      @Pamela Jerousek I have nineteen years worth of education in total. But I don‘t need history books for this. This all happened as I was attending university. I heard and saw them lying to my face in person. I noticed how the motivation for the war changed from finding WMDs to freeing Iraq and planting seeds of democracy, because they couldn't find anything. I remember how Bush stood there claiming victory and nobody I knew bought into it. I remember all the controversies around Guantanamo, the lawlessness of the detaining, denegration and torture of people, at least what made it to the press.

    They called him "General Powell." That's significant to me because when I was activated for Desert Storm, I heard folk talking about "Colin Powell" and "General Schwartzkopf," and Gen Powell was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and thus, Gen Schwartzkopf's superior - boss, if you will.
    I had watched part of Barbara Walter's interview with Gen Schwartzkopf, and he referred to "Colin" in the interview. I know the men worked closely together and I believe there was a mutual respect between them - if not camaraderie. I know Gen Schwartzkopf wasn't being disrespectful at all: he knew Powell personally. Still, it added to my perception that it's OK to slight the black man. That's one reason why, when Barack Obama was elected President, I made a deliberate effort to refer to him as "President Obama."
    So, I appreciate this video featuring a program where Colin Powell is accorded the respect that we would feel any American of his accomplishments should receive. Yes, I've read many comments that insult the man and question his integrity. He mentioned the "infamous" WMD presentation to the UN: I'm still embarrassed for him to this day but I don't believe he knowingly lied to the world. I didn't know he was involved in the My Lai investigation: I'll have to research that. I've never been keen on his being a Republican - but that was his choice and I respect it.
    No, the man isn't perfect and we should be careful about who we honor. We shouldn't idolize anyone. Nevertheless, this man distinguished himself in his service to America at every level. He was a professional soldier. If we refer to "Gen Washington," "Gen Grant," "Gen Custer," "Gen Westmoreland," "Gen Schwartzkopf" - then we ought to say "Gen Powell" just as readily. He earned it.

      They are great Americans until they fund terrorism and lie to America in pursuit of globalist policies. These people need to be tried by accurate history. This man was a traitor. You do know that he created and assisted in funding ISIS, don’t you? I was a marine for 9 years and served in wars that were all bout destroying peoples’ lives. So stop typing BS.

    If Powell had never entered politics his legacy would have been guaranteed to be great. If Powell did not 100% believe the intelligence about WMD’s from Tenant and the CIA then he should have resigned and let Bush Jr and Cheney go on their Journey.

      You are so wrong! He didn't enter politics. General Powell put service to his country first. He transitioned from military service to governmental service, serving under both democrat and Republican presidents. It's not in his character to walk away from a posting that he agreed to do. He finished his 4 years and left. He knew shit was going downhill real quick but being the Honorable gentleman he is he stuck it out till Bush's first term was up.

    Colin Powell launched the American Promise Alliance in 1997.
    The Summit Declaration pledged to fulfill the “promise of America” for every child, which remains the core objective of America’s Promise.
    Specifically, the declaration outlined five essential resources the presidents agreed all children need to develop into successful adults, referred to as the Five Promises
    The Five Promises are:
    1) Every child irrespective of social status or situation should have caring adults to guide and encourage them;
    2) Every child irrespective of social status or situation should have safe places, both physical and psychological, in which students can safely develop;
    3) Every child irrespective of social status or situation should have a healthy start in the form of proper nutrition and exercise;
    4) Every child irrespective of social status or situation should have effective education that prepares them for work and life; and
    5) Every child irrespective of social status or situation should have opportunities for service-that is to help others and foster a sense of community, self-respect and service
    Every child in the world not just America should be guaranteed these promises and resources

    COLIN POWELL is dead now. We all have this fate. We all have those in higher and lower places who’ll speak of us afterwards. Some will exalt us in words of truth, praise and honor. And if we’ve been vicious, dishonest and divisive; the words of exaltation will be trumped with flowering lies.
