Great breakdown! Would love a second video showing the test footage and calling out the flaws and quirks of each camera

There are some missing pieces. Post stabilization will always be better than realtime/in-body software stabilization. You have way more computational power and you know the "future". However, the gyro data is always useful is best combined with optical flow tracking (not either or). With that, you can even tape an action cam on your red komodo as an IMU tracker, put everything on a drone and throw the results into gyroflow to get buttery smooth footage.

Agreed! But it speak volumes that the computational power of iPhones for example is so strong that the quality of the cinematic mode is so good. I think the real question is is the stabilisation tech at the lower end of the market worth it? Yes it is. 😊

Great videos! Olympus and Panasonic have much better IBIS implementations than Sony, so it actually can be very useful

Your production value is on par with the Verge or MKBHD, how does this only have 21k views!? 😮 Great video!

Great analysis and video! wondering if you could add a comparison to the sony post-stabilization in software using recorded gyro data.

Probably good to mention the longer the focal length or narrower AOV the more susceptible a camera will be to image shake. This is main reason the goPro looks better it’s basically the widest angle possible.

But the Sonys do have gyro data, that you can use to stabilize with their catalyst software 🤔

I had a JVC camcorder from 2001 that had digital image stabilization. Sadly, it's now dead, but how the heck did that work? Surely JVC couldn't have been doing real-time motion detection (based on AI image processing) and warp stabilization in 2001.

Really enjoyed this deep dive. However, I had to watch it in 0.75x speed bc the narrator just talks a bit too fast. Not sure if it's just me, but a lot of information being pressed into 6 and a half minutes was kind of a heavy load to process it all. Just some small constructive criticism for next time.
Production was top tier tho, came here from Instagram and wasn't disappointed. Gonna have to start playing around w the setting on my Alpha 7C 😎 📷

I use to use a mobile gimbal by evo, but when I upgraded my phone it came with built in sensor stabilisation (not just digital frame only) that seemed to fight against the stabilisation of the gimbal, id get these weird vibrations in the footage during certain gimbal moves making most clips unusable. Did you experience anything like that in your tests? I'm not sure if it's an issue of modern phones not really needing a gimbal, the image stabilisation getting into unexpected situations (fighting the gimbal), or of the old gimbal not moving fast enough for the modern phones own stabilisation. Etc

Gimbals are expensive and heavy to bring on a daily use. How about the new gimbal cameras such like DJI Pocket series, what do you think about it? I'm using Osmo Pocket for 2 years and I love how it looks, it delivers cinematic views without using a digital stabilization.

I love the ronin 4D and in some way it is a sensor ouside the body on a gimal and the z axis imo it is the best stabilisation right now

So I watched for 6 and a half minutes for a conclusion of 'use the appropriate tool.' There was no scientific comparison for the viewer (me) to make my own judgement. If that is your final summary, sorry that's a complete cop out.
