What If Super Mario Bros. 1-1 Went On Forever...?

- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- I recently stumbled upon a newly released Super Mario Fan Game called 'Super Mario Bros. S - Road To Finity' made by SuperPi2. According to the developer, this is the description of the game:
Run as far as you can in an infinitely-generating level! Collect coins and moons to buy powerups such as the iconic fire flower and ice flower and the custom blade star, and defeat both familiar and custom enemies to earn more time. As you run, you'll face increasingly dangerous foes and obstacles, so be prepared!
Super Mario Bros. S is a collaborative fangame, meant to embody the spirit of modern Super Mario platformers while utilizing the style of SMB1. Super Mario Bros. S: Road to Infinity is the first Unity version of this game, and is meant to serve as a demo version for the engine as a whole. In future versions of Super Mario Bros. S, Road to Infinity will be updated and incorporated as a new gamemode (how exactly this will be implemented is still unknown).

Thanks so much for playing my fangame, I’m glad you enjoyed it! Sorry about the glitch with the XBox controller… for some reason Unity has different button structures for XBox/Pro Controllers and I didn’t realize that until after release: it definitely will be fixed once I update it.
Woah! Your comment only has one like (from me)??? Everyone including DGR should see your comment!
BTW this game is so cool! Where do I get it from?
I'm REALLY looking forward to playing more of this! Please keep us posted with updates! :D
Oh cool this is made with unity. I have made some games with unity before
If you are using the new input system, always for the generic Xinput specification as the first choice, then go down specific ones (if at all)
I love it!
I think it'd be neat if this wasn't just 1-1, but it slowly (maybe like, every 1500 points maybe?) it would transition the palettes and background to different styles, just so you're not staring at 1-1 the entire time xD
Genius
I was originally planning on including more themes to select from to start, but I like this idea.
Could also be a hard transition via pipes. Combo would be great! Onlone multiplayer mario35 style would also be epic!
DGR, oh my god. I completely forgot I was subscribed to your channel, and I didn’t know what I was missing. I originally started watching for Kaizo ROM Hacks and Mario Maker Troll/Uncleared levels, but I’m so glad to see you’re branching out your content so much. Keep growing DGR!
- A somewhat-veteran who is being reintroduced to the magic of Dave
somewhat same for me
Welcome home, we've missed you 🤗
The one thing this is missing is bonuses for taking out multiple enemies with a single jump or shell.
It is called farming 1-ups.
11:08 Those are enemies from Galaga, an old arcade game that was before your time. You were a little spaceship, and you had to shoot little aliens like that on a convoy or coming toward you.
My dad used to play Galaga at our local video game rental store for hours on a single quarter. He would play so often that he could buy in one time, and go through all 100 or whatever levels until it started over. It got to the point where he would have over 40 lives and have to just walk away from the machine because he had a family to come home to. Mom was less than entertained by the high score.
I’m 18 and I knew what those were. Galaga is my favorite arcade machine game
The memories
“Man, those things were throwing heat!”
Yea, fireballs are hot Dave…
Some cool ideas for this. Add some invisible blocks (maybe not the ones that kill you). Red star should have a bit more range. More time bonus when getting combos.
The red star should be rare and allow you to fly (or maybe that could be a power-down since it’ll be harder to hit enemies?)
The blade star allows you to throw projectiles as well using ZL/ZR
...And make the 100 sound when there's 10 (or 15, or 30, or 60, or 100) seconds left. Perhaps have it play *again* if you get extra time that pushes it over (3D World slows the music back down when you get extra time that pushes the clock over 100 and plays the tune again if it dips below 100.)
I can't believe it's been 3 years since I first subbed to you, just wanna say thanks for the hours of laughing and entertainment!
I came back after a year, or two, wow this channel has changed a little bit!
Yeah, same with me! It's been about four years since I found him. Almost right after I made my UA-cam account. It's crazy.
@@Bruhman5 Most MM2 youtubers are losing a lot of viewers, it's sad
Who else remembers the days of the "Is It Possible?" videos
@@ayo.2022 me!
This is good for an infinite runner type game. The increase in difficulty as well as the timer speeding up is a good balance. There would be one thing I'd improve upon, though. You end up getting so many coins that power-ups aren't an issue. I'd say either change moons to give you 25 instead of 50, or perhaps have the roulette give you some extra points or some useless items to balance it out (like a frog suit or a mini mushroom).
DGR: does not know the name of a fuzzy. Ceave: “And I took that personally”
Holy Fuzzy!!
But he said fuzzy.
(Edit): Nevermind. You meant he forgot the name of the fuzzy later.
@@mickgorro glad someone got that LUL
11:38 Known colloquially as a "mustache jump," due to hardware limitations the original Super Mario Bros only checks whether Mario is moving downwards when interacting with an enemy to determine who takes damage. (General explanation, look more into it if you're interested)
This interaction is either an homage, or means that this game is initially from the original SMB ROM.
It’s a bug, but you’re right about the reasoning. The collision worked that way because originally if the player was moving too fast downwards when stomping an enemy they’d still take damage.
This game just looks like it was inspired by a Level Up animation video, idk why.
I literally just watched one of those
"Mario vs the Infinite Maze"
1-1 going on forever is just endless easy
Lol!
I would call him out for clickbait, but he seems legitimately convinced that this is 1-1, so...
Lkke so this is on top
The bees are either from Galaga or most likely the bees from dk3 when you had to shoot him in the butt and male hime climb and he'd knock down bees nests at you
The bees definitely look like the bees from Galaga, so I think that's the correct option
I'm pretty sure those are from Mario paint. There is a fly scattered game with enemies that look just like those.
1:57 "there's *Galoomba"*
No Dave, that's a _Pokey_ :P
Am I the only one who knows that that's actually a Goombrat?
@@alisiaale565 I was _cognitive_ that it's a Goombrat, I just wanted to raise the absurdity because Dave always calls enemies by their wrong names - i.e. pokeys for wigglers & Iggy for Lemmy
@@IanNewYashaTheFinalAct, oh, makes sense! He once called a Pow block a P-switch and a Lakitu cloud a clown car, lol!
Something I don’t like is how high Mario can jump. He’s more like Luigi in this game.
I think the bug thing is a Fighter Fly from the original Mario Bros.
So basically.. Mario Maker endless challenge
The weird circling bug things look like they're from Galaga.
It'd be nice to see some random mobs from a bunch of other old games in there too.
That’s what I thought!
It is
I thought they were the flys from the fly swatter game in Mario paint.
Yup, they're the lowest-tier enemy from Galaga. :)
Ok this is definitely a step back in the right direction! I really like it! Those bugs are a enemy from the arcade game Galaga
The flying blue enemies are from the Arcade game Galaga
Was looking for this comment so I wouldn't repeat it. Surely he's heard of it.
not "randomly generating" but procedurally generating
which means it bases each generation on templates/rules
If it was truly random then it would become impossible to play
Actually, there are tens to hundreds of sections already built in the game, but the order of these sections is randomly generated. If, however, each tile on the screen was randomly generated, then it would be impossible to play.
I think those bugs are from Donkey Kong 3 where you need to spray his ass with pesticide to win.
I like the fire vs ice flower powerups, wonder if they should add the poison mushroom (from Lost Levels). Also curious why they have a red ninja star but didn't include regular invincibility star?
Also why does it have ice flower but no penguin suit? That's weird.
11:00 Classic Enemy Spotted! The enemy is from an arcade game where you shoot aliens down. At least it's not the type of enemy alien that would capture you and turn you into an enemy.
I think “Galaga” was the name of the arcade!
@@giovanniacker I don't think Galaga is a name of an arcade, I think Galaga is an Arcade Game and a Video Game and a Game.
For multiplayer, it could be like SM35. Send enemies to you and to them. Maybe even special items that would be cutting coins in half.
Hey Dave I watch you since you started the trolled series keep up the good work man!
Awesome video.
Have anyone else realized that you can't skip ads anymore?
“If you fall in a pit and die, it’s over” - So you’re saying not every hole is a chance for glory?! A travesty! 😢💔
I think he meant bottomless pit.
The enemy
IS A BEEE
Alternative Title: What if someone made infinite level in SMM2
The flying bug you didn't know what they were are the main enemy in galaga in the early stages
(Edit)for a fun little easter egg I imagine lol
This is really cool I tried it out as well I hope nintendo doesn't shut it down like they did with InfernoPlus game
Did anyone else notice that the red star power up can break breakable blocks to the side?
I believe that bug enemy is from a NES space ship shooter game, but I can’t remember the name. However, I may be thinking of just a similar enemy.
There were multiple colors of pipes in SMB. Definitely blue and kind of a white/grey/chrome. Maybe orange?
I love how the green shell really opened up that first round. Cool game, thanks for sharing
please do some more kaizo mario galaxy
when I saw the title and logo of the game, I immediately thought of a fan game on scratch called super mario maker s, which is also a really great game.
The flying bees were an enemy from galaga.
OK, hear me out. The tune that plays on the main menu here? This is what Super Mario Maker should use as its "bonus" music in SMB1 style levels.
Also wow, Mario Fan Games Galaxy is still going after all these years!
I saw the thumbnail and title, and thought you were playing my *Bean Burrito 1-1.*

Dgr, I can always count on you to have great videos, love your channel man!
Dgr Do you want to play some mobile games similar to Super Mario Maker where I created some levels?
When you run out of video ideas:
I like the mix of the All Stars Bonus Room theme on the title screen--it works really well in 8 bit.
Ohhhh! It took forever for me to realise what music was that! It sounded so familiar for me, but couldn't figure out what music was that. Thanks for the info!
and I think it has nearly every mob and item from all the games in one also custom power ups and mobs
That ain’t 1-1 That's 1-0 💀
11:07 It's an alien from Galaga
bowser let mario be stuck in a timeloop, didnt think universe of madness included dr. strange showing bowser some tricks.
You should've used your coins to get power ups for extra time
1 view 4 comments hmm
the red star give you a ninja type power up were you can throw ninja stars
11:08 those are enemies from a game called galaga. It is not from any Mario game
11:44: #Hitboxes
11:57: Collisionless pipe... or koopa?
14:59: Did he just grab that shell?
Actually, the glitch at 11:44 also existed in the original Super Mario Bros NES game. That glitch happens because Mario was moving downwards. If Mario is moving downwards, he never takes damage to an enemy. In fact, Mario only takes damage to enemies if he is moving upwards or stationary and he touches an enemy from below at the same time. So, it's not from the hitboxes or something.
Finally! I’ve always wondered about an infinite course 😎
Those bees looked like they were from galaga actually
Genre: platform
1 single platform XD
The enemies you encountered at 11:11 were from Galaga.
Would be cool if there were combos though
Did Dave's razor break mid-shave?
'Road To Finity'
I’m sorry I ended your first run
My best score was 5245 so far
That enemie was 1 of the Galaga bugs
That enemy was from galaga that's from the Atari
oh, when i saw the title i thought you were doing the negative glitch levels in the original mario.
Awesome theory!
11:35 hit boxes? What are those? Who needs them, they're overrated

@@alisiaale565 interesting 🤔 I had no idea about that, thanks for that lol
@@ZombieSlayerN05, happy to help!
You see, I may not be able to beat your score, but I beat Jevil first try and both chapter 1 and 2 without dying, soooooo… (talking about Deltarune btw).
You like randomly generated stuff huh? WHY NOT PLAY MINECRAFT!?
(And also why doesn't anyone else want him to play Minecraft? Are all of these thousands of people really all Mario simps? I like Mario games, but I ain't simping over them.)
I think that is the alien from galaga
New Ridiculous and Hilarious series entry suggestion: Rain on Your Parade.
I gave it a try, and so far (aside from one section where language is used, although censored, because it rips/references Metal Gear Solid), it's family friendly.
The humor and gameplay very much resembles What the Golf, and it is just as fun too. Is there anything else that I should add to intrigue you? (Yes, but it will spoil the game.)
Those who've played it will know why I want DGR to play it.
The Red Star item may have shorter range, but it DOES seem to work on the buzzy beatles. And it busts blocks in front of you. Regular fire flower would not, so it's a trade off.
PS: Those are the flies from Mario Paint program, from way back in the day. Swat enough of them while you're doing your work, and you could do the closest thing to a game that software had, and you'd have to swat all the flies you could, to get to the boss bee-like thing, to get points. Basically. It's been a LOOONNNg time since I've seen that thing. LOL
@DGR: The bee enemies are from Super Mario sunshine, they could not be the bee's enemies for Super Mario Land 2 because they are too small
Short answer: it goes forever
Long answer: this whole video
The enemy was from Galaga.
11:38 epic gamer moment
Infinity? Press "space" to start. 😂😂😂
I can't stress how annoying it is to hear him call goombrats "galoomba"s. A galoomba is an *ENTIRELY DIFFERENT ENEMY.*
Interesting, but I’ll pass. I’m not a huge fan of platformers, especially the 2D ones. I’ve never tried any platformer ROM hacks or platformer fan games.
DGR.. couldn't you have... rebound the controls?
Description: "Road to Finity"...???
The lack of bonus time for combo jumps is dumb. No reason not to just blast fireballs constantly rather than going for the risk of jumps for more reward. The only time difference appears to be based on the enemy you killed. Dumb.
Not to sound rude, but I get what the objective of the game is, what to try to do, what's a general strategy, how much you love it, how it reminds you of stuff, how often an rng map shows the same stuff. But there is nothing else but repeating the same 6 things when talking about it? Constructive criticism.
Tell the developer that they need to open-source it, before Nintendo strikes it down.
@Bubbleverse, did you just say Scratch???
@Bubbleverse force of habit
@Bubbleverse, I loved playing with Scratch 1 year ago, but I stopped using it because it got boring. Lol!
And my friends used to alwayd make fun of me for using my 2 fingers on my NES controller ( back before the college days )i still do that even playing on switch sometimes 🙃
"I've been playing Mario all of my life and I didn't recognize that enemy."
- That's because it was from Galaga
11:01 I'm surprised Dave didn't play Galaga back in his old college days, else he would recognize those fly enemies!
too bad we all know nintendo is going to assasinate this guy
15:34 you can just press button like i do that & use the same thumb to hold the sprint button slightly move to press the jump button with the same thumb as the 1 your holding & use both buttons at once then then when you need to let go of the jump button move the thumb without letting go of the run button, unless you don't have a right thumb or fingers in the not lenght but the other type of size (don't know the correct word) for 1 reason or another this should be easy to do because its like holding X & sometimes pressing A or the other way around, exept you don't move the thumb up & down, instead you move it side ways
Pretty sure that that enemy you did not know was a bee or a wasp
How did you post this while mid stream?????
Is this legal? I mean it's an awesome idea...but seriously are the Nintendo Ninjas gonna come out for this one?
copyright lawsuit on creator in 3...2...
3:04 Snowgrave be like
The bug things I don’t believe are from Mario I think it’s a nod to other older games like Galaga Atleast that’s where the bugs originally were from
These enemies are taken from NES Galaga.
the bugs you didn't recognize are the bugs from the NES game Galaga. i recognized it immediately and felt old haha
Dgr, PLAY THIS LEVEL OR I'LL HAUNT YOUR DREAMS. 7XB L1D BPG
Those flying lil bug guys aren't from the Mario games, it's actually from one of the classic arcade games called Galaga
