It's amazing how only a handful of episodes with a character can make us cry, the storytelling and presentation is phenomenal to be able to do this.

This fight was so awesome. Choji is such a nice guy, the academy scenes with Shikamaru were nice. He defeated the enemy but couldn't catch up to the team. RIP Choji

@@Barbaresantana She enjoys, same as me. Its just some people always rush in their life. And i dont understand where you all rush. These episodes are relaxing. We have different teams for naruto in different countires, and normal shinobi missions. Its all about that some people just cant relax. They are too "busy" to watch fillers.

this is where everybody puts respect on Choji's name! beautifully done episode, perfect execution of everything that was necessary, made the impact :) Cho means butterfly so giving him the whole butterfly thing is awesome, Akimichi literally means "autumn road", referring to the time of harvest as well as the streets where vendors sell food :) Jirobo projecting, chatting shit, was so satisfying when Choji finished him off, legendary :D he shall never be forgotten!
You know what they say right "its not how you live, but how you die." Choji went down like a absolute worrior. RIP G😢😢
God man. No matter how many times i watch Naruto, Choji reflecting on his dad's words and seeing the messages from his friends never fails to make me cry. Ugh. I really related to Choji in these episodes too cuz i was bullied a lot as a kid but when i met my best friend to this day Chris back in 3rd grade the meaning of the word friend changed for me. And we've been as tight as Choji and Shikamaru since. We're both 30 now.
RIP Choji. You went out like a beast and you were loved my man.

This is one of the 1st any anime episodes that I cried when I was young 12-14 y/o, and I still cry everytime and have chills when I watch it again from time to time. Im almost 30 years old man btw.
Such a good episode.
No matter how many times you watch the series, that scene squeezes your heart so damned hard.
That moment when the pill transformed all his body fat into pure power, and the chakra was blazing out his back as blue fire shaped like butterfly wings... he looked pretty damn cool. Then he crushed his enemy with a single punch, and collapsed next to reminders of his friends... If you're going to die, that's the way to do it.
From an almost one dimensional comic relief character to powerhouse of the Akemichi clan that everyone will root for in one episode. This keeps on happening!

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to make it through this episode without some tears coming out and I’ve seen it so many times already throughout the years.
I first watched Naruto as a teen and it made me cry, now as an adult, with young kids of my own... watching it again... I cannot cry as easily as before, but my heart hurts even worse.

You're the first one I saw that actually cried for Choji. Everyone else was like, "yeah it sucks, but eh.. he's not really anyone" and it's like dude.. y'all are part of the problem!
Choji fought for the honor of his friend. He did his part for the mission with bravery and no second thoughts. Dude's a ride or die for life.
In the English version, it says this last attack is worth my whole life
I can relate to the butterfly scene when Shikimaru got that feeling in his gut that Choji was gone. I had a similar moment in a dream about my older sister and then not long after i woke up that morning I learned that she was in an accident and died :(
The reason we have greatness like JJK, is because of those who came before and paved the way.
They might have flaws and some things haven't aged well, but they still have become legendary.
DBZ, One Piece, Hunter x Hunter, Bleach and Naruto.
there's many deaths in the show and especially later in the show when people die that you have known for hundreds of episodes and have built up sort of a relationship it hits very hard, but somehow this is always the one that gets me bawling every single time. it's not even just being a little teary-eyed. I literally have tears running down my cheeks. It's so well made, with the music, the back story, the messages from his friends, him having this resolve BECAUSE of his friends... just perfection.
Chojis fight with Jirobou is a testiment to the power of their trust. Choji does not win because he refuses to die or because Jirobo insults him. Choji goes crazy because Jirobo insults Shikamaru. Insisting that Choji was a throwaway pawn to him. The fate that Choji has in Shikamaru and the knowledge that Shikamaru trusts him to the same degree is what allows his growth. Him calling Jirobos insults unforgivable is so emotionally satisfying, it captures the essence of how strong a connection he has with Shikamaru. And then he sees the arrow proving to him that Shikamaru never doubted that he would come out on top for a moment.
I'm just glad they stopped and left him messages, so he didn't feel like he was alone, forgotten. I felt - still feel - exactly like Choji did, and yeah, it hits a lot harder watching it now. The chakra wings are still sick, though.
When Choji is the first of the rookie Genin to get a S Rank kill.
Jirobo's A rank at the very most, still very impressive.
It might as well be S Rank when they go into Second State.
I saw this as a kid and sobbed. Now as an adult i'm TRYING not to sob all over again bc im at work 😭😭😭😭

Choji cried because he was grateful to have a friend who accepted him for who he was, as his father said😢😢😢
Any doubt he had about it all, from Jiroubo's "pawn" lecture, were immediately quashed by those carvings and seeing they all expected him to keep his promise and in spite of all that was said they all truly wanted him to succeed like a friend would.

Aaah, the first fakeout death ^^ I remember it well. I was really gutted. And then it was like "nah, he's better now, Tsunade neutralized the poison". Imo, while I appreciate to have Choji alive and well, this was one of those deaths that would have been poetically beautiful and they really dropped the ball by chickening out with it.
I cried so many times on this episode, although i cry pretty easily so idk, might just be me

Shikamaru only gets better with time. With the benefit of hindsight, he was one of the best written side characters in the show.

aside from the goated OST, what i loved most about naruto is the care that's put into the characters; you end up really feeling for them. it makes deaths hit HARD my god. i cannot think of another anime, let alone another piece of media that had me consistently sobbing or getting emotional the way naruto did 😂

Man i love classic Naruto...the music, the set ups, the story beats...you vould clearly tell Kishimoto really cared and had independence while writing these stories. I cant say the same about Shippuden...even when i was reading the manga and was in the thick of peak fandom, i felt it slipping. So many characters built up in the Naruto was sidelined. Like you can forget about all the characters you connected to in this arc (save 1). Dbz styled powerups, lack of ingenuity in fights (save 1 or 2). I truly felt like the publisher was really dictating a lot of the atory and kishi just lost interest. And when the anime finally caught up after all the mind numbing fillers even Toshiro kinda slipped with the music. The music in Shippuden just didnt have the impact of the original. Lots of people srem to love Shippuden, but I have a feeling they watched it growing up so that nostalgia plays a role.
Shippuden had some bangers like akatsuki theme and departure to the front lines. But I agree, after rewatching it OG Naruto is cool af.
