- I paid 6 artists on Fiverr for 'Cinematic' color grading. All at different prices points and unsurprisingly... all different results! And most importantly... this video is NOT sponsored by Fiverr! 😉

I liked the one that took the green out, but didn’t put any blue in it, I thought it had the best vibe to it.
Totally agree.
Me too
I think the first one was easily the best, while it didn't give off treal horror vibes, it did kind of gave off a desolate vibe, which might was effectively creepier, IMO. 10 bucks well spent.
The last one was my favorite because he really got the atmosphere, the video is better in night
Its crazy how much colour affects how you perceive a scene
I really love the $95 one. I know night wasn't your vision but it looked so good. So realistic. Beautiful job
4:19 Goodbadbold - Neat. Clean. I would have wanted to taper the highlight a bit. It looks video-ish.
5:40 Yinchao - Man, if you're reading this. Bump up your rate. I like this one the best. Same, I would have wanted to lift the shadows a bit but I feel like he is on the right direction.
7:00 Tagmotion - Hmmmm. Megenta overcast. Lost details in the highlight. Too contrasty and saturated.
7:50 Hendric - If I'm doing a fantasy horror look, I will go with this. Same with your comment, I would have wanted to pull down the saturation on her face. I like this one.
8:45 New Visionary - I like what he did that he deviated from the common color palette of horror. This look might work for thriller suspense type. Think Midsommar, Mindhunter, feels. I would've wanted to pull the skin tone down a bit and shift the hue to yellow a bit.
9:33 Esspin - Espin did a good job at making this day-to-night grade but I really wouldn't recommend doing a day-for-night unless due to production constraint. The colors were a bit muddy almost losing contrast but I understand that this footage is a challenge to do a day-for-night because of the bright background.
Like Yinchao the best, also liked Hendric, and New Visionary.
Cheers
Jing_chao was also my fav even before you announced him as your favorite. I think he watches movies a lot so his color taste is soo good.
The last one was a bit more spooky, but yes, needed background lights so you knew it was shot at night.
Nice job joris! Waiting for part 2 ✌️
Man, this was an amazingly exciting choice of topic! And dumb me didn't know that you could hire people for color grading for little money. I have a question: If one was doing simple talking head videos regularly under the same circumstances, do you think you could have someone color grade your first video and create a LUT that you could use for your future videos?
Yes, definitely! Should be no problem.
Colour grading is something I struggle sooo much with. Great video. The last one was very Game Of Thrones (Long Night episode) which I love. Any tips on colour grading in Davinci Resolve? I suppose it’s all very subjective and to everyone’s individual taste though. Great content Joris 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧
Yinchao $10 ~ 5:49
Hendrix $50 ~ 7:58
Esspin $95 ~ 9:50
My review: I really enjoyed the 95$ one, very suspenseful, captures the magic of horror. But I would remove a bit of blue from the shade. On a budget now I would definitely pass on the $50 and go for Yinchao at $10. Hendrix is a bit too icy.
With Yingchao's, I would alter the music just a bit, it is too warm and non-horror. The longer melodic block goes with a different genre. It should be something more askew, vague or elongated, and boom you have a cheap budget horror.
Thanks for the input! In case you're interested, I turned this sequence into a super short film: ua-cam.com/video/QLpNMZ-C6jw/v-deo.html
I like the night one more than the rest. Seems to fit the filmed video best. I agree with your input however - Would be nice if there were some lights in the background.
I like the second one the most. I wud add maybe 10% more saturation and shadows are a bit too crashed but for my taste this one is the best.
And anyway dude im so happy that you become way more active and you make more videos
Hi,
Interesting to see how different peoples approaches to colour grading vary so much..
Have you done a similar video of how different people on Fiverr edit a travel video from raw footage sent it ??
Being a complete beginner i took my GoPro 7 Black to Orlando in July and shoot away hoping somebody can work wonders with my probably poor shoot material. So many Options ??
Joris great video! The 2nd grade was my favorite, hit the colors and tone well. Did any of them use Davinci Resolve like you ?
Yeah, most of these guys are using Davinci for color grading.
Great video joris you are delivering lots of quality content on UA-cam, can you suggest me best way to learn video editing online
I'm going with the Jing Chao's color grading. I think it's the best match for this video. Greetings from Luxembourg! :-)
could i try to grading this footage? maybe you can share the link of original footage here. thank you
What’s your favorite grade? 🤔💥
Henrich and Ying were the best. They were close to that horror movie vibe.
@@ElusiveFrame Hendrikraech hands down, it was beautiful
The first one you showed looks the best by far! The one from goodbadbold. Too beautiful for this video. Lol! $10 for a color grade of this quality is an absolute steal!!
The Day/Night one
Hendrikraech was spot on. He went for a slightly faded look making the mist pop out in the beginning and his blues were perfect. It really helped building up an ominous feeling before the sigh.
Hello from London England :) i agree there is no one look theres many different variations just like there are many variations on the teal and orange but what people may mean when they say cinematic is the Kodac 2383 look the old Skool 80's film stock look which is making a come back more and more these days. I would've applied this look to your movie kept the shadow's slightly ever so slightly crushed to keep that mysterious physiological horror feel and i would've kept that contrast in there to give a haze effect and in that haze contrast i would've applied a tungsten blue to create a disconnected from society look and to keep the evident horror look. also i would have washed out the green and applied a green/blue tint in the shadows and colour graded the lights in the house ( when you get them added ) a orange more towards the red side again observing that these colours apply a dingy dark feel with the green/blue and tungsten blue giving the erie look and the red suggesting danger. Thats my approach to grading looking deeply at what emotions the colours represent and upon this i decide and present a palette to the DoP/Cinematographer/Director.
To make your video in Davinci match your UA-cam output make sure you monitor and tag your videos properly. If you grade on just a macbook screen turn on use mac display profile for viewers, set your timeline output color to Rec709A and on the deliver page set the tags to Rec709 and Rec709A. I use color management (SDR709 + Rec709A) and now my Davinci GUI viewers match my youtube upload. 💯
I like the one you chose best. The last one went a bit overboard in the darkness effect.. A bit less it might be cool.
Amazing job, grade 2 was my favorite
95$ guy literally nailed it
Superb edits! Love it all 😍 *-Felix*
Really nice video Joris! Loved all of them in a way, but the first two were by far the best suiting the video! You're absolutely going crazy with your content this week, or is it just me? :D
And still I feel like making more videos 😄 But that's impossible... this is the limit for one person 🤯
@@JorisHermans Hi, may I ask what camera and format you used for this video (1080, 4k)?
You deserve much more views and support great work sir😊
Thanks! 🙏
you should provide the ungraded video in your description, It will make people who wants to practice color grading happy. I know it will make me happy....
Quality Video, made me sub.
Now you made me consider hiring someone for this job 😅
I’m gonna send this to Fiverr so they send me a big ol’ bag o’ money! 😄🤑
Aaa this idea was for peter makinin im so glad you did it too
95$ and Jiang Chao guys did phenomenal job.
Hi Joris. Great end results. I have an idea. You can share about 20 seconds of this material with your viewers and make a small competition for the most interesting / prettiest color grading made by amateurs. I don't know anything about it, but I'd like to try it and check what other people have done.
Have a nice day!
That's a great idea actually!
You should arrange a color grading competition between your subscribers. We will love to take part in that competition 🎉🎉
That actually sounds like a great idea 🤔👍🏻
We can do that in fusion on davinci resolve. By using the paint node on top of the the media. 😊
heyy could u send the artists links??
I love the last one it really suits the video
Nice experiment hehe. My fav was the 2nd one
Would it be possible to send to me at all to show you what i can do? only thing i ask is if i can use it in my new and upcoming showreel?
goood videooo broooo
The first time i saw this clip and heard the sound effects it gave me a creepy vibe i could have done a moody tone or maybe something similar to the color grade in "the haunting of bly manor" , bdw can i get this clip so that i can also try something
I have one question... How you send bigger size video files to the editor ??
Google Drive gives you 15Gb of shareable space for free.
I was confused that why is he appreciating the $95 guy for sending him a blank video until I increased my phone's brightness
What´s good with Fiverr is that a buyer can cancel the order anytime, even if the order is terrible. But, what's bad, is that 99 % are either scammers or incompetent.
I'm new to this. So if I have controlled lighting in a studio I can create a colour grade LUT and then just apply it to every video I record and therortically the videos will all looks the same colour grading ? is that how it works or am I missing somwthing
That’s how it works and that’s how I do it too 👌🏻
@@JorisHermans thanks that is very helpful. Just need to find a key light in my budget as the Godox sl60 plus softbox is a little bit to high for me at present
@@gittin_funky Maybe look for an LED panel from Neewer or a cheap brand like that. That's what I used in the beginning. Works fine.
@@JorisHermans cheers man I will do that. Thanks for such great content and advice
Do you use DaVinci editing software? I was thinking of Version 12
I’m using DaVince Resolve 17.
Whoa bro.. you spent way too much on this :) but this was a very nice video, I agree with all of your analysis for the jobs you received... keep it up, great contents man.
As you might have seen in my previous video, I’m making thousands of dollars on UA-cam... I mean.. hundreds... I mean... tens of dollars. Wait a minute... 🤔
i would like to try to color grade this video if i may
This is an awesome video. I really liked your one take shot as well as the different color grades. UA-cam compression didn't do any favors to some of them, unfortunately
Tell me about it! And I’ve tried several times to create a LUT that I can apply before uploading to compensate for the reduced contrast, saturation and everything but it’s impossible. Seems like youtube compression affects every video differently 🤨🤷🏻♂️
@@JorisHermans I was really talking about the blocky artifacts in the shadowy areas, but all that other stuff, too😆. Have you tried uploading in h.265 or prores/DNX?
@@PhillipRPeck mhm, I haven’t tried h.265 yet!
Watching this from Philippines with my baby canon m50 with kitty lens
haha, you can do a lot with the kit lens :) here's an example for something I shot with this "garbage" lens hehe:
ua-cam.com/video/ZPnYJrs3OXM/v-deo.html
Haha i had no idea that it was a Test. I was little bit unsure cuz the shortfilm was a little bit boring. Thanks for the Test and stay healthy
I’m referring to all of you whenever someone asks me if I know someone for color grading. I hope it helps!! 🙏🏻💯
this was fun
I liked the last one but it seemed to lose some of the sharpness. My favourite was the same one that you picked 👍
He added some film grain, that’s why it looks less sharp.
Agree Ying Chows was amazing.
Please, can I give this a shot?
hello bro I interested in adding the lights to the houses day for night shot davinci Im a vfx emmy winning artist. send me the scene thanks keith
Me too, I also am interested
Plot twist: Fivver paid creators to make a "not sponsored video" about hiring someone through Fivver.
Nah just kidding. Great one! It's interesting to see how skill varries regardless of the price 🤔
Honestly, I made this video because I love watching these videos and they're popular... but once I got into it... it was actually really interesting and addictive! 😂 Edit: And that's dangerous when it's NOT sponsored! 🤔😄
@@JorisHermans They are very fun videos! Thanks for sacrificing your money for our entertainment 😎
Please do your color grade version tutorial
Please do 🙏🙏🙏🙏 please give us belated Halloween gift to us
I loved the $10 one the most. Gave me just the right amount of depression
🥲
I love the Canon m50
Hey Joris!
Thanks for sharing. Interesting results(!)
I would love to try out adding lights! Lemme know and maybe we’ll do some kind of collaboration ;)
Sure, man! Can you send me an e-mail? My address is in the description. Then I’ll send you a link to the files. 💥
@@JorisHermans Cool! You’ll receive a mail shortly 😉
Interresting
Mhm... 🤔
Oh yeah... Color grading... well, it's complicated
send me this file
ill make it bro
bro send me the original footage let me colorgrade this for you
Mee too bri !
Casey Faris just did a video on Day/Night grading effect. You should check it out.
Oh, I will! 🙏🏻💥
Love from india
can you send me the footage, I'll try to do something good for you.
It’s a word now!
Cinematically! 😂
NOT sponsored by fiver. haha defo more interesting.
A UA-camr’s gotta do what a UA-camr’s gotta do... 🤷🏻♂️😅
@@JorisHermans Great to see your thoughts on them all and you investing back into your channel for content. Defo very useful for me as someone who would consider outsourcing certain parts of the edit. Some of those results were incredible!
It is nice but we can do more
this is jackson
The day for night footage should have taken skintones into consideration.. her skin looks cold and lifeless.
True 💯
Like if you think Hendrikraech did the best job 👍🏻
These Fiver artists destroys the PROFESSIONAL color grading industry (freelance), also supporting this kind of stuff doesn't help either .
