    I’ve settled on the 6.5 grendel. I think it pulls double duty on varmints and whitetail. I think the lack of support for the 6arc has really held it back. I would think it would be extremely popular if there was plenty of cheap ammo and brass available. The problem with 22 caliber is the competition is 223-5.56. Cheap ammo tons of options and handles varmints easily. I’ve heard some states don’t allow 22 cal for deer so people in those locations that want one cartridge for everything might choose 6 arc or 6.5 grendel. Hope it’s successful. Thx for the video. Happy hunting 👍

      I understand but I'm going to try Barnes Vortex 70 grains 5.56mm first. They shoot well out of my 1 in 7 twist barrel and I don't see why that wouldn't be OK for whitetails and reasonable distances.

    What everybody seems to ignore or pretend, otherwise is that the claimed velocity 3300 ft./s is from a 24 inch barrel. Now how many guys hunt with a 24 inch barrel in the air 15 platform most guys are going to hunt with 18 inch barrels or shoulder which will bring velocities down to about 3150 ft./s. I can do that with light Bullets in my six arc all day.

    Come on man it will not even come close to rivaling the 22CM. The reason the 22ARC rivals the 22-250 is because of bullet design and barrel twist. So unless you custom make a fast twist 22-250 the 22ARC will rival a factory off the shelf 22-250 at and beyond 250 yards.

      In addition to the 7” twist on a custom 22-250, wouldn’t you also need a different throat in the chamber to accommodate those incredibly high BC Hornady bullets. Otherwise, those bullets would need to be seated too deep in the case, correct?

    I’m intrigued to build a light weight AR10 22 Creed. I don’t exactly know what a light weight AR10 feels like. Every AR10 I’ve picked up has been very heavy. But imagining a carbon fiber barrel would have to be used. Would like Aluminum-magnesium lower, upper, handguard but don’t know if anyone makes it.

      I built an (M-5) AR10 on an Aero lower and upper. I used a BSF Carbon fiber barrel and a Smoke composites Carbon Fiber forearm. I would say this weighs about as much as my standard AR15 with an 18" .223 Wylde stainless barrel with aluminum forearm. With the front end of the rifle being lighter, it swings faster. I am very satistifed!

      Ruger has a lightweight AR-10 platform with the SFAR, it's almost the same as the ar-15 but with a larger magwell. NFS what calibers they offer but u could always pick up a .308 rifle from them then build lightweight uppers in your desired caliber!!

    I think a more fair/legitimate/useful comparison would be 22 Arc vs other calibers that can fit and function (factory ammo) in an AR-15 magazine. Then, add in performance comparisons of similar use cases for varmint hunting, such as 22 hornet, 22 creedmor, 22-250, 22 nosler, and other cartridges geared towards varmint-sized game.
    Beyond that, reloaders would consider performance efficiency/cost efficiency/barrel life. 22 cal is nice because there is a lot of bullet options.
    If you hit a groundhog with a ~60gr bullet at 3300 fps it's going to be devastating.
    Do I think 22 ARC is going to be the go to new AR-15 chambering....No, purely based on historical success of new cartridges. Hornady is simply mainstreaming wildcatting and making it more accessible to the general population.
    On face value, I think it's pretty cool you can kinda squeek out 22-250 performance out of a AR-15 with only a barrel/upper swap. However, I believe the 6 ARC has trouble functioning from at least some, maybe most standard AR mags. That's a very valid strike against 6 ARC for me and I hope 22 ARC doesn't have the same issues. (I realize you can buy 6.5 Grendel mags and 6 ARC functions well in them). It's still a pain in the ass though.
    This are my initial thoughts on 22 ARC and it wasn't thoroughly researched. Sorry for the wall of text, but if you read it thanks.

    I can push 70 grain Nosler bonded bullets to 3400 fps and 60 grain partitions to 3600 fps in my 22-250, 1 in 10" twist rifle. Not sure I see the advantage of the 22 ARC over the 22-250 for the bullet weights I use.

      I'm surprised their using such a fast twist with light bullets. Must be using pretty thick jackets. A 1-7 in .22-250 would probably fly apart.

    • @MTCKIE68

      Yeah, you ain't doing that in an AR15.
      You are talking about a bolt gun.
      Ya'll are missing the point about what they are doing.
      It's about making the AR15 better and having more ammo for the fun, and as far as the weight, I see everyone using bipods or tripods varmint hunting.

      You obviously did not watch the video all the way where I talk about that the 22 arc for AR 15 platform. Also the 22 arc actually is very capable and a bull action too. But bottom line is the main thing is 22 Creedmoor verse 22 arc what one is better to shoot for varmint/coyotes the 22 Creedmoor wins.

    • @MTCKIE68
      @MTCKIE68 29 днів тому

      @ReloadingQuest
      Yeah, I know, but it's the comparison of the 2 that is frustrating.
      If you want to shoot the AR15, it's awesome. The best thing is you can have both the Bolt gun and AR15, and that gives you options for a lot of things.
      Everyone keeps talking shit about the arc ammo like it's a waste, but both are way better than the 223 and 556.
      The one I'm really interested in is the 6max for the AR15.
      That's an awesome round because you keep the same bolt as the 556 just change the barrel and magazine.
      If that works out like it looks like it's going to, it's going to be the best thing ever for the AR15 !
