Nearly 8 years later and after watching the new mp44 optimus I still think this one is the best optimus prime figure out there
yeah not if you want animation accuracy. if you want that then there's absolutely 0 competition between mp44 and mp10. mp44 is epic. it's just $500😡
@@Ebidle I’d rather get mp10, hasbro took so much engineering in mp10 rather than mp44, that just only hides part in so many panels. I’m gonna say mp44 is only for people who wants to put it on the shelf and display it as a nice figure, for my perspective, both, both figure are great.

@@Alolino1605 I've got both molds, and while there's a lot of detail in MP-44, I think the look and design of MP-10 is superior. All MP-44 has going for it is a better trailer.
wow, i had the G1, this makes my old toy look like a wooden stick... that is amazing, in 20 more years, every little part will probably light up, it will probably transform by itself, and walk around... i was floored when i saw fingers moving.
A self-transforming OP was just released for about $800.00 USD so congrats on getting that one right!

I actually found the Hasbro Version at Toys R us for 100 bucks, but my parents couldn't afford it at the time. To this day, I still remember it, especially because for the longest time, this was the peak Optimus Prime and it's still considered a classic. And even though nowadays I can purchase MP Figures for myself and happily have all other MP Primes, I still one day would love to get this absolutely classic piece
Though I had no trouble with the newer version of Optimus Prime on the Michael Bay Transformers movies, I wonder what if they used this Optimus Prime instead.... only with the ability to show his mouth like they did with Optimus Primal on Beast Wars.

Thank you so much for this. I consider myself a Metal Earth fanatic and needed this so bad because they got the 2 flap things on his back, one on the left and the other on the right of his back's compartment for his gun wrong. in the Metal Earth one, they're wrongly flapped down (an to be consistent with their mistake the outside facing side is even printed with the 8 circle dot design!), when they should have been flapped up. Without your vid i would have NEVER figured it out. I would have went crazy trying to figure out WHAT THE HECK ARE THOSE FLAP THINGS HANGING BELOW HIS GUN COMPARTMENT!!!!!!!. Now i know exactly how to mod them so the flaps correctly to show not only the already printed side with the eight circles, but also the side with the headlights and parts of the bumper. Thank you so much again

***** Like he said in the video, the eyes look dead. Also, the darker coloring gives him an almost menacing quality, IMO.
***** I heard that the Takara version was based off the original toy's coloring, whereas the Hasbro version was based off the show. This figure was designed to be show-accurate, and thus it would make more sense to have show accurate coloring on a show accurate figure.
Though, of course, in the long run it comes down to personal preference.

Watching this, was like "so, is bigger, more complex G1 optimus with improved transformation, neat", then I saw you flip up the chest and he had the Matrix and went "OMG THAT IS SO FUCKING COOL"
On the Transformers Movie 86, the symbol was on the left shoulder, I looked, and that made me happy. Glad I got MP-10, official, Tamara went with the lighter blue for the rerelease.

1984rockabilly bay formers was made to be more realistic, I like it the designs are cool and more robot like. But rotf devastator... I just hate his robo balls... Like the individual constructicons though.

Titan Returns? Platinum Edition? RID Warrior Class? These toys are great and are the current transformers toys. Yeah sure, the one steps and 3 steps and crash combiners from RID are crap.... but the Warrior class toys are some of the most fun toys made beside lack of paint.

It's a good looking truck, but it is not a Peterbilt FL86. The blue half of this truck is too big, and the front looks too modern to be an '84 semi truck. The most accurate Optimus truck, in my opinion, is the G1 toy. That said, though, this is a very good figure. I just feel they could have been more accurate with the truck. Definitely an improvement from MP-01, but still not too accurate.
EMPVideoStudios Well when you have to design a truck to transform and look like a robot, some things are going to be different. Optimus' truck from the G1 toy doesn't even look entirely like how it looked in the cartoon
***** That's the thing, though. They did the transformation perfectly, in my opinion. Just the truck's aesthetics don't really match the real-life truck. And yes, neither did the cartoon model, but the cartoon model was based off of the toy, and the toy was a (rough but accurate) model of a Peterbilt that turned into an 80s-era fighting robot. All's I'm saying is, this toy is fantastic (and so are your reviews :) ) but the truck mode's aesthetics look more modern to me than an 80's Peterbilt.

He's actually a Freight-liner truck, if you've seen terminator 2 the tow truck the liquid terminator was driving looked exactly like the mp-10 truck.

Not sure if it was mentioned the last few years, but there are 2 flaps on top of the trailer, near the front, where you can fold them down and the robot part inside the trailer can extend outside of the trailer while it's closed.

You’re wrong on Roller. The original toy came with a blue Roller. The cartoon featured a gray/silver Roller.

The only thing that would make this piece "perfect", would be, I think, that if those red squares on either side of the cabin representing (in my estimation) where the cabin door windows would be, were a transparent light blue plastic much like the front of the cabin. Anybody else agree?

I think Roller was only silver/grey in the Diaclone series and maybe a handful of early Hasbro Primes. Definitely for the toy catalogue and instruction manual but I'm pretty sure the toys were blue for the most part in Transformers.

I'm in Omaha Nebraska. The reason they had so many is because he was still boxed up on top of a shelf that was 12 feet up. I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't called them first.

Thanks for the high production values and detailed review! Agree a lot with your assessments--especially the eyes. I prefer the more muted MP-10 colors myself, but I'd find it difficult to live with those cold, black eyes. Roller is excellent, but I feel the trailer could have used a lot more color and detail (compare to G1 trailer!).
I thought I saw in another video that Optimus was nearly a head taller than Rodimus. I'm glad this was mistaken. They both look awesome.
Since I heard that the T"R"U version was being released in October, I arrived at the store when they opened just about every day, and it payed off. I managed to actually get him and I have to say, I prefer the lighter Hasbro colors over MP-10's. It looks nicer and at $100 bucks, worth every cent.

a month or two ago i had a huge moment of nerdgasm i was on the highway and i saw a 80's freightliner cab-over painted up like optimus, autobot logos and all. the frame at the back was even painted blue i almost wish it was pulling the trailer
I used to think that the Tak version was better, mainly because I preferred the darker colors, but this review has changed my mind.
Semi trucks can actually turn into their trailers to the point that the cab smashes into the side of the trailer, which is called a jackknife. The fifth wheel of a truck and kingpin of a trailer will never be spaced such that the front of the trailer contacts the rear of the cab. Generally speaking, most trailers have a bit of tape on the side that marks off the point where the trailer is situated at 90° to the cab, so the driver cab spot it in the mirror while backing or maneuvering. All articulated trucks under non-permit loads are capable of at least 180° of articulation, or 90° to each side, and most can achieve around 100° before jackknifing.
Tl;dr: Optimus' turning radius is not indicative of real-world articulated trucks. It's a minor design oversight that kind of irks me personally, as a professional truck driver (trucker to you four-wheelers), but isn't terribly significant to most people. I can overlook it, though, considering how otherwise well designed he is.
I display mine by using the MP10 to represent the dead Optimus Prime from the G1 movie and use the Hasbro release as the 'alive' Optimus Prime. It looks good in my opinion
this version look and transforms really good. better than the original. my only pet peeves about any MP prime is that i hate how you have to spin the legs around to transform. i've always hated transforms that transforms like that. its like when they go to battle they stand up facing the opposite way. its dumb!!! i do like how the back wheels now have a cover in robot mode. i was glad that they finally added that. i hope in the next version, some toy company will be brave enough to fix the spinning torso tranformation and transform frontward like the OG 1984 optimus prime.

Strange day in the TF fandom when the Hasbro version is more cartoon-accurate than the Takara version.
with a little skill in paint application, one could actually make their own version of nemesis prime from the takara version.... for those who don't know, nemesis prime was basically the evil clone of optimus, they often do this gimmick a lot in the 80's and 90's. but every other version of nemesis was another kind of truck. in this it would make a bit more sense if he were an exact double. soo yeah, just my fan thoughts on this toy set
I would have paid twice as much to get mine. When MP-1 came out, I thought it was too expensive and didn't buy it.... then regretted it for years until I was finally able to get this version. I showed up at Toys R Us as soon as they opened on the day it came out and grabbed one of the two they had received. Another customer wanted to buy both, but I was able to grab My Precious away from him.
He got older now. His voice changed and that is him.
There is a MP version 2 Megatron coming out.
BTW. I like your reviews. They are concise & to the point with enough humor in them to keep them from being boring.
Wow. That scaling of MP10 Optimus to MP05 Megatron is a lot like Transformers Animated Optimus to Megatron. Or in my case, the KuBianBao MP10V Voyager sized MP10 KO to MP36 Megatron.
