I remember a few years ago in the Magic community these mystery cubes started popping up. They became popular because the company was putting old commander decks in them (which normally sell for 120 bucks) and the cubes were like 20 bucks. People were weighing them in stores to find the boxes that held commander decks. However they were like most other things a scam. Monster boxs are the best of these products. You can often get pretty decent pulls more frequently from it as opposed to the others. Examples: Secret Imperm, 2 secret invocation, ghost neo galaxy eyes photon dragon, etc
This scam also applies to other card games sold at major retailers at well, like those mystery cubes and mystery boxes they sell for magic the gathering. If you have a gambling addiction (which, lets be fair, most of us who play yugioh/pokemon/mtg really do.) buy sealed products instead, where at least the odds are a little more actually in your favor.
I will say that in my experience with the mystery cubes and monster boxes, the packs have never seemed weighed in terms of pulls, and most of the time, I open the legacy pack and just sets that have ultis in them and keep the rest sealed. It’s really hard to find the legacy packs these days, so it’s really nice to be able to get them. I've seen those a few years ago and I didn't buy it because there is a fine print on the box somewhere that clearly state that it's just leftover cards and some would be preowned with unknown condition. So yeah, that's when I was like "yep I would shell more money for randoms than unwanted cards".

Long story short, mystery boxes are how sellers of basically anything can sell things that otherwise wouldn't. Any extras added to make it enticing are really nowhere near as valuable as you're hoping.
Keep on warning people about these please, I remember when I was a kid and got them boy do I regret those. Sad thing is my local stores don't stock very well and that is all that is left. I very much prefer card shops but my closest one is about a hour and a half away, so now a days I get most of my stuff offline.
A few parts of this is wrong. The distributor does not buy back the unsold merchandise. It's not really in store inventory at all. Pay from scan or Pay on scan merch is pretty common. A lot of damaged, partially stolen or old merch gets returned regularly. That's where they get the stuff to fill these packs with.
The only ones that are worth getting are the monster boxes. It has the packs you get on the back of the box and you are basically buying 10 boosters for 4 bucks each. Also there aren't any battle or star packs
I like hunting for cards by luck and not weighing them to see what packs I should buy. I find it more fun to see what cards I could get out of a random pack.
I bought one of these a while back for 10 bucks. It came with a pretty good cyber dragon deck. Besides that the rest was dog water, but the plastic box was also quite nice
Ah, the MJ Holdings Mystery Box. We have those in Magic: the Gathering. Avoid at all costs. Now, the ones in the clear plastic boxes? Those can have value sometimes...especially if you hit certain Commander decks.
The way I see it is if you want specific cards go with TCG player or by sealed boxes. If you just want to expand your collection then booster packs or Walmart mystery boxes.
I use to be able to hold and feel a pack of yugioh and 98% of the time reveal a foil within that pack. Weight and thickness always seemed different than most packs. Strange talent i had.
Bruh I remember I used to buy the $10 mystery sports package that guaranteed an autographed card and I always used to get people I never even heard of 💀
Target does the same thing with Magic the Gathering stuff as well. Ever since I found the Demonic half of Divine vs. Demonic in one of the repackaged plastic cubes I've always checked for value there. Funny thing is that I didn't know the Demonic half was in there, I just wanted the original Ravnica Orzhov starter deck that was on one side.
Thank you for these reviews for the average consumer. Not everyone can splurge for the top tier sets and usually have to settle for these 'value packs'. One of the many reasons I adore this channel.

Open mind, and thinking and internalizing new information is more important than having info. Learning and growing as a professional is a big core part of a career.
Man the production value lately has been insane good shit yall
Long story short, mystery boxes are how sellers of basically anything can sell things that otherwise wouldn't. Any extras added to make it enticing are really nowhere near as valuable as you're hoping.
Man, at this point, I’ll take any cards I can find at a store
You gotta do what u gotta do.
@@coletonmarino1310 I need my fix
Ygo cards are nearly nonexistent in my city. Only 1 store sells them and they fly off the shelves.
Dude at least your wal Mart and target has cards lmao there’s literally NONE in my area
Same
I was expecting to hear "The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell" in that segway.
Ayyyy I’m early for da first time
Ayyyy I'm early for DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA first time 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I haven't heard that since 01.
Reminds me of CDOs. A bunch of bad stuff packaged together makes something (actually not) less risky
I admit Monster Boxes, in particular are a guilty pleasure. What if I told you we pulled a FUEN Invocation from one? :)
Keep on warning people about these please, I remember when I was a kid and got them boy do I regret those. Sad thing is my local stores don't stock very well and that is all that is left. I very much prefer card shops but my closest one is about a hour and a half away, so now a days I get most of my stuff offline.
Thank you for making this because everytime i was at walmart I was so confused why there was so many of these yugioh mystery cubes
I knew they were a scam when they first came out, even Pokemon does the same saying you can get cards from the 90's
The way I see it is if you want specific cards go with TCG player or by sealed boxes. If you just want to expand your collection then booster packs or Walmart mystery boxes.
I always enjoyed the mystery cubes because they usually have a complete deck. I got the foil Noble knight deck out of one
Yes, I’ve bought 1 before
The best card I got was a number that sucked ass
Thank you for these reviews for the average consumer. Not everyone can splurge for the top tier sets and usually have to settle for these 'value packs'. One of the many reasons I adore this channel.
Ive always been suspicious of these things and never bought them as a result.
But those packs of 25ish garbage cards are so much fun.
Big fan of this sort of video essay style! Good work!
I hadn't bought a single pack of Yu Gi Oh cards for more than a decade BUT....but I had downloaded the Yu Gi Oh game app from the app store & playing online. Managed to save myself a headache from buying at Walmart or other retail stores.
