- Many buhurt fighters are well trained athletes and can defeat almost any harness fencer in their own discipline with through brute force and power. Technique makes little difference if your opponent is stronger and bigger than you, but by no means slower. Niklas Wehrmann is in armor over 2 meters tall and a power athlete. He is a fighter of the german buhurt club Decima and the best knightly model on instagram and also on UA-cam. Check him out!

The guy in red and black may have won, but he certainly won’t be walking away from this fight very comfortably given where all his enemy’s dagger stabs went
It seems like the guy with the warhammer always wins
@@tayloraustin1997he kinda ignores the Stabs in the weak points
@@anthuan2028this always struck me as strange in their duels, why use the rondel if you are ignoring the hits at all?
@@Williazzzz he’s a buhurt fighter, from what I get he’s not used to recognizing imaginary hits
It makes sense to train past those points in the exchange, no all stabs into maille are effective. But the stabs to the armpit and groin looked like they landed solid
Men will see this and say "Hell yeah!"
Women will see this and say "Hell yeah!"
Oh no not the butt stab🤣🤣🤣
Here's my question. If you knew that death was really on the table, that if the other guy gets his dagger free and gets it in you you will die, would you fall into grappling as often? I just feel like in these fights we see this same result over and over because that's how you "win". But you don't win if the other guy is on his back but you have a dagger up to the hilt in your kidneys or lungs. It feels like, regardless of the debatable effectiveness of maces and the like, you would do everything you could not to get into a grapple, because both sides become incredibly vulnerable.
Heavily armoured fights don't get to grapple to win points, they get to grapple because the fighters are too exhausted to keep wrestling with their big weapons. You definitely do what you can to avoid the grapple & to gain maximum advantage when you're in one, but the enemy has a say too... Historically, armoured individuals like these are rare & often valuable, so the downed individual would usually not actually be killed, but taken for ransom.
@@corvanphoenix That's my point. These guys are going to the grapple because they will win the fight that way, I'm suggesting that if you were really playing for keeps you're less likely to go there until you have to and fighting to exhaustion might be a reason why, though if you're that gassed on a battlefield, you might be in trouble regardless of how your knife fight went. That said, these are simulations of duels, not battlefield combat.
Though I think people knew they might be ransomed, I'm sure most of them knew it wasn't a guarantee. I suppose if your planning to yield, or call for surrender, going to daggers might make that more likely, but in the thick of things you're also very likely to get stuck like a pig too, so it's all a gamble I suppose.
@@Lurklen Europeans have this unfortunate pastime of trying to ethnically cleanse one another, leaving fighting to the death as the only option.
@@corvanphoenix Grappling even without armour is way more exhausting than fighting standing up. Those weapons rarely weigh more than 1kg, hardly every more than 2kg when talking two-handed. It is not that difficult to take a resting guard position and then take your time to breath if both you and your opponent are gassed. Grappling on the other hand is a gruesome grindmatch for both, unless you bring it to the ground and secure mount. You definitely don't start grappling because you are out of breath. Only boxers and kickboxers do that because actual grappling is forbidden. That way, they are safe from strikes and get more time to relax when the referee takes his time to separate them.
@Christian-dd2qm I'm not sure where you get your info, but those weights are clearly incorrect. For example, arming swords durable enough to use in recreation combat, weigh ~1.5kg.
Niklas is a fucking beast dude
Beautifully brutal.
Armoured combat = hitting each other with basically anything until you're both exhausted & on the ground, then grabbing your dagger to finish them off. XD
Anyone ever tried to make a spiked shield that would collapse around a mace head / trap it , when it got hit ?. like sword breaker but different .
sounds interesting.
@@dequitem a shield with trappings on the front , a wire net or basket hilt design maybe .
It feels like the difficulty with that would be adding weight and giving more places for the opponent to land square strikes in exchange for maybe disarming him.
Possibly a useful gimmick in sporting duels, but definitely not in real mass combat.
Another excellent duel. I commend your bravery and dedication sir, I would be most hesitant to get hit with a flanged mace or a warhammer lol.
He won that fight for the next four seconds, then bled out from the armpit and thigh stabs.
Ну вроде как поваленный вполне мог затыкать стилетом верхнего?
Проткнул паховую зону(задел артерию) Укол в подмышку тоже опасно.
The last one is hilarious!

Hell yeah
I wonder what century and region the armor is from..
It looks like Italian plate, I think? And I'm guessing from the mid to late 15th century?
Best guess I have.
My armor is a southern German mix. His armor is historical inspired but it seams like a mix of English and Italian armor.
New Sub from colonial New England USA. I would like to see how the armor holds up to a traditional longbow arrow, and a crossbow bolt would make a really cool video! Great content, very exciting! -CT Relic Digger
Uh... pretty sure they guy on the bottom got multiple kill shots in with the dagger before being "knocked out"... I think he should have won....
Pretty sure guy on the top is dead after taking a rondel through the armpit and torso
But he didn't recognize the blunt dagger in that moment to much adrenaline. But I think he would have recognized a real one.
@dequitem haha I'd say so. You earned my sub these videos are truly unique to me.
Some men want one thing and its this.
And i'm one of those men.
Great fight as always. Have you got any rules for this fights or you just bashing each other until someone collapse 😂
Just bashing the shit out of each other. But a flail isn't the best dueling weapon, so we quickly tryed wrestling and dagger fighting.

👍
You could speed these fights up, if you would abandon the weapons and immediately start with the wrestling.😉
But that's not fun to watch and the video was made to prove that maces are garbage!
Finally a breath of fresh air in the current stinking woke world ! ! ! MANHOOD PREVAILS ! ! !
Everything about this was unrealistic. No one would be aiming for the shield with a mace. They would be aiming at the knee. Somewhere that mass can do some damage. Going to climb on top of someone like that that dagger is going into your groin or up your backside.
If you are going to try people what a historical knight fight would have been like at least try to do more research on how they would have fought. This is about as historically accurate as a couple little kids having sword fights with sticks in the back yard.
What the fuck are you talking. No one aims for the shield. If you hit the knee nothing will happen. There are Videos where I bash his knee, it didn't hurt him at all. The only weak point is the head, and that's were you aiming for. You are a couch warrior and never had a helmet on. You know nothing about vision and the effects of armor to a fight. I did my researche and tests on the highest possible level. I know what I talking and show.
Even if there were mistakes in the fight, than it would be fine because it's a fight and not a choreography were everybody knows what he has to do. Humans dio mistakes when they fight. Even real knights!
@@dequitem LOL Nothing will happen if you hit the knee huh. Never seen what happens to someone when their knee folds sideways have you? They wont walk for months. This armor has nothing to prevent that from happening. If you two actually hit each other with the intention to kill the style of fighting would be completely different. Everyone knows you can not do that and you are holding back your strikes. The fact is these weapons were designed to counter that armor. To smash joints and break bones. Yes it is still very good defense against the hammer/mace but with full power hits joints will bend and twist ways they were never ment to go. The knee will bend or hyper extend in ways it can not go without severe injury.
You can insult me all you like and pretend you are being accurate but you are wrong. You smash that knee backwards or sideways they will fall. This isnt some deep medieval fighting secret it is just basic biology. The head is not the only weak spot. Not by a long shot.
@@plaid13 :D I see you never tryed it. We dont hold back, because we normaly dont have to. By knee is locked in armor, it cant bend it sitways if you didnt bend the armor and you will not bend it that significantly from a normal strike, but good luck trying it :D There is also a good reason why no historical source show attaks to the kneeplate, only in the back of the knee where is no armor.
If that isnt holding back you need to do it more often and build some strength and speed. If you cant bend a knee sideways with a mace/hammer shot to the knee through that armor you need lots of work. Only held together with some rivets and leather right? Thin mild steel unless you didnt make it even remotely accurate. It will bend or pop a rivet the knee only needs to go a fraction of an inch maybe a half cm to go out.
Of course I am assuming at least the armor is historically accurate and you didnt use modern materials. Doesnt quite look like it should. Bit dull and dark for normal mild steel. The steels they would have used at the time would not have been able to take a blow from a hammer or mace without deforming some unless thicker and curved like a breast plate or helmet would be. I havnt gotten a great look at that knee joint on your armor maybe you have some real interesting design but all the historical armor i have seen has rivets that allow it to hinge They are loose enough to pivot and flex and the steel will bend. Its dull and not polished and its not rusting. I would almost guess it was stainless steel of some sort but that would be too soft. Is it steel at all? Didnt make a whole set of armor out of titanium did you? I imagine that could be tough enough to take blows without deforming at the thickness and weight you would need for armor. Even if it was a good solid hit with a mace or hammer would cause that joint to deform and bend to the side. Unless of course the weapons are lighter than they should be.
I have not done armored fighting but I do know enough about biology and metal working to understand nothing in a suit of steel plate armor is enough to stop a knee joint from going side ways when hit with a couple pounds of steel swung hard when someone has their weight on it.
@@plaid13You are right and you know a lot. But they don't have the goal of injuring and killing each other. This is prohibited by law
The biggest takeaway from Dequitem's videos is that if you want to protect yourself from a knight, you should steal his dagger.
😉 Not that easy but we try that often. You can see it in the three headed flail video.
Maybe you can just run away if you are not in full armor? I bet there is no way he can catch you while wearing those😮
@@hahayuer6186 You can run in armour
@@searaider3340 sure but not as fast as those not wearing one?
@@hahayuer6186 Indeed you can, if well-trained enough. Armour is not nearly as hindering or heavy as popular media would like you to believe.
Feel like some of those dagger strikes would have ended a real fight.
it seems to me that a guy with grappling skills and a dagger would be really deadly, i thought daggers would not be as usefull against armored opponents but it seems like something suprisingly effective, i guess spear is just a big stick with a dagger and hence it's massive use almost making it a "standard weapon" of choice
They only pull their shots with the rondel it seems
@@unskilled822 the entire reason daggers work against armor is because theyre small, and small means it goes through the little holes in armor easier than a big stick
That being said, under the metal plates theres usually even MORE armor (cloth and chainmail) which daggers cant really get through.
@@chieckenman4432yes however no armor is invulnerable they have a bunch of gaps despite how much armor one can wear, those gaps can be sealed but that means becoming a literal rock without any flexibility let alone fighting
sure though!

Unsportsmanlike conduct 😂😭
What would hapoend if this would be a rwal fight?
not much difference, we both would be dead in the end and the mace didnt do anything than make you feel pain.
This is so interesting. Seeing how they end up in a wrestling match and the importance of the dagger in this instance.
Lately I've gained much more respect for european knigths as being highly skilled fighters in many disciplines. Today we basically have Krav Maga and MMA that resembles real fight (MMA not so much, but at least it tries to remove most tournament restrictions). Back in the days every fighting skill had to be implemented in real fights or it would be useless right away.
"Friends are enemies sometimes, and enemies Friends." -Rumi. Some friend... Wow.
The bigger fellow started to protect his vitals like his, then got in close.
Jiu Jitsu and arms training go hand in hand
Those groin stabs look like they would have won the fight. Especially after how many times. Dude would bleed out in like, 15 seconds.
When the clerics have beef with each other
And again it comes to the daggers, close and nasty, no survivors in this, probably. I think that the original medieval fighters would try to keep the distance for as long as possible, grappling would be considered a less noble discipline. In war, all is fair, of course.
Kind of. You wanna stay in distance we're you can control the fight. Close combat is nasty and there the possibility of both fighters dying is higher.
Me and my brother in our imaginations when we were kids:
How did the longer mace feel compared to the shorter Buhurt mace? I know they're not the same weight, but I always felt the mace in Buhurt would benefit by being a bit longer!
I like longer flails! The striking head of a buhurt mace is actually heavier. In the end it's preverence and a longer flail with more counterweight at the butt didn't help in close combat, but strikes harder in distance.
Do you guys ever get a nasty pinch after you ditch your gauntlets in a grapple? It seems like if you're rolling around with all that steel it must happen...
I have a short were it happened.
nah bro got stabbed in the gooch. he done
Rapier and dagger or sword and dagger next?
Doesn't sound like a knightly combination, but one day for sure!
I'm binging all these fights I love them. Im' curious tho, do you guys get hurt? Some blows really seems scary
Yes I did in the past.
Good to see. Poleaxe next maybe?
There are many poleaxe videos on my channel.
did the other vid go down?
yes I did a mistake with the color grading.
one thing I always wondered especially with these demonstrations but, do you actually swing as hard as people did on the battlefield? I mean unlike a sword or a dulled axe, there's no real risk of getting gutted, but when it comes to maces, they're designed to be struck against armor.
Both risking all and Fight with full of their power
They go full force. There is a common misconception about the effectivness of the mace. In reality a historical mace only weigh approx 3.5lbs.
Anyway he is in a debate is scholagladiatoria about the effectivness of the mace in armoured combat. He went on to say that Dequitem uses Buhurt maces that weigh 2.2lbs. So he busts out a historically accurate mace just to prove that they arn't as effective as they are represented. So yes this was full force.
Not historically accurate for a shield to be used with full plate armor though
Not true. You can find a video about this topic on my channel!
you are wrong
How badly are your armors damaged after sparring? Are they untempered or hardened steel? (Or titanium like what they have in buhurt)
Titanium for the most parts to prevent rust and hardened steel in the helmet, because it's the most protective.
Not much damage, only smallest dents.
@@dequitem damn okay, i've heared titanium was too light and lacked the inertia of steel to reduce shocks, is that true? (Also i believe titanium is springy but will break very quickly when bent permanently)
Yes, hardened steel is better but I often Film in wet places.
Also nichts aus Indien!
@@dequitem Cool, da schau ich mal direkt rein.
Man he busted your shield good with that war hammer
Yes that strike ripped the linen and wood.
How does it feel to get hit with a mace or warhammer when in full plate? Does it genuinely hurt or is it just disorienting to feel the force of the impact? Like would you wake up with a bruise tomorrow or would you not?
I had some bruises the next day, but the headache from the punches was harder.
Dequitem, in video games and on tabletop, hammers and maces are sometimes categorised together and sometimes not. Games like Elder Scrolls put maces and hammers together while games like Battle Brothers give unique properties to either (ex: maces can 'stun' and hammers can 'break armor'). Would you say one is better than the other?
I like warhammers more, but u use the same moves et for both weapons.
ANOTHER BATTLE BROTHERS PLAYER!!!
why do you guys never bash with the pommel or sheilds? yall just swing 3-5 times then go in for a clinch
I think because in a clinch you're able to get to the vitals using a dagger and finish the fight faster. In others, knight meta.
Because a shield bash dont kill your opponent, a dagger does!
A hit with a full weight steel flange mace could very well cause a concussion. Or very easily break the small bones in a hand.
Could also damage linkages, and any joint of articulation in the armor as well. There is a reason these are practice weapons.
This is a full weight steel flanged mace. And it will not break bones under armor or damage articulations or joints. Maces are not anti armor weapons!
@@dequitem Feel like testing that? On a gauntlet, with a hand in it. Cause I will bet all my money it would smash a hand, especially a hand that is tightly griping something. Even if the bones don't fracture. The tendons, and ligaments are on the line.
Could somebody potentially move their hand out of the way, and lessen the damage yes, but there is a reason you both aren't using real weapons here. They are dangerous. Even in heavy armor.
@@kamron_thurmond sorry bro but I tested and used real maces in my duels a couple of times, but no problem. I am very happy that you offer me all your money.
