I believe that you are supposed to give clear elastic some good stretches before you actually measure and cut it. Apparently it needs that to remind it what it is supposed to do. You will have much better gathering after the stretches.
I am making a dress with a knit top but satin (non stretch) skirt. I am stuck on the best way to attach the skirt. Would regular elastic work too? If I simply gather the skirt and sew it on will it be wavy like some say? Or should I just buy clear elastic
Absolutely, but it is just a bit trickier to handle when starting off. Give yourself a longer tail to start with(a bit of extra elastic to grab onto) and lower your serger blade so that you don't cut the elastic. Take a few stitches without stretching to anchor things then proceed the same way.
Hi Cathy, They were just 3 for length, but the frame rate of the camera and when the needle was moving is making them look crazy long :) They are just regular.
Thank you for this! I was looking for a gathered knit fabric tutorial that didnt use a serger! 😊

Can you use a serger?

Find that sometimes the speeding up makes it harder for me to follow along...... but love your work
Fairhope Sewing School Fairhope, AL Thank you, I didn’t know that.
Some of the zigzag stitches looked quite long, where they?
