Just love the way Phil made every race so exciting with his "here they come spinning out of the turn". Also remember Willie's last race in Chicago when he got beat by Penn state. I still have the souvenir rambling Willie memorabilia the track gave out that day.
I remember when Hawthorne burned down and they had to hold the meet at Sportsmans..I have this Greensheet Pretty Direct was a mare..a damn good one too. And Childewood Hanover was a monster.
I grew up 3 miles from sportsman's and Hawthorne....we always went to see Willy kick ass.....he usually was like 3-5 or lower ..don't ever remember him losing .. I was there that night . Amazing effort....my champion harness horse ...
If you notice the header on the video, the title says HAWTHORNE but the race was held at Sportsmans Park due to the fact that BOTH HAWTHORNE and Washington Park racetracks were heavily gutted by fires in the 8 months previous..Sportsmans was directly behind Hawthorne on the same property, so holding the meet there was not so problematic...
This was the winter harness meet. I believe Phil Georgeff always did the winter harness at Hawthorne. Gil Levine Did the summer harness racing Nero at sportsman’s. It’s too bad the state of Illinois can’t even run a race track anymore.

anybody who ever bought a harness program remembers the "how to read a program" section that featured Willies lines!
I certainly do remember that

I would love to see any footage of the Arlington harness meets after Washington Park burned down
Rambling willie was great
We would go watch Willie run every week wherever he was running in Chicago!
Beautiful. Thanks, Dom.
Pretty Direct was one of the most talented filliesto race in Ill. Ole Insko raced her against the boys on occasion an she was never disgraced...

The best setup in racing in America!! Loved it
My grandmas favorite horse.bob farrington
10 years old here and still racing big
Although his integrity was called into question on occasion..Jim Dolbee was one of the most savvy drivers to work the Chicago circuit in the 1970-80's
