I love your idea about news reports cut in between scenes in your murder mystery, such a great way to ramp up the suspense! I would suggest also sprinkling in some police reports/case notes since sometimes news outlets aren't given all the details of a specific case. If you want to go into detail, that is. I was so bummed to miss NaNo this year. I got Covid at the very end of October, and for weeks it was all I could do to get out of bed. But so glad you accomplished so much! Happy writing! 😃

I have to write 485 words tomorrow then I have reached 50,000 . This is my fourth year doing this. Last year was the only unsuccessful year. I will be glad to catch on some cleaning once tomorrow is over lol. I know you can reach 50,000 as well. I am rooting for you.
I'm so happy to have won NaNo! I hit 50K on 11/25 and it was a major confidence booster. My overall story is looking to be on track for about 90K words though. I'm trying to get that done by the end of the year, so I'm still trucking along. I think perhaps one of my favorite lines from writing so far has been: You'd know that when they move, you know in your bones something is wrong, that when they scream, it's like their last meal trying to warn you. But it's too late because you still hear it.

nano's gone awful for me but i work retail so i'm gonna blame it on that HAHA... hard to do much writing when you come home exhausted and brainded brrrrr i've just been using nano to revise a draft anyway (which has quickly become "rewriting the first half" apparently) and i've done 11k words so 🥳 i'll count it as a win anyway. best of luck finishing!

Unfortunately, just as NaNo was beginning, some health issues reared their vicious head (emergency room visits, yay, so fun, so fun), and it shortly became very clear to me that 50,000 words was no longer realistic for me. Even though I wasn't able to accomplish what I set out to do, I still wrote more than I have in a long time and remembered that I'm capable of it. I also did a lot of developmental work on something that until now has just been in my head, so I'm trying to not feel like a failure. I think we should all be proud of ourselves for participating even if we didn't "win."
Yeah, I feel like toxic productivity (mixed in with ableism) can quickly pop up with these kind of challenges. It's important to remember that "word count within designated amount of time" says very little about your work, your progress or your future. Take time for your health and I hope you get better soon.

The sloggy middle!! I think I am finally about to leave that dreaded realm. I’m at the “All is lost moment” for my MC. I actually hit 50K last night, so this book is definitely going to be longer then that. My characters are apparently quite chatty and have a lot to say! 😆 I’m excited to see you make it to the end! I know what you mean about writing sprints with other people helping. They are what got me through my first Nano. I loved being on yours and am very grateful to you for having them!!

i hit 50k on the 27th and it was the earliest i think ive ever won nano. it was also maybe my smoothest nano ever? i'm finally on helpful meds so my focus is sooooo much better. plus i really enjoyed my story this year. it's so wild to still be watching your nanowrimo vlogs! i started watching them in maybe 2017/2018? when i was first starting to take nanowrimo seriously (i was 16!) and now i'm 21 still watching your videos and still enjoying them so much. i've been looking forward to this video all month long lol :) hope you're able to catch up! i believe in you!

Thanksgiving was the guillotine that put an end to all my writing for the month, haha. I didn't write for two weeks because of mental health stuff, and because of that my daily writing goal on Thanksgiving became 4.4k a day. I just couldn't do it. 20k total is still pretty nice though :D
I have also been behind this whole NaNo! 😂 To catch up I’ve done 5k the last 2 days, with another one on the schedule for today. That’ll leave me about with 5k to spread out over last 3 days. Admittedly, not a fan of this ‘mad dash to the end’…But this is my first proper NaNo (I’ve done camp twice), so I’ll take the learning curve lol. I officially won Nano earlier on this evening and it feels so surreal haha. It was my first Nano and while the challenge was indeed intense, I found it super fun and interesting. Similar to yourself Kate, I also enjoyed writing/sprinting with other writers during this month! I'm gutted to have missed your Twitch streams (I'm a new follower hehe) but hope to watch them back for future writing projects! I have really enjoyed writing all of my characters interactions with each other, including a random perspective from the main character's love interest. I wish NaNo wasn't in November because that is always the month I am SWAMPED in school. I spent this whole weekend studying and daydreaming about what November would've been like if I could've realistically fit NaNo in my schedule.
I managed to stay ahead for most of NaNo, but unfortunately I'm an underwriter and I ran out of chapters and then I ran out of steam to keep filling in the gaps 😂 O well, I managed to write 45.7k words on my first NaNoWriMo and that's the most I've ever written in a month so I take it as a win! Hope you get there and hit that 50k!

My issue with this nanowrimo goal is that quantity ≠ quality, and no creative proces is linear and tidy. Writing a good book really takes time and there is no "being behind". Case in point is the importance of creative breaks. That's when the magic happens. It's also concerning to me in light of creators opening up about feeling burned out. Even though this is meant to be a wholesome thing, there is a toxic productivity aspect to it that seems a bit concerning to me.
I just hit 25k (ahhh oh no! lol) BUT I've been using NaNoWriMo this year to finish up some first drafts and I just finished the ending of a 1st draft! Now I have two stories that have their first drafts done just from doing NaNoWriMo this year! Now, I'm going to let those rest and work on outlining the end of another project XD
I'm very far behind too! I don't know why I think that I'm totally going to be able to do Nano at the END OF THE SEMESTER every year. x_X You'd imagine after 6 years of formal education I'd plan better by now. >_>

I went so far off the rails with NaNo this year. I hit the second week and completely stopped writing. I think I made the mistake of trying to do too many things at once. And of course, I had a few days where I didn't sleep properly and that messed things up too. I think I just got discouraged with how far behind I was and just lost track of the story. I shall try to get back into it in December or January, I think, since I'm feeling more into doing artwork and making stuffies right now.
I fell behind almost immediately because of a work deadline. I have to write 10K in the next 2 days if I'm going to win... and I have come to the end of my outline. I am now going back and adding bits here and there so I should be able to get the words, but it's much slower going. I might end up hitting 50K a day or two late. Oh well :)
I am also on the Path to Stress. I was over on day 1, fell behind due to the paycheck job and family obligations, managed to catch up on the 12th, but have been behind ever since. Now I'm at 40,219 and I have to do 2445 every day through the end, but I'm hoping I can get 5K today which means I'll only have to do about 1667 words on the last 3 days. The story itself is nowhere near done, but I can probably get the last 30K or so in December.

When it comes to planning your projects and setting priorities I recommend you the HB90 Planning by Sarra Cannon (Heart Breathings). She also uses a Kan ban Board where you can see what you have already accomplished :) Maybe that is something for you as well :) I'm currently sitting at 48K (Day 28). This year I wrote every day but I didn't get that extra badge. Still I'm super proud of what I've achieved and I cannot wait to edit this book :D Cheering you on and sending you love and creative vibes

Since Under The Influence (was gonna abbreviate there but 🤣 no) is about social media influencers, when you said that you're thinking of framing it with newspaper clippings, detective notes, etc., what immediately came to mind--at least on my 3rd rewatch (hi,) is the true crime community on social media and what they'd have to say about what would definitely be a big event in all forms of media after everyone's done getting murdered and people find out. I'm not sure if you meant for it, but I feel like Under The Influence could potentially have things to say about social media, trends, how everything is up for grabs as content fodder, and to certain people once they have any amount of eyes on them, everyone is expendable, blah blah blah. So, I thought maybe looping in the couch detectives and inspector influencers 🧐may be something to consider. Or not and this book is 100% a comedy and you're avoiding heavy social commentary and nothing I said made sense anyway 🤷♀️ Idk I'm cleaning and thought I'd write the idea down somewhere in an effort to pretend I'm not procrastinating 😅

I reached 50,000 on the 16th and finished my story on the 21st (58,339 words total).

I don't want to interfere with your ideas and stuff, so, sorry if this is unwelcome.
Since Under The Influence (was gonna abbreviate there but 🤣 no) is about social media influencers, when you said that you're thinking of framing it with newspaper clippings, detective notes, etc., what immediately came to mind--at least on my 3rd rewatch (hi,) is the true crime community on social media and what they'd have to say about what would definitely be a big event in all forms of media after everyone's done getting murdered and people find out.
I'm not sure if you meant for it, but I feel like Under The Influence could potentially have things to say about social media, trends, how everything is up for grabs as content fodder, and to certain people once they have any amount of eyes on them, everyone is expendable, blah blah blah. So, I thought maybe looping in the couch detectives and inspector influencers 🧐may be something to consider.
Or not and this book is 100% a comedy and you're avoiding heavy social commentary and nothing I said made sense anyway 🤷♀️
