    He's not underrated, everyone who listens to his music is blown away by the sheer beauty of it. He's just not as famous as it should be, the world literally needs music that touches you this deep. But also this gives us light about the masses, and the music industry. "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here" was the first song a heard, and went on a ride that took me to another musical world. Since I am also a drummer percussionist, Listening to Gavin's time signatures and the way he compliments PT's recordings, I couldn't resist to listening to their whole catalog. I've been a fan ever since, I'm in my 50's and has introduced PT's music to my two daughters, who happened to be musically incline, and they love the music as well. We already bought tickets to go see PT at the Greek Theatre this month. Will be my first experience watching them live, so thrilled and happy to share this moment with my daughters. My daughter's have their personal list of songs that they love, Trains, Open Car,... to name a few and my list could go on and on. Steven is a genius and a great songwriter/composer, We will have the pleasure on giving him and PT a standing ovation well deserved this coming 30th of September at the Greek Theatre. Like Ringo always says " Peace and Love" everybody ✌✌

    To me, Steven Wilson is a one-of-a-kind musician. I discovered both his solo music and Porcupine Tree via the "suggestions" of "similar" music to whatever I was listening on UA-cam (or was it Spotify) almost two years ago and have become a great admirer. When I learned that they were playing Berlin (which they will be doing in less than a week), I immediately got tickets. The reason I found this interview was because I wanted to know what to expect in the concert (new stuff vs. old stuff, etc.). The interview reveals a lot about that at the end, but it is definitely an interesting and engaging interview from beginning to end. Thank you for doing it!

    This one of the most thorough and articulate takes on rock music and its place in 2020s society that I've ever heard. Steven has a very clear perception on how the industry has changed throughout the last three decades, and how some people, both artists and musicians, have difficulty letting go of that "old school" way of creating and distributing music and attaining mainstream attention. The other seismic 21st century band that they neglected to mention was Arctic Monkeys - the last gasp of an era-defining, culture-shifting rock band that prevailed in mainstream culture, and that hasn't happened since 2005.

    I'm saddened that Steven would be frustrated by him not basically being mainstream. I would expect him to understand that he has changed peoples lives with his music in a much deeper way any mainstream music could have. I have been listening to his music all my life and keep coming back for more. Besides Opeth, there have been few other musicians that did that to me. So it's sad to me that he doesn't realize how much the public he does have are invested in his work. As a side note, there is no other band I can listen to live and equate that with their studio work. I find that completely amazing.

    • @PapaP86
      @PapaP86 Рік тому +11

      I'm not sure if your first sentence is accurate to say. I don't think he was saying he's frustrated by "not being mainstream" to me, it sounds more like he's frustrated by not having gotten more exposure for creating the music he has and does *without* being forced to make music that IS mainstream, like his example with "Shallow" or other songs where it didn't feel genuine from his core. Maybe we're saying the same thing, but I think there is some distinction to be had there.

His attitude towards doing his thing a letting people decide is noble and, in the long run, a pretty savvy move. He has had along career and will still be around 20 years from now.

    In my opinion Steve is one of the greatest musicians alive on the planet and not only because is good at what is does but also because he is a real artist thing that most of people in the mainstream don't care. He doesn't fake and he uses the artistic expression called "music" to express concepts and feelings by taking advantage of it's infinite possibilities. Nowdays almost all the musicians belonging to the mainstream scene not only don't make anything authentic and beautiful but they don't communicate anything to me. When i listen to mainstream music of 2022 i don't feel anything and i don't learn anything. By listening for the first time "Radioactive Toy" by Porcupine Tree i learned something useful, i got a message, developed ideas and thoughts but in the first place i felt emotions and feelings, things that i can't get with the 2022 pop/mainstream/flat/fake music.
    I believe that as Steven sais today the frenetic marketing and business operations are woking at a so violent and careless leve that they are killing music and it's main porpuse to be axpression of something.
    So to have a "selfish" and true artist like Steven Wilson today it's very special and motivating. Thank you for being so determined and true Steven.

    Fan of 17 years now. Went to see PT in the OVO Arena in Wembley last Friday. One hell of a performance. 👏 Steven is definitely the greatest creative mind to ever grace the rock scene. He might not be the best guitarist nor the best vocalist but he is definitely the best composer/songwriter and knows how to write songs which enable him to shine as a guitarist and a vocalist. Having Richard Barbieri doing his mental synth helps a lot as well imo. And Gavin, well, Gavin is one of the best drummers of our time. So, they’ve got the creativity and the skill and the ability to create timeless pieces of music. I don’t think I’ve ever heard something they made and didn’t like it. I also don’t think any band on earth is so unique the way they are. As soon as I heard C/C I thought that definitely sounds like PT. There isn’t a single group out there that can sound like that. They are one of a kind. Thank you PT for bringing me so much joy and happiness throughout the last 17 years of my life. Thank you Steven for the music you made while PT were on sabbatical.
