- This setup with an unmarked base, Safetran Gate Mech, Westinghouse LEDs on Westinghouse Brackets and 2 Hybrid Bellis one from the first round of crossing upgrades on the puffing billy. The bell on the Southern side of this crossing has gone flat, it’s so flat it sounds like someone whacking the signal with a hammer. It’s a bit sad to see a hybrid bell dying, I’m hoping it gets fixed. Thanks for watching!
Now that’s the flattest bell I have ever heard!
This crossing definitely has the flatest bell ever. I’ve heard some pretty flat ones but this one is the worst. Great video by the way.
Applehead 137 Thanks! This is the flattest bell I have ever heard too.
That Hybrid Bell needs to get Fixed
That does sound really bad! I remember when I visited in 2013, the signals were only about 2 months old but even then the bell was rather flat but it’s definitely got worse!
Trainman 7 That’s interesting! I wonder why the bell is flat, because I’m sure it’s new old stock.
I’ve seen this crossing on some videos and yes one of the hybrid bells is so flat
It kind of sound like someone hitting a nail into place over and over again with a hammer
Victorian Rail Heritage Yep.
Wow that Westinghouse Hybrid Bell is so flat!
Yep!
Nice.
This crossing is actually in Selby Vic
Victorian Rail Heritage interesting, Apple maps says Belgrave.
Also, it could be possible the hammer has worn through entirely through the gong and now it’s just hitting the bell base. Do you think you could make some time to visit the crossing one day and see if the hammer is going through the gong?
Redhen Railcar SAR google maps seems to say selby so yeah
Redhen Railcar SAR when I’m back down there but I won’t be down there again any time soon so yeah it’s a bit far from geelong
nice
It really does sound horrible and I hope they fix it
Victorian Rail Heritage I agree.
This video has a comment for every like lol
What other Puffing Billy crossings did you film?
Level Crossing Fan Beaconsfield - Emerald Road, Emerald which is only used by gembrook trains, and edenmont Rd Emerald. I was gonna film more but delays made sure that didn’t happen D:

Victorian Rail Heritage oh yeah I thought about fixing it but I must have forgot, thanks for reminding me :)
