all! However, for Ruby & Sapphire, if the battery goes dry, the RNG will be the same as Emerald's. Luckily for FRLG, they don't have internal batteries and therefore no battery problems that could occur. Hope that helps!
Yes, in Emerald the battery does not affect the RNG. This is different to Ruby Sapphire but in Emerald you can always hunt no matter the status of the battery.

Does the runaway method work if you battle, faint a Pokemon, and choose 'No' when asked 'Use next Pokemon?' or does that interaction lock it to be the same Pokemon every time?
Hi I have a question I'm trying to get shiny Rayquaza in GBA in emerald at the moment no luck can Rayquaza be my first shiny or do i have to obtain a shiny already to obtain a shiny Rayquaza?
You can definitely go for Rayquaza first, anything can be shiny and you don't have to get any shiny to "unlock" other shinies. Each Pokémon is basically independent from others, if that makes sense. :)
Currently hunting for a shiny groudon, very good video and everything is well explained. Just one question after doing RA's for one hour straight (at least) should I save the game before turning off the game and continue hunting some other time or it's not necessary to save the game after every hunt sessions? Best of luck on your very first shiny hunt man and welcome to the hobby! It's great that you make sure you do everything correct. To your question - saving or your played hours do not affect the shiny odds. Which means after every hunting session, you could save if you want to keep the playtime accurate, but it's not necessary for the shiny. Do you know if it's possible to shiny hunt Pokemon that are encountered via cheats? For example, if I choose to use an Action Replay code that makes one of the starters the only Pokemon to spawn in the grass, will I be able to run into one that's shiny? I thought of this as an alternative to SRing for the other starters in a second copy of the game and trading them.
Yeah, that's definitely possible! If you switch out the encounter table that actually doesn't do anything to your shiny frames, so you can do that! Just make sure that the cheat code doesn't change anything else and you should be fine.
A dead battery doesn't change Emerald's RNG. So in terms of shiny hunting, any Emerald copy works. Only in Ruby/Sapphire, the RNG changes with dead internal battery (to the same RNG Emerald has). Hope that helps and thanks for the compliment!
There's only one thing I'm scared about. I play on an emulator and I don't know if speeding up the game (with the fast forward option integrated in the emulator) will affect shiny frames in any way. Does anyone know this? I don't want to waste my time shiny hunting wrong
I never played Emerald on emulator and don't have experience with emulators, but knowing how the game itself works I am 99% sure that speeding up the game also speeds up the frames. However, you don't need to fear anything here either, because you speed up the game and speed up the frames with the same factor, so in reality nothing changes.
That is a really good point! The problem with Emerald is that Formeo will be automatically sent to your pc but if your party AND pc is full, it would make sense if you can pick it up later as it's the case in R/S. Because the only other situation would be softlocking yourself in the Weather Institut and I don't think that's gonna happen. I would need to try that out! Maybe I will do that once I have some more free time.
Just got a shiny mudkip in emerald after just 7 trainer IDs. I was wondering about random encounters, since I want to build a full shiny team and I was feeling kinda nervous about them, but this video is very reassuring!
Shiny hunting is definitely worth it in Emerald - let me give you some neat facts you probably didn't know yet (otherwise you wouldn't have said that it's not worth it): 1) Even tho the RNG is different, 95% of the shiny hunts are performed the SAME way as in other gen 3 games (hunting basically feels the same way like RE's, egg hunts, fishing etc). 2) Emerald has some absolutely insane exclusive targets like wild Charizard, Blastoise, Johto starters, Mew, Deoxys, Shedinja, Gengar, Alakazam, Scizor... The list goes on. 3) The Hoenn starters in Emerald are almost *double* as fast as compared to Ruby/Sapphire due to how the shiny frames & uncatchable Zigzagoon works. 4) Since Emerald is the first game that has outside of battle ability effects like Suction Cups or Flame Body, emerald is actually the *best* gen 3 game to do any fishing or egg hunts in. 5) Due to the RNG, you can choose if you prefer run aways or soft resets via BV method. That gives you more variety as the other gen 3 games where you just have the option to see the title screen over and over again via SR's. Tell me again it's not worth to hunt in Emerald 🙂
I played +300 hours on my emerald and never saw a shiny. Actually, I played sapphire twice, ruby, leaf green and emerald and only saw 1 shiny. The uncatchable zigzagoon in sapphire.

Same here! I can never really decide which one get's my No.1 spot but SS and Emerald are my favorite games! And yes you're right! You can't find Pokeballs in the Battle Pyramid, which means the shinies are uncatchables. However, you can use the Pomeg Berry glitch to bring in your own items such as Pokeballs! I did that with my Emerald copy and caught a shiny Kingdra & shiny Charizard from there. In Emerald: No. The battery does nothing to the RNG in Emerald, shiny hunting works the same with and without working battery. Just keep in mind that this is different for Ruby/Sapphire - if the battery is dry on those games their RNG turns into the Emerald RNG.
@@XPY5 Every encounter, but as you saw in the video, everything except soft resets works pretty much the same in terms of how you perform the hunts. You can still completely normally hunt random encounters or similar stuff even with dry battery.
Do you know any good places to buy a legitimate version of the game? There's loads of fake ones on Amazon, and my country is too small to have a consistent flow of them to buy from
Yeah amazon is usually not very good when it comes to older games that are out of production. Your best bet would be eBay or maybe even Facebook Marketplace / any local fleamarket app. You'll find many fake copies around at eBay as well, but a little trick can filter out many of them: If you search for Pokemon Emerald i.e., you can set the price to "at least 25$", which will filter out the majority of fakes since most are being sold for around 10-24$. If you want to buy at eBay, make sure to always check the front and back of the cartridge so you can make sure it's an authentic one. I personally don't buy from people who don't make good pictures. Or you can ask the seller for more pictures! I hope that helps a bit!
Thanks man! Unless Ruby&Sapphire, the battery in Emerald does not affect its RNG. So with or without working battery, you can do any shiny hunts as usual.

@@pokeaaapvp4660 So basically for egg hunting, the only difference is behind the scenes in the games code in Ruby Sapphire vs. Emerald, but the process of egg hunting itself is the same. Emerald is the best choice tho because Flame Body and Magma Armor didn't work in Ruby/Sapphire yet, so hatching eggs is always faster in Emerald. Also thanks man!
i had gotten a shiney zigzagoon to apear on my 289th soft reset trying to get a shiney torchic, but i went ontill i hit 300 then reset with a new save. if i had known that by getting a shiney zigzagoon to apear that it meant my shiney torchic whould be apearing soon i whouldnt have made a new save file. all well. just another 2k plus resets to go!

@@OliverMKP Yea I caught it and it’s in my Pokémon Diamond game wherever it’s in my house On that same save file I got a random shiny clefairy, did the SRs for Driftloon, and a random shiny Onix (steelix) from my platinum save file. Needless to say I’m gonna cherish that game forever once I find it
I downloaded several emulator’s to play all the old cartridge Pokémon games going back to 2012/2013. I’ve played R/S/E countless times and I can honestly tell you over the course of 10 years playing casually & resetting, I’ve encountered exactly 1 shiny Pokémon ever about 3 years ago. F**king Tentacool 🤦♂️
Yeah it's definitely possible to get it randomly, just not possible to actively hunt it (unless you fill your team and all of your boxes with Pokémon so you can postpone the gift event until you got access to the Battle Video method). Congratulations on yours!
@@Delayeed9 for a machine yes, but as a human it's not really possible to avoid hitting the same frames over and over again, in addition to that it'd be an exponential growth of time where you need to wait before receiving it, so that's why it's recommended to just hunt it via eggs or with full boxes instead of that. :)

Fastest way would probably RE's in the desert as RE's in gen3 are pretty fast! Work with Illuminate and White Flute to increase encounter rate! :)

I would recomment hunting one of the regis in emerald if its your first time. They have a really small way for run away encounters

Yeah that would work as well, since you essentially run away when you say "no". But just running away immediately is a bit faster.

I hunted a shiny starter with rng munipulation. it took days with 1-2 hours of hunting to get. mostly for fining my secret id.

Shiny hunting is definitely worth it in Emerald - let me give you some neat facts you probably didn't know yet (otherwise you wouldn't have said that it's not worth it):
1) Even tho the RNG is different, 95% of the shiny hunts are performed the SAME way as in other gen 3 games (hunting basically feels the same way like RE's, egg hunts, fishing etc).
2) Emerald has some absolutely insane exclusive targets like wild Charizard, Blastoise, Johto starters, Mew, Deoxys, Shedinja, Gengar, Alakazam, Scizor... The list goes on.
3) The Hoenn starters in Emerald are almost *double* as fast as compared to Ruby/Sapphire due to how the shiny frames & uncatchable Zigzagoon works.
4) Since Emerald is the first game that has outside of battle ability effects like Suction Cups or Flame Body, emerald is actually the *best* gen 3 game to do any fishing or egg hunts in.
5) Due to the RNG, you can choose if you prefer run aways or soft resets via BV method. That gives you more variety as the other gen 3 games where you just have the option to see the title screen over and over again via SR's.
Tell me again it's not worth to hunt in Emerald 🙂

I played +300 hours on my emerald and never saw a shiny. Actually, I played sapphire twice, ruby, leaf green and emerald and only saw 1 shiny. The uncatchable zigzagoon in sapphire.

And yes you're right! You can't find Pokeballs in the Battle Pyramid, which means the shinies are uncatchables. However, you can use the Pomeg Berry glitch to bring in your own items such as Pokeballs!
I did that with my Emerald copy and caught a shiny Kingdra & shiny Charizard from there.

Does having a dry game battery affect shiny hunting at all?
In Emerald: No. The battery does nothing to the RNG in Emerald, shiny hunting works the same with and without working battery.
Just keep in mind that this is different for Ruby/Sapphire - if the battery is dry on those games their RNG turns into the Emerald RNG.

@@XPY5 Every encounter, but as you saw in the video, everything except soft resets works pretty much the same in terms of how you perform the hunts. You can still completely normally hunt random encounters or similar stuff even with dry battery.
Do you know any good places to buy a legitimate version of the game? There's loads of fake ones on Amazon, and my country is too small to have a consistent flow of them to buy from
Yeah amazon is usually not very good when it comes to older games that are out of production.
Your best bet would be eBay or maybe even Facebook Marketplace / any local fleamarket app.
You'll find many fake copies around at eBay as well, but a little trick can filter out many of them:
If you search for Pokemon Emerald i.e., you can set the price to "at least 25$", which will filter out the majority of fakes since most are being sold for around 10-24$.
If you want to buy at eBay, make sure to always check the front and back of the cartridge so you can make sure it's an authentic one. I personally don't buy from people who don't make good pictures.
Or you can ask the seller for more pictures!

Thanks man! Unless Ruby&Sapphire, the battery in Emerald does not affect its RNG. So with or without working battery, you can do any shiny hunts as usual.

@@pokeaaapvp4660 So basically for egg hunting, the only difference is behind the scenes in the games code in Ruby Sapphire vs. Emerald, but the process of egg hunting itself is the same. Emerald is the best choice tho because Flame Body and Magma Armor didn't work in Ruby/Sapphire yet, so hatching eggs is always faster in Emerald. Also thanks man!
i had gotten a shiney zigzagoon to apear on my 289th soft reset trying to get a shiney torchic, but i went ontill i hit 300 then reset with a new save. if i had known that by getting a shiney zigzagoon to apear that it meant my shiney torchic whould be apearing soon i whouldnt have made a new save file. all well. just another 2k plus resets to go!

On that same save file I got a random shiny clefairy, did the SRs for Driftloon, and a random shiny Onix (steelix) from my platinum save file.
Needless to say I’m gonna cherish that game forever once I find it
I downloaded several emulator’s to play all the old cartridge Pokémon games going back to 2012/2013. I’ve played R/S/E countless times and I can honestly tell you over the course of 10 years playing casually & resetting, I’ve encountered exactly 1 shiny Pokémon ever about 3 years ago. F**king Tentacool 🤦♂️

I got a shiny Castform by playing through Emerald lol so it's possible.
Yeah it's definitely possible to get it randomly, just not possible to actively hunt it (unless you fill your team and all of your boxes with Pokémon so you can postpone the gift event until you got access to the Battle Video method). Congratulations on yours!

@@Delayeed9 for a machine yes, but as a human it's not really possible to avoid hitting the same frames over and over again, in addition to that it'd be an exponential growth of time where you need to wait before receiving it, so that's why it's recommended to just hunt it via eggs or with full boxes instead of that. :)

That's insane, massive congratulations! Definitely one of the coolest emerald shinies you can get since you can't (really) hunt it, just randomly be lucky that you get it on the file you started!
@@OliverMKP I got it through an specific process of RNG, just like most of my shiny mons. I have all their .pk files in my PC and I expect to keep adding more to my collection.
