Hey facebook friends and family I need your help reposting this. Especially in black history month black people cannot continue to be treated this way. My friend and I were shopping at the independence center in independence, Missouri(Near Kansas City), when we were done we decided to get a bite to eat at Applebee’s. About an hour into out dinner we were approached by a Independence police officer, a mall cop, and the restaurant manager. We were told that we were accused of eating and not paying for CHICKEN the day before (dining and dashing). Mind you that we have proof that can show our whereabouts and it’s not even in our character to steal. After being mocked, humiliated, and embarrassed we were asked to pay for our food, leave, and not come back. After leaving, calls were made to the restaurant and the manager stated that our accuser remembered that there was a SKINNY girl and a girl who wore MAKEUP. In 2018 is this really what we’re debased to? Our weight and whether or not we wore makeup. She could not recognize any facial features or any defining characteristics . This is a clear example of RACIAL PROFILING that should not be stood for. Just because we are black does not mean we are all criminals and I will not be treated as such.

All the squealing and hysteria doesn't help your case. Your out-of-control reaction just makes it seem like you really are the guilty party. Maybe you're really innocent, but your behavior makes it seem otherwise.

While the young lady is crying, you can hear the one cop laughing. The three employees from Applebees have been fired and the cop SHOULD BE FIRED AS WELL!!!!

she is crying because she is a young lady probaby in her early 20's and talking to her mother. She broke down because of the situation and hearing her mother's voice. It was embarrassing and I understand why she is crying. It is horrible and I truly feel for her. She was living life thinking that it could not happen to her but it can happen to any black person in America! Anywhere, not just in that hick ass town. It hurt me because she sounds like my own daughter crying. It's ridiculous! And this cop is laughing like she is overreacting!! That pisses me off as well! Unless you have dealt with direct racism, with being black, with being thought of as if you are NOTHING as if you are TRASH of this Earth. Then no one understands. I truly feel for her and hate this happened. It truly hurts my soul. I cry with her!!!
Yeah. That crying had me squirming in disbelief. But that's just how she handled the shock of it all, and she was probably panicking. No doubt, the fact she called her mom (which that is the right thing, make sure she hears everything going on, pretty much another witness) means this is the first shock to her system she had. She was totally disregarded as a person because of a default reaction to people that look like her, black. She young, I'd like to think I wouldn't have reacted at her level, but I'm sure I'd be OMG'ing the entire time and then crying my eyes out and scream my lungs out just from the pain once I'm out of sight.
All in all, she was in emotional pain and couldn't control herself because she couldn't grasp any type of control over the situation, hence she is freaking out. And the officer needs sensitivity training, because telling someone to relax... especially men do that shit, they way to quick to order someone to Calm down or Relax when really it isn't a relaxing situation is wrong. That was a total lack of regard for her feelings.

this has totally happened to me. I was in 4th grade though and a bunch of white girls ( I was the only non white girl in the entire school) got together and told the principal that I threatened to shoot one of them and I was so upset I couldn't even defend myself. Luckily it wasn't credible enough to have serious consequences but some parents found out and harassed the principal into revoking my recess privileges for a while. i also ended up followed and harassed by some of the male students after she told her boyfriend I supposedly did this. Horrible and lonely situation.

They just wanted to make up lies to harass black people, for their enjoyment. I'm sure those women were the only black people in the restaurant that day. They all knew it wasn't true, but if enough of them repeat the lie, they can "make it seem" like the truth, just because they can get numbers of white supremacists to regurgitate the lies on cue.
Applebee's needs to be tarnished with the same reputation, that Denny's had years ago for discrimination.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Applebee's employees didn't posses Sherlock Holmes level detective skills and thus missed the obvious you so precisely highlighted.

it's hard to deal with adults when they just start crying. People need to teach their kids better. The whole situation could have been a lot easier on everyone if the girls didn't immediately take their emotions to 10/10.

the police officer was being condescending because he is a dealing with a situation where he can't prove anything but private property owners want to individuals that aren't moving to leave and they resort to crying with examples of their innocence(which i do believe they are innocent, shit sucks) as convincing as "I was ON DUTY at my school" and "what? where am i?"

This is what it feels like when a young person’s entire world view is shattered. I agree that the cop needs to be held accountable. There is no way he should have even approached these women on the vague assumptions of the waitstaff. I am so glad the woman with the phone had the foresight to continue recording. It’s sickening and infuriating and I really really hope they find a good attorney. Apologies aren’t enough!!! It’s time to wake up people!

Sorry, but you always have a choice. The “I’m only following orders” thing didn’t work for the Nazi concentration camp guards and it shouldn’t work here. In West Virginia an officer by the name of Stephen Mader was fired for refusing to shoot a black man that he felt posed no threat. (Two cops came later and shot the man anyway) Officer Mader was recently awarded $175,000 in a wrongful termination suit. Bravo to a cop that stood up for his convictions and what was right. Even if, as you say, this cop felt he had no choice but to speak with these women, the moment they asserted that they had never been there, that should have ended it. He violated their constitutional rights by assuming guilt and forcing them to leave. His levity implies that he was not exactly conflicted, but rather was amused by their distress. Again, sickening and likely just plain racist. Res Ipsa Loquitor, the thing speaks for itself.

The cop laughing in the background is the MOST DISGUSTING part of this. There is no sympathy at all for the woman suffering from the most humiliating experience of her life. She's been asked to leave a public place and never return simply for being black.

The policeman seemed amused by the upset customer's response to being told that she is a suspect of dining and dashing. He behaves in a dismissive manner towards the accused customers. The last thing an innocent person accused of illegal activity needs is an authority figure belittling their concerns about being unjustly accused. I can't imagine what it felt like to go from a pleasant day of shopping and lunch with a friend to being a suspect of a crime. Why couldn't the policeman report the manager's complaint, properly interview the waitress/witness and then review the restaurant's cameras for the facts?

AND - after investigation, the Applebees employees were fired because those were the wrong 2 people ! you can't be that stupid... a white manager would not have let it go that far plus a black waitress would know that she had better be certain otherwise there would be consequences. Part of white privilege is to think that actions against a black person should have no repercussions. Racism doesn't always have to be obvious.. Many times It's found in the uneven application of discretion.

Okay, If I were you officer, I would verify those claims with video tape. Call it investigation work. Have the waitresses describe the incident, where they were sitting, what time, what they ordered and also just plain old video tape, of them entering into the restaurant. What ever claims you make, must be verified.
That officer was dumb as rocks. Because he took the side of the plaintiff without verification. I bet when the officers was called those racist employees couldn't even provide a description for a police sketch.

I am a young white male. A few years ago, I had a broken foot, was in a cast, and couldn’t drive. One day my best friend, who is a young black male, and his girlfriend gave me a ride to the grocery store with them. Shortly after we left my apartment, we were pulled over by the police. The officer told us that it was suspicious because a white male and a black male were in the car together. He accused us of conducting a drug deal. No amount of explaining mattered. We were searched, then the vehicle was searched as we were handcuffed on the curb for 20 minutes. Afterwards, no apology, nothing. I was furious. I wanted the officer’s badge number, I wanted to contact a lawyer, and I wanted to file a complaint with the police. My friend asked me not to, saying that it would simply make him a target for the police in the future.
That broke my heart. Being humiliated by the police was bad enough, but seeing my best friend treated like a second class citizen and being terrified to use the proper channels for justice for fear of recrimination was even worse.
This is ridiculous, and then they call us ignorant when we get upset. Then they are poking fun of the females as well. This is sad. And that officer should be ashamed of himself.

Update: They permanently closed that Applebee's. Before you all rejoice, that mall is being closed anyway, so they just had a perfect excuse to get that Applebee's out of there.
I've lived in Independence for 32 years. I remember going to the Independence Center hundreds of times as a kid and teenager and spending all day with my friends just hanging out and going to the arcade. It was perfectly safe and a family-friendly environment. Around 2000, all of the inner-city trash started flocking eastward and invading Independence. Since then, there have been gang fights and cold-blooded murders on mall property. Normal people know the real problem, but to state the obvious is "racist".

You are focusing on the law when it was obvious to anyone there that these guys were targeted because of what they looked like! You know it and I know it! The law was selectively enforced on them! That makes it a racist act hiding behind the law! Back in the day you could have a sign up that says no blacks allowed, now you can just harass black people under the veil of law so they won't feel comfortable going to this establishment. At the same time, they can deny "it was a bout race" and use legal technicality to deny the obvious!
This is what happens in some of these officer involved shootings when the police lose their minds and shoot a guy up unnecessarily. "I was in fear of my life". No one can prove what someone perceived and the cops almost always get off!

Did anybody ever think that it may actually have nothing to do with their skin color? Why is everybody so fast to jump on racism? Maybe they profiled them because they were women or they didn't dress nice enough. I think the word racism should be illegal I am so sick of hearing that word especially when it's overused or misused.
I would have acted the same way.. because being accused of something that is out of character for you, and then asked to leave would be ludacris. I'm not surprised. This Applebees hired me around the holidays, for a permanent position, then cut me to one 4 hr shift per week after the holidays. They were the most unprofessional group of managers I'd ever encountered.

"Let's do a little role reversal here" what would the policeman do if he was sitting down to a meal & was accused? I know if I were wrongly accused like that, I would be expecting the police to protect me against me being wrongly accused.

OMG, all that screeching and crying. That girl was driving me crazy and making my ears hurt. The video wasn't even clear but I'm glad that the waitress lost her job! I'm sorry for the people who may not have been like that waitress who lost their jobs, though. The cop should have faced some sort of action for his unwillingness to seek out their side.
Role reversal: I would GATHER EVIDENCE first. Camera security footage would be very useful. Cops have gotten so lazy when comes to police work.

D Brother as a waiter I was good at reading people and let me say it was not about race but rather simply how the people dress and carry themselves. Ive had both good and bad white customers as well as good and black customers.. but black women for the most part in groups of even 2 or more always seemed to complain twice as much as any others.

It is an interesting mentality that would consider dirty tables, wobbly chairs, poor presentation, overcooked or cold food, etc. "stupid little details", especially when you admitted to avoiding Applebees's because of bad service and bad food. Conscientious food servers don't wait to be asked for a straw when they provide drinks, and they anticipate the patron's desires. Further, they ask beforehand if a patron wants lemons, sour cream, guacamole, etc., if the dish being ordered is usually served with it--and they don't consider it too much to ask or extra work to say that there is an additional charge for it.
Considering your comments regarding flipping a coin to see who got the "chore" for the day, allegedly receiving extra compensation for doing your job, and getting "special training" for it, undoubtedly, these factors influenced your attitude and your quality of service. Evidence of your rude comments on this forum would support that idea.
But the irony here is that you have spent so much time on this page (of predominantly black posters) posting so many COMPLAINTS. Clearly, you have been projecting your own negative characteristics ("self-righteous, arrogant hypocrites") onto black people and yet no one is accusing you of attempting to be "the biggest bitch". Be the change you want to see in others. A negative mind will not give you a positive life. Stop complaining so much. . . .

I feel so bad for these two ladies!! They owe them a public apology! Applebees and the condescending officer. And that officer?!?! Saying "make sure you spell my name right" --what the heck!!!!!! Be a professional, officer. Does he want his children talked to that way??? I think he was a jerk for saying "Does she always act like this" I mean come on! If you get accused of being a thief and being kicked out of a restaurant of course you are going to be upset and freak out! If you live in America you are very aware that not everyone is treated equally but that officer acted like she should be used to being confronted by police because she is black. That's crap! Treat people as human beings and good ones at that until you find out actual evidence that they are not! Someone commented below that they found out those ladies weren't the correct ones, why couldn't they stop a second and look at some video from the beginning? They obviously did later to find out they weren't the ladies. I think the employees and the officer had already decided they were in the wrong from the start. I am so sorry ladies from the bottom of my heart. Not all white people are like this I promise.
calmly tell them it wasn't you. stick to your story. make an attempt to develop rapport with the officer. look him in the eye and speak in sober tones. stay off your cell phone when you are in a conversation with someone ( it's rude), and behave reassuringly. you two young ladies need to learn to communicate more effectively.

I admit I profile all the time... and the reason is most of the time my profile predictions are spot on. Any group of black women in a restaurant automatically means trouble, running the server in the weeds, and then complaining on the food and service to the point of getting something free then walking out without leaving a tip. Heck Even Oprah had a segment on her show of how black women do this.
Same holds true of young black males in a group walking down the street.. I avoid them at all costs so I do not end up a crime statistic or an unwilling participant in their knock out game.
The same holds true with why I do not associate with white tweakers (Meth users) as they will rob you blind while smiling and proclaiming what a good friend they are.

wow that officer should be fired, not because he told them to leave but because by now he should know that people are scared of them and do not trust them anymore with their weapons. And he doesn't seem to understand her emotional reaction to wrongly being kicked out by scared cops in USA who lack training and also are not going through psychological testings which should be the most difficult test in the academy, that's why they're trigger happy and that's one of the reasons she freaked out. If they wouldn't have paid for the food ONE day before, Why would they have come back the very next day?? if they were the thieves I'm pretty sure they would've gone to a different restaurant.
Those employees probably had to pay for the real thieves food from the day before, so they now see two black women again. They're mad so they don't care how the thieves looked like, they're so ignorant they jumped into the conclusion that "Well, they're of dark skin not many blacks come to the restaurant so it's gotta be them". And most people are like that, dumb asses who jump into conclusions too quickly ruining people's life or plans and even friendships and in some instances their own life, reputation, etc.
My opinion about this situation is that the employee were forced to pay for the food, so they called the cops to ask them to leave. The owners can ask you to leave if they want to, remember you're in private property.

I live 5 minutes from this restaurant, last time I ate here (about 2 months ago) two ladies couldn't pay for their meal, the manager discounted it so they could afford, and they didn't tip.
Point being, I believe dining and dashing is a common act at this location. This doesn't excuse the managers behavior, but it does help explain where they were coming from.

I'm sorry she had to experience this but she was alittle over the top. How old was that girl? At some points she was hysterical & then she calmly asked for her card back & then went back to hysterical. The cop was a straight up asshole.
She needs to compose herself stop crying and before they pay for the meal get both of the officers batch numbers and precinct name and seek legal representation for racial discrimination
