first of all Kacey's voice is definitely not made for constantly belting. second of all if u r looking for Kacey belting flawlessly, 3:26 here u go. just because she doesn't often belt, doesn't mean she can't do so

For all the people who are trashing on Katy's performance, it's her song... the original has really high belts, and katy sang it like it was meant to be sung- with power. Kacey doesn't have Katy's range or power so she stayed in one octave but still sounded great. For me Kacey's rendering made firework a depressing song, while Katy's kept its empowering theme. Firework jumps 2 and a half octaves in a single prechorus and reaches a high belt for the chorus and flips to falsetto in the verses, it has cartwheels of dynamics that frankly only katy can sing.
In fact no one else can sing firework like Katy does..
I appreciate you covering the tone deaf issue by saying Kacey ‘stayed in one octave.’ But 100% agree…this is Katy’s comfort zone. She was so courteous throughout.

That was a little awkward at the end of the second chorus when Katy switched to the lower harmony part that kacey had been singing. Kacey looked unprepared for that and just backed off....
No, Kacey was still singing, it's just that her voice is soft and this song is a high note song so she couldn't reach it.

@christinachandler I don’t think she was having a difficult time. It was just her trying to hear herself. When you’re in a huge room and have instruments playing around you, you really have to focus to hear your own voice if your in ear monitor isn’t working perfectly

If an angel from heaven came down to earth and sang, it would sound like Kacy Musgraves. If the Katy Perry that sang like this auditioned in front of American Idol judge Katy Perry, would judge Perry put through this Perry? I would hope not! Katy cannot dial it back and be successful, she needs to let it rip. Kacy can belt it out with the best of them.

I enjoyed the original version of this song, empowering, positive and strong, but this is down right sad and depressing how it sounds. Katy is either losing her voice or has been relying to heavily on autotune in the studio and her back ground singers aren’t helping the situation either.

mighty joe young I didn’t say they sound alike? I used the word “like” as in a form of expression. That they don’t look or sound “like” they are on the same page. The performance was extremely rough like they were not meant to be singing together, bc they don’t mesh like other crossroads entertainers do. Like Haulsey and Kelsea, they took their two different genres and merged them into one and looked like they were having a great time doing it and were natural at it. It doesn’t even seem like Katy wanted Kelsey to be singing the song with her, she took most of the vocals, yes it her song but there were many awkward moments between the two and Katy didn’t seem like she wanted to be the only one really singing it, which defeats the purpose of crossroads. And yes, no duh, I know these are two different genres, that’s the whole point of crossroads! I don’t appreciate the fact that someone makes it this far by recording whole entire albums with more tracks than I can count and uses auto tune on every song bc they really can’t sing naturally without it. I am referring to Katy.
I think they have the least chemistry and compatibility out of all the other CMT Crossroads duos. Everyone else seems like they're enjoying each other and these two are kinda meh.
