      You should do an update...
      also more videos on whatever topics..
      ie what's around you in Arizona.. I'm in the UK cold and damp etc.. with a few weeks of heat..
      ...as you did a good video..
      I have just been given a broken panel .. and so have been trying to find out best ways to repair it.. there's a few ok videos but some that are not! One titled how to fix a broken solar panel took several minutes and smugly said buy a new one.. I reported it to YT!
      Did you test the voltage and more importantly the current output of each panel?
      and also the setup?

    I know adding baking soda to crazy glue...hardens like glass,...have you tried adding baking soda to the epoxy that you use.. to fill in the missing glass...then do it like you are doing on the next coat.???? Haven't tried yet...best David

    • @whatevernamegoeshere3644
      @whatevernamegoeshere3644 5 років тому +3

      It will not work. Any cyanoacrylate based superglue will work with baking soda but epoxy won't. It's a completely different chemical process. Other than that, this is not epoxy but silicone.
      Other than that, epoxy is not weather resistant. It will degrade and fog up in UV and also absorb water and become completely opaque.
      Btw not trying to be a smartass, I'm just trying to prevent really expensive mistakes here

      Isn't baking soda water soluble? Any exposed particles will wash away in the rain leaving a frosted surface I am guessing.

    • @BlkFireHawk427
      @BlkFireHawk427 Рік тому

      @Eddy Lockhart So I have had these shattered panels (the whole surface) for 5 years now, and they still produce 90%. One panel I coated with the two part marine Epoxy did yellow greatly after 2 years, so I don't use that one and I don't plan on coating the other shattered panels I have (bought for $25 each at the time). They were a great emergency back up option.

  • @jarrelljulien5673
    @jarrelljulien5673 2 роки тому +5

    I'd highly advise no one to do this. Especially if the panels are on your house or anywhere people dwell. A cracked panel is a ground fault waiting to happen. So unless you know 1000% that you've sealed this panel completely, which I can tell you from seeing the manufacturing process myself you haven't sealed it, you will have ground faults. Hopefully, your inverter will catch them and shut the system down but they dont always catch them and if your system isn't grounded properly, it wont catch them at all. Ground faults are a big fire risk in the electrical industry. A lot of the safety measures that are taken in the electrical industry are done specifically to avoid ground faults because they cause fires. Also, those dark spots on the panels are burned out cells. Over time, more and more of those will happen. If it hasn't caught fire yet.

    • @jarrelljulien5673

      @@MikeWorcesterpart of what inverters do is to pick up faults in the system. Unless you have a really small, cheap inverter.

      I believe your referring to a string inverter with micro inverters it should be fine the only problem with this over time is that the epoxy will start to yell after so many years I heard but he might get 5 to 10 years out of them I instal panels one of my customers had a bullet go right through his panel and it’s still producing right now and that was about 5 years ago with no epoxy or anything

    • @jarrelljulien5673
      @jarrelljulien5673 Рік тому +1

      @@ACAMPS.HITHOUSE either you have a string inverter, a string inverter with optimizers, or microinverters. You can’t have a string inverter with microinverters. Either one string inverters or micros either one should pick up that fault and shut down. I’ve dealt with arrays with bullet holes, hail damage, etc… One panel, sure go for it. There’s a small risk but for an entire array, it’s not worth risking your house and the people in it to save a few bucks. UL1699B read it

    • @jarrelljulien5673
      @jarrelljulien5673 Рік тому +1

      @@ACAMPS.HITHOUSE one thing I forgot to mention. I’m dealing with a site right now that has about 50MW of hail damaged modules. The number one concern here is fire. We’re running water trucks once daily to make sure vegetation doesn’t dry out. That’s $15k spent every month to make sure a fire doesn’t break out. That should let you know how important it is to not operate an entire array of damage mods.
