Sorry for that insanely long hiatus! I was so sick lol but I'm better now
Glad you’re better!
Congratulations for your physical book and I'm happy you're back.
Nice to know you’re feeling better
welcome back!! sorry u were sick that sucks :(
Thank you so much for the video and congrats ; you almost got 2 million subscribers !!
How to help with poses: Watch/read Jojo. It's almost physically impossible for characters to go 5 minutes without contorting glamorously or striking some kind of exotic yoga pose.
Seriously. It helped me establish an upper limit of how far I could twist and stretch my characters before they started to look ridiculous.
yeah- they're beautiful
REAL
This is a very good tip
Jojo really helped me with this !
araki himself referenced a lot from fashion magazines too! mostly from japanese brand i think
Okay, but can we talk about those posing figure things!? They’re so hard to do anything with! They don’t stay in a pose
they're lowkey so unhelpful omg
@@LavenderTowne ikr

You could probably use putty or wood sticks to keep it in place, tho I recommend using pictures of models for poses
@@Sir_Sumair yeah, but that’s so much work!! I shouldn’t have to use putty lol
Back in middle school I constantly drew the same three poses, all half bodies. Most with peace signs
Bruh same lol
SAME BRO
BACK WHEN I WAS REALLY A BEGINNER, I JUST DREW THE HANDS CUT OFF WHEN THEY WERE STANDING 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
I'm still trying to break out of the half body phase. Also, the peace signs were so common back in middle school! I still use them occasionally but it's pretty rare now lol
Same!
The amount of drawings and poses lav does for these videos.. I could never
I love your OC, he's realy cool
(a part of me yearns for a backstory or just some lore lol)
YESSSS
All of me yearns to know more about him lol
shes drawn him so much, i must know who is he??????????
In her character design video we also saw him, she said it’s for a project so I guess she’s making another comic
Poses are so hard! I’m trying to do a picture of these two characters fighting and my main oc standing in the middle like “WTF!?”
You helped me so much! Thanks!
The biggest thing for me is if you are making a character that looks like it posing, making sure the character doesn’t look like it’s posing for a camera that is straight on from you, you could make it look like it’s posing for a camera that is kinda of to a side, it’s looks more interesting and less stiff❤
Honestly, what helped me with poses and my art the most was getting into Jojo. At first it started as me recreating the poses the characters do in my drawings but then I realised that Araki uses a lot of fashion models as references, so ever since then I've been looking at pictures of models from fashion magazines like vogue for example. Definitely recommend trying it out :D
at first, coming up with poses will be hard. but the more poses u draw the more you'll have in ur visual library, im at the point where i can draw more complex poses, but i just need a reference to make sure the anatomy is correct :0 also if u cant find a refernce for what u need, try combining multiple :) and a shoutout to lablablabla who's mentioned in every video because thats cool
The basic poses are really good for character sheets and laying out what you want your character to look like. I have only been drawing people for maybe 2 and a half years now and I am just now actually getting brave enough to draw characters and getting inspiration to do so ^^ Pinterest is a life saver
you have no idea how badly i needed this, ive been telling my friend recently that i struggle with improving my art because of exactly this, but googling how to do other poses and stuff just frustrates me, so the way youre kind, soft and actually really helpful about it makes me really happy, so thank you so much
the music video thing is actually so helpful i try to do it as much as i can since they also inspire me a lot
I just got my copy of unfamiliar in the mail and I'm so happy to have it!! I've been watching your videos for a long time and (as a fellow artist and comic creator) you've always been a huge inspiration to me. I'm so proud of you for getting unfamiliar published, that's an amazing accomplishment!!
LavenderTowne: Combating the toxic world of art fixing and rules with helpful suggestions and reminders to not take what she’s saying too seriously. She truly is making the art community a more positive place. (In my opinion)
Haley is very helpful with her tips!!! Also, I hope you're okay Haley, please take care of yourself and remember to rest.
something i do is like find a pose i like, draw over it with basic shapes so i can understand how it looks, and use those basic shapes as a reference to draw it myself
I can’t believe I never thought about using music videos as references. It’s such an amazing idea!
I’ve been seeing the bear trap hood character and some of the other ones, especially from your OC video (the healer and the cutsie one with sharp pig tails) and I really wanna see their story and world, I can’t be the only one
I know with me, one of the hardest things about poses is having the pose vibe with the character. Especially if its a low energy, or introverted character. Most of the ways a pose is made interesting is by giving it energy and making it dynamic, which typically doesnt work well for those types of characters.
I'm glad tooth hood guy is becoming a recurring character in these videos
OMG! thank you so much! I always used to draw character from head to down but this advice seems more useful
Unfamiliar I highly recommend!I will forever remember planchette as “insolent baby goth”
I’m about to do a deep dive study in anatomy and poses (also drawing guys, I can’t draw them at all), so finding this video is super useful
Welcome back!! My Unfamiliar comic just came in and I love it!! 👻💕💕
Try to have some sort of line of action. Especially with strong action poses with lots of exaggeration, it’s helped me a ton. Feel it, where do you want the energy, y’know? Draw it on one or two bold strokes!
3/4 bust shot is my biggest crux, ive tried to keep them just for when im designing but i love drawing them so much
ohhh finding reference in actual moving things! that sounds like a good tip, i'll try it out
LavenderTowne is waking up and choosing violence with these video titles and
👏🏽I’m👏🏽here👏🏽for👏🏽it👏🏽
Thank you!!! I needed this!! 💗♥️💛
I also love that she gives genuinely good advice that, I still use now.
While I've heard other artists bring some of these up, in some form or another, that music video one is a new one for me. A lot of those videos bring out such odd and exaggerated poses, they kind of have to as a way to grab a viewers attention to their own work. To think about using those for your own artwork, that is an incredibly smart to do, I'm definitely going to snag that idea for my own stuff.
I have an extremely differwnt opinion on how to act towards your old art to me its good to roast your old art because it helps you see how far you have come and you get a good laugh out of it
tbh this is exactly what i needed now that i'm starting to push out of my comfort zone a bit, that music video tip and weight distribution advice are going to be really impactful i can already tell thank you
I recently spend an unreal amount of time on a art peace I am kinda proud of. The character is my friends character, and I have them sitting cris cross with one arm dramatically resting on their leg with the other propping up their head kinda resting. The character definitely breaks the 4th wall and them smirking and staring into your soul works for them which was amazing because yes
Okay but can we talk about how calming her voice is? I really like her Creepydrawsta series and she's just so calming :DDDD Also can we have more of the Creepydrawsta series? :)
I don’t do a lot of 3/4 view drawings because it’s easy, it’s because it’s fun to draw the heads that way for me lol
In the thumbnail, I wouldn't say "fixed." To me, "improved" would be a better fit for this video because it's a advice on how to make your art better and a not a video where you directly take someone's art and change things about it to demonstrate that advice.
Other than that, great video! These tips will help me a lot in the future. c:
Watching your videos is my free version of art school
I know your never gonna see this, but, i love your voice and puttting your vids on in the background while I draw
I honestly struggle with poses a lot. So for me, when I get stuck trying to make a pose, I refer to a digital "Puppet" I made.
Essentially, I can move the limbs and joints around while keeping everything connected until I find a pose I like. That way, I can use the pose I made as a reference.
Though, it does feel like a weird process, to make a model of the character to move around before even making the piece it's for.
I can't believe I've never thought of using Music Videos as references. I'll add that to my list of scouring the internet looking for the right poses!
I just wanna say I love your vids and I watch them almost every time I draw I hope you see this ❤❤❤❤
I've been struggeling a lot with poses the past few days and this helped me a lot
I like drawing a stick figure version of whatever pose I’m doing, and then drawing over it to add all the details. I think it helps me personality because it’s easy to draw any pose with stick figures, then you have a base
2:17
Noted ! I’ll try that 😊
Lets goo an upload!!!
The last 3 seconds are a mood ngl
Hi, you may or may not heard of me but I sometimes watch your videos because I like your art style🤭💕 I just wanted to say I'm glad that you're feeling better right now and I've read your book "Unfamiliar" the story itself was good...the ending was cute ☺️🥰
Line of action helps so much for anyone watching today
The music video tip is sooo helpful THANK YOU SO MUUCH FOR NOT GATEKEEPING
i tend to draw the same pose for my characters every time i make a warm up sketch. i know it’s a bland pose and it’s basic, but it helps me get in the zone. it’s similar to the 3/4 bust pose talked about in the beginning, but the characters back is to the viewer and the characters is either looking over their shoulder towards the viewer or facing forward with the back of the head towards the viewer. it’s my favorite pose to warm up with because it’s so easy and simple but it’s too basic and boring to make actual art pieces with lol
Thanks, this was super helpful! LOVE YOUR VIDS 😁
Early! I remember your first video about poses and how helpful it was, there you really pushed things further
The two poses of the start is basically, but different of the poses that I draw to show the clothes and then I really try to make none of these poses
I know how you feel. And now I need to draw more stuff
Hi I love this so much this will be very useful when I’m trying new poses
Lavendertowne is my favorite UA-camr artist >u O lavendertowne keep inspiring others with your art like how you inspired me >u O
MagicPoser has been a godsend for me! They have an app and a browser version, extremely poseable and there's helpful presets too!!!
so glad ur feeling better!! love seeing ur vids
0:52 dude no way is 3/4 easier than straight on for me, even though it’s a simple pose anything on an angle is so hard 💀
Lol same
the only hard part of a 3/4 is the eyes for me ngl.
Yay new video
i can confirm
I looked at a drawing I started drawing by the chest, it looks like he is putting his weight on the chest while his legs don't feel like they are touching the ground, it looks like his feet are on the air. Really good video
I just realized I'm drawing a character with their hand on their hip and a weapon over their shoulder and another with her toes pointed in 😭
I just realized the eyes on the don't for the thumb nail has among us eyes. :)
3/4 view is supposed to be _easy??_ I have so much trouble getting everything to look right
Me too lol
I'm getting your book for Christmas and I'm so exited to read it!! :DD
Proud of you for the book launch!!💕💖💛🧡
Hi, I just want to say I love your videos so much 😍
this vid was very helpful for me :D im doing lineart for a piece rn but when im done im rlly exiting to make a new drawing with these new tips :>>>
I desperately needed this, I still suck at posing and anatomy
When she brought up the 3/4 pose I felt seen 😅 (great video will use these tip 100%)
The irony of watching this video and hearing her say that 3/4 busts are the most common things that beginner artists draw calls me out so much. I was literally drawing a 3/4 bust as she said that.
This is rlly useful! I especially recommend trying the music video one, its very helpful thanks
I am really bad at posing, and I find it difficult to find similar enough poses to the ones Im going for as a refference. I haven't thought about taking refferences from music videos, this is a great idea.
"watch one of your favourite music videos"
Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture will be interesting
Been waiting all day for this
i always struggle with posing so this tutorial is way helpful thank you so much
I HAVE YOUR BOOK NOW I GOT IT TODAY FROM BARNES AND NOBLES!!!!! BTW LOVE YOu
reallt called my jan 2022 self out.... the girl with turned in leg was like my whole art style back then💀
Looking at the video cover I actually like the one on the left more. something about flat not high quality art appeals to me.
congrats on your book launch haley!
for good pose reference i look at fashion magazines, i got this idea from jojos- how araki works, and it helps with creating fun and interesting poses. You also get the benefits of interesting clothing and people.
The amogus eyes in the thumbnail 👌
I use the 3/4 view and cut it off about halfway down the chest for dialogue sprites that I make for my games. I think it looks nice and of course it's easier to draw. this video is very applicable for the full on game sprites despite their much smaller size though and I need that because I'm especially terrible at drawing anything but a static pose which isn't great when I need to be animating things lol
Hey can I ask what app you usually use for digital art and what brushes you use for sketching an lineart? Thanks!
Haven't watched such a helpful video on a long long time, thank you!
The eyes
I just finished my journey in Pinterest for poses and got the notification
BRUH NOT THE AMONGUS EYES IN THE THUMBNAIL 😭😭😭😭
AMONG US IN THE THUMBNAIILLLL!!!
Can't wait to watch another vidio from Lavender Towne.
IS THAT LION HEARTED!? NOSTALGIA ENGAGED!!
Amazing! This helped me so much!
lol im gonna note this down for my gacha edits-
THANK YOU
i have nothing else to say
Everytime i draw a good pose, I draw can’t get the clothes right ; everytime get the clothes right, I can’t find the right pose. Thanks to your video, now I a clearer idea of how I’m supposed to find my way through this process
It's almost time for yet another 'cartoonist tries realism video'!!!
man this video really came out right as I decided to start working on my posing 😭
OKAY YOU HAVE DRAWN THAT ONE GUY LIKE SEVEN TIMES I MUST KNOW WHO IS HE???????
I go head, shoulder circle, mark roughly foot area, hips, legs, okay now I rub out the legs a few million times until the feet don't look weird
This is a fantastic video. Ill be thinking about this because im working on my own comic.
