If these native English speakers would have such respect for us that they would learn to pronounce Hungarian names properly, that would be our great pleasure. Thanks...

I try. A couple of these are how they were said to me when I was there. Others I looked up and made my best guess based on the different results.

    Very nice video! Congrats.
Regarding your last remark... The rest of the country is truly different from Budapest.
The second you leave Budapest is the moment you arrive in eastern Europe. I think the western countryside is rather ok, some cities are pretty advanced in terms of culture and overall thinking, for example Pécs which has an extensive underground music scene filled with open-minded young people.
On the eastern countryside? Get ready for some more racism, xenophobia and poverty. I was born here... Keep in mind that not everyone and not all places are like that. There are wonderful people and places here also.
The lack of proper housing, social safety nets, jobs, opportunities make people frustrated. There is great potential but greed and corruption is destroying these regions.
So many travel vloggers come to Budapest for a few days and think they got a glimpse into Hungarian culture but they are mistaken. That's Budapest culture you've got there. It was great that you mentioned several other cities.
For fact #51, did you know that they actually have St. Stephen's right hand mummified and on display in St. Stephen's basilica that you also mentioned? Crazy :DD

Yeah. I really wish I had time to see more of Hungary. If I make it back I’ll likely aim to strictly spend time outside of Budapest.

Don't expect much English to be spoken outside of the tourist areas of Budapest.

Kinda what I figured, honestly. I wish I had more time to see other parts of Hungary.

Forst king was not l Istvan, because his had a father Geza and his had a father and back and back. We know all names for previous kings ... back Atilla, till Nimrod... 😊 ❤

Oh sure! My understanding was just that he was the first of what we know of the modern state, when it converted to Christianity. Is that not correct?

    • @TheBrasidas

Géza was a grand prince. First christian king is István.

Attila? Nimród? That is pseudo science.

@@nick_geo You are right, the first (christian) king was István. His father had a different title (prince, or grand prince could be the english translation), the title "king" was present after the christianisation of Hungary.
Unfortunately not everyone is an expert of hungarian history even in Hungary. :) Attila is the famous hun, which hungarians have some kind of distant relation, but it is still unclear, likely rather cousin-like than direct descension, although it is still a popular belief we are direct descendant of them.
Nimrod is rather a mythical figure of hungarian origin myths.

It's good that you stayed out of politics. It was a smart decision. By the way, Putin has no friends and every Hungarian knows that. It's about business, not friendship, but you have to fight against Hungary because it's in someone's interest.

    • @nick_geo
      @nick_geo  2 місяці тому +1

I try my best to simply present the politics as they are, and give all perspectives of it. This was far more difficult in the Cuba video.

@@nick_geo There are many points of view, it is impossible to please everyone. There are irrefutable facts, that can be stated. And let everyone decide how they want to interpret it.
