  • The Butterfly Network ultrasound machine is the size of an electric razor, plugs into your iPhone, and is thousands of dollars less expensive than any other ultrasound out there.

Definitely Incredibly laudable device for general practitioners of the remotest & in accessible areas of developing countries.,would opt to purchase one as & when available in India.

Definitely don't sell this to patients.... will be a nightmare handling all the calls. The Apple watch and Kardia have lead to more fear than diagnosis
This is, however, perfect for Docs who need quick wet reads, great for teaching residents, quick answers in the ER or on rounds.
I am going to buy one I think.

This is awesome technology!! However, it does not replace the need of expertise of a Sonographer. Sonographers are professionally trained to learn the human anatomy in 3D aspect. You must know and understand what you are looking at and where to image in order to get an image properly. Ultrasound scanning requires a special skill.

Im not one to jump to conclusions.. i have an in-ear thermometer, STAT device, Blood pressure machine, Blood Glucose monitor, handheld pocket EEG(love this thing), a lung capacity meter thing i blow into, i even have a set of scales that try to figure out my % of different fat, my muscle, protein % and how much water i have., my general composition(YES i know these scales are inaccurate but i love to have the data anyway its far more helpful than my general weight alone)..
i see my pocket EEG going berserk sometimes and im just like "OK so its telling me im having an Arrhythmic pattern or its showing me a few missed beats that's cool i know i need to adjust my breathing and posture maybe stop thinking whatever the hell i was thinking and that will help level it out.." and as i make those changes i see on the screen that it is working.
i check my STAT and it tells me im low on Spo2 i do the same i make adjustments to fix the issue. im not diabetic but by checking my blood glucose i can say "OK i had a bit too much sugar at breakfast let me adjust now and later so as not to end up crashing or whatever end up diabetic!" so i change what im going to eat in the next meal or snack.
i would love to have something like this, if i could use it offline without internet or some GPS or account like my stupid scales wants as well as see the traditional image, i don't learn anything if i see some modern Steve Jobs style app that doesn't give me much because the creator felt i might panic.. nah screw that give me the traditional image that's what im paying the bux to see... my specs, my stats! not to mention i can learn from it
Hell say i injure my leg when i slip up i could use that traditional image to tell me straight whether i should go into A&E or how i should rest and recover.. YES i can just adopt the habit of always popping a paracetamol and throwing a bag of cold peas or a hot water bottle whatever over it and soaking the leg in the tub with Epsom salt but why? that could lead to incorrect recovery and wasted resources if i cant see what's going on.
By using the data properly i can improve my recovery i can get back to daily life far quicker than without the data even change my lifestyle when i notice something happening after repeated actions whatever they may be(smoking, using a mask, playing guitar a certain way whatever".
So as a message or note to companies that are making things like this: "don't decide for me that im going to panic, don't lock me out of the data and the chance to actually learn about my body, and most importantly don't lock me out of the chance to make real time decisions based on what i can see in data it is my right to do so and can make a world of difference in my life across the time of being alive. 'Give it to me straight doc don't hold back'."

Very good initiative. I would suggest the developer to develop AI so that the app can give auto diagnosis. Anything that can be done to remove the doctor from the equation.

You cannot communicate with any real human being at the Butterfly company. No live person ever answers the phone. Most companies answer the sales calls promptly but do not answer technical support calls. Butterfly customer support is so bad that they do not answer even the sales calls! No response to emails. VERY FRUSTRATING COMPANY TO DEAL WITH!

@@giantlivezzzz671 Improvement does not always bring in changes.
Improvement in doing the same thing brings in the same result (in this case the improvement is convenient but physicians can actually conveniently use their clinical skills to achieve the same without using the instrument) and does not change the quality of healthcare.

Sound waves offer low quality resolution. They are not revolutionizing anything.
