I think by that point they must have been told by someone that it was not infact a mate in 2 which they kept emphasizing over and over. IMO they should have atleast acknowledged their mistake later on for educational purposes that there was a another variation and not necessarily mate blunder.
Yeah, that is the one thing everyone watching wanted to know. When did you realize that you missed a win on the spot? This is what happens when you commentate on a person that has a stake in your company.
Magnus missed the winning move but that was not a mate in 2!! I'm surprised the commentators kept emphasizing on the checkmate where there wasn't one, they even have the engine right in front of them and it showed like a +4. The commentators only kept analysing Qf8+ and Kf8 capture, but what if the king doesn't take and goes Kh7?? It's not mate in 2?!
@@roiatiya4303 I don't think so, it would be a rook win but Magnus would be in a worst position with his queen, so I think he didn't want to risk it, they think always 9 or 10 moves ahead, after it the queen couldn't do anything and he didn't want to have his defence weaken with his lone king.
@@BogusLion bro what tf are u yapping about, magnus would just be up a clean rook, definitely would triggered resignation that move or the moves directly after
4 group of people are having blind spot/moment in that position. 1. MVL doesn't notice Magnus has an insane winning move. 2. Magnus doesn't see the insane winning move. 3. Commentators think it is forced mate in 2, it isn't. After Qxf8 black doesn't have to take the queen with king, Kh7 and black escapes. White is up a rook. 4. Us plebs, no idea what is happening. Basically everyone is confused. Which is so freaking awesome.
Jovanka Houska is a far better chess commentator than Tania. Jovanka is much calmer and has a softer voice. Whereas Tania screeches and shouts alot. Another good female chess commentator is Keti Tsatsalashvili.
Evaluation: MVL with a slight advantage over Magnus Magnus lobs a rook into the center of the board. Commentator: That doesn't do anything. 10 seconds later... Evaluation: Magnus has got this one in the bag.

Everyone seems to be very opinionated on the commentary and so forth: real question is how do we feel about the engine (visual mistakes etc etc.) helpful more than hurtful?
Furthermore, I absolutely love the commentary and excellent panel as always. I love to hear them talk and discuss the position as humans, along with their positional knowledge

Kh7 loses a rook for nothing, at this level that's game over - the only way to keep material leads to an instant mate
GM David Howell (IMHO) is the only commentator in this event worth listening to.
I this its always worth to listeninh to him. He is among the best. I also like Daniel Noditski

And as David had said, moving the bishop is not a blunder (presumably Bb2)

@corley-ai losing a rook for nothing is as good as a mate at that level, the game was over in one move
