Rock album best of year 1. andrew bird inside problems 2. Alvvays - Blue Rev 3. arctic monkeys the car 4. Maggie Rogers Surrender 5. Jack white fear the dawn 6. The unraveling of puptheband pup 7. Raw Data Feel Everything Everything 8. Sunsleeper While You Can
While I don't think it was the best albums that came out this year, Korn's Requiem was one of the best albums they've released in their later years. Just a 9 song album that's super consistent throughout its run time. Great follow up to 2019's The Nothing
1. Dorothy "Gifts From the Holy Ghost" 2. Stratovarius "Survive" 3. Skid Row "The Gangs All Here" 4. Sabaton "The War to End All Wars" 5. Ghost "Impera" 6. Rammstein "Zeit" 7. Placebo "Never Let Me Go" 8. The Pretty Reckless "Other Worlds" 9. Ozzy Osbourne "Patient Number 9" 10. Sunsleeper "While You Can" Honorable Mention (Due to it being a collaborative work and tied to a video game otherwise It would have hit my #1) Metal Hellsinger OST (Same but tied to a movie and #10) The Retaliators Soundtrack Number 11: Halestorm "Back from the Dead" Number 12: Disturbed "Divisive" (3.5/5 Not up to Immortalized much less Asylum but at least it wasn't the goddamn boring 'Evolution'ary dead-end) Most Improved (But Still 2/5 Schlock) FFDP
As someone who HATES Death Metal I tried Lorna Shore's New Album... ...Sorry, still not my taste. Grew up with Linkin Park then moved to Korn, then Slipknot (some), then Trivium (newer stuff), BMTH (TTS) then Bad Omens (2022 Album) I will give huge respect to Lorna Shore for actually putting effort
2022 Favorite Albums: 1. Coheed & Cambria Vaxis II: Window of a Waking Mind 2. Sabaton: The War to End all Wars. Each of these are bloody amazing and such an amazing story in both albums.
I've never really listened to Coheed & Cambria but I totally agree with The War to End All Wars. The entire album was fantastic and the stories as per usual with Sabaton are told as close to perfection as possible. Christmas Truce has been playing so much in my house this Christmas and the rest of the album the rest of the year.
Window of a Waking Mind was the first album I heard by Coheed and Cambria, and I really liked what I heard. Looking into the lore and everything made me more intrigued about what the past albums are like.
I’m so glad Pain Remains made it onto this list. It is the first album in a very long time to make me cry, but it was in a therapeutic way. I absolutely needed it. It was my album of the year, though it’s one of the best things I’ve heard in quite a few years. I will say, in addition and in a similar style of extreme metal, I’d also place Shadow of Intent’s Elegy and, not really a deathcore album but great nonetheless, Kardashev’s Liminal Rite high up in my 2022 list as well. Both wonderful albums, and the latter is from a lesser known band that anyone into extreme metal absolutely needs to check out!
Isn't Death Metal a VERY TINY minority within metal? Grew up with Linkin Park so I'm used to screams but Death Metal feels like trash. Some dude screaming endlessly isn't melodic or rhymic I enjoy a few Slipknot songs but they actually balance their screams
@@christiandauz3742 death metal isnt a tiny minority, its pretty popular and influences a lot of other genres of metal, it just doesnt have any mainstream appeal. but the rest of your comment sounds like boomer bullshit and it seems like you havent actually given extreme metal a fair scratch. its fine if you dont like it, but coming into a comment section just to give dumb opinions about a genre you dont get isnt very productive
@@SrgntSprnkls77 BLATGJ!! GFDVBLARRGHHH!!!! Death Metal in a nutshell No wonder Linkin Park or Mettalica or BMTH or Bad Omens or Slipknot or Korn sell more than ALL EXTREME BANDS FUCKING COMBINED!!!
@@christiandauz3742 My guy, Lorna Shore’s Pain Remains is a Deathcore record and it made it onto the billboard 200 on release. Lorna Shore’s new album is incredibly melodic as the symphonic elements that will growls and screams his choruses along to are extremely hooky and catchy. I remember the main melody of each song extremely well.
I feel this. I told my buddy "OK, going down the Lorna Shore rabbit hole" and started listening to Pain Remains. It was so... Intense that I just wanted it to wash over me. Like, no manic movements or anything, just raw... Emotion. I made it through 4 tracks while at work and was like "Nope, need to devote more time to this alone."
Porcupine Tree’s “Closure / Continuation” is definitely worth a listen to all different musical genre listeners. “Harridan”, “Rat’s Return”, “Herd Culling”, & “Chimera’s Wreck” are some of my favorites from the album. Great album!
I saw them live in Philadelphia. They played the complete album and the songs you mentioned were the highlight of the show. Chimera Wreck was amazing live, even better the studio version.
My personal top 5 albums of the year were 1. Rashomon - Ibaraki 2. Ecdysis - Infected Rain 3. The Divine Council - Psycroptic 4. Lotus - Within Destruction 5. Dedication to Flesh - Spite Honestly super surprised none of these made it onto this list but at the same time so much music comes out that it's understandable. 2022 overall was a VERY good year for music in my opinion.
I am surprised to not see my personal favorite of the year- Nothing More’s “spirits”, as in my mind it is a flawless progression of their previous formula that is equally fun and genuinely good. The surprise coming from how much praise their previous album received by rocked, to clarify.
Top 10 for me in no particular order: Ghost - Impera Electric Callboy - Tekkno Chez Kane - Powerzone Scorpions - Rock believer About Us - S/T Megadeth - The sick, the dying ... and the dead Reckless Love - Turborider Fozzy - Boombox Black Swan - Generation mind Bloodywood - Rakshak
Mine is Impera, I spun the heck out of that record this year and it works. Ghost just doesn’t have only good songs on this record but it flows. Impera is an actual album and not just songs strung together to make a record like most albums. Love how Respite on the Spitalfeilds flows back into the 1st track Imperium.
I’m glad you included a lot of lesser-known albums here, too many best-of lists are including big-name artists even though their albums this year were clearly a step backward (eg Muse).
This is awesome. You've given me at least five albums to listen to while the holidays wash over my family. I'll sit and sip a cocktail while listening to some of these new bands. Too often I find myself falling back on my old grunge albums. Thanks for weeding through all the chaff.
My only additions would be "Omens" from Lamb of God, and "Rakshak" by Bloodywood. The latter came out of nowhere for me and blew my mind. And their US tour was unhinged in the best way possible. "Spillways" is my most listened to song of 2022, followed by "Ultraviolet" by Silverstein. Both were addictive songs.
Color Decay by the devil wears prada was my favorite album of the year. There was alot of good music, but this album scratched an itch I've been needing. Heavy and melodic.
I love how two of my favorite albums hotel kalifornia and impera made it on your best/worst lists this year. It goes to show that ppl can like different things as well as sharing the same tastes in an album
I think in terms of "more variety" in rock/metal, you really couldn't do any better this year than White Ward's False Light. Pushing the limits of Black Metal, Post Metal, Jazz and even Post-Punk sprinkled throughout some tracks as the cherry on top to make a terrific hour-plus masterpiece. False Light is easily my #1 and I wholeheartedly believe we're looking at an instant classic and a new standard for excellence we'll be talking about for years to come. I need to give Holy Fawn another listen, and I need to check out Death Spells as well. Cool vid.
Killer top ten list. There are a few albums I haven't heard here (Sunsleeper, Spiritworld) and a few albums I enjoyed but need to spend more time with and just haven't (Wet Leg, Gang of Youths). Here are my top ten favorite albums of 2022. 1. Static Dress - Rouge Carpet Disaster (post-hardcore/emo pop/metalcore) 2. Nechochwen - Kanawha Black (blackened folk metal/progressive rock/death metal) 3. Marrasmieli - Martaiden mailta (atmospheric pagan black metal) 4. Anxious - Little Green House (emo/hardcore punk/pop punk) 5. Pool Kids - Pool Kids (math rock/post-hardcore/pop rock) 6. Metric - Formentera (synth-pop/new wave/indie rock) 7. Brutus - Unison Life (post-hardcore/math rock/post-metal) 8. Mossgiver - The Song Among Branches (atmospheric black metal) 9. Blackbraid - Blackbraid I (atmospheric black metal) 10. Darko US - Oni (progressive deathcore/nu metalcore/mathcore) Honorable mentions 1. White Ward - False Light (avant-garde post-black metal) 2. The Callous Daoboys - Celebrity Therapist (mathcore/post-hardcore/pop punk) 3. Wormrot - Hiss (grindcore) 4. The Wonder Years - The Hum Goes On Forever (pop punk/emo/alternative rock) 5. Ghost - Impera (hard rock/heavy metal/pop rock)
My top 5: 5. Alpha Games- Bloc Party I didn’t know how this album would feel compared to 2016’s Hymns but this one really made a turn around the song’s brought back some elements of the band’s earlier output and better production quality. If we get caught was one of my songs I couldn’t stop playing this year so definitely earns a spot. 4. Unlimited Love- RCHP It felt like a glorious return with John in the band again Black Summer feels like seeing an old friend you haven’t seen in years and this album is no exception it has a much better crop of songs than The Getaway. 3. Zeit- Rammstein This album was a huge improvement than the 2019 self titled album and 3 years of work was certainly worth the wait. Zick Zack and Adieu I played almost non stop this year. Everything fell into place with upmost precision. 2. Parrhesia- Animals as Leaders Tosin Abasi never fails at his job and this is no exception. Honestly the best album they have done in a while and even an ambient track on here was one I been waiting for by this band because it feels just right for them to do. 1. The Mars Volta- The Mars Volta 10 years of hiatus and this album surpassed my expectations and I couldn’t be any happier than I am now lyrics, production, instrumentals, vocals, etc A bullseye for Cedric and Omar. This is a drastic style change for the better especially a band that was gone for a long time.
@Rocked I may get hate on for this answer, but as far as albums released in 2022 go, I played Shinedown’s “Planet Zero” on repeat in full so many times. I say “in full” because nowadays, there’s only a handful of albums from various artists that I can play the entire record, and Planet Zero is one of them. I know that amongst Shinedown Nation, it’s either love it or ABSOLUTELY HATE it, but I side with the former. I love that it’s a concept album that actually has something to say about the screwed up world in which we find ourselves in 2022. The fact that there are a lot of songs about being yourself and not becoming one in a heard of mindless sheeple who believe every rose-colored thing they see or hear in the media. “Daylight” stands out in particular because it reminded me of the type of bond I had with my dad. Telling him about finally getting to see the band play my home town again and listening to “Daylight” together is my last good memory with him. He passed away from ALS about two and a half weeks after the album was released. It’s been the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through, so despite its not-as-great-as-we-were-expecting reception from a lot of the band’s fans, “Planet Zero” has helped hold me up this year.
I don't think fans actually understood that album. The ones that hated it thought they were taking political sides when he was talking about both sides and it was more about getting our country back & thinking for your self and not be a follower. It's a shame people said they were done with the band and they didn't even get what it was about.
Amon Amarth’s The Great Heathen Army has been my favorite album of the year. Solid melodeath front to back, and the song with Saxon has incredible banter between the vocalists. Death growls and power metal vocals bickering sounds very fresh.
Well dude, you did it to me again. I believe you recommended Spanish Love Songs one year and I was completely hooked with that album. This time around, Gang Of Youths. Man, what an album. I listened to it twice on a trip out of town today, once on the way there, once on the way back. I ordered the vinyl prior to that after hearing about three songs. Thank you so much for these lists that you do at year end. It helps me find music that I otherwise might never hear, and I'm so grateful.
i absolutely loved Megadeth's new release, they finally have a strong sound again, Dave sounds great and the production is amazing, along with the solo work. Theres only one or two weak songs in my opinion and everything else just being back to back bangers.
I am a big MD fan and will fully admit, while none of their albums are bad, the last few have not exactly hooked me in the same way the classic albums have. The latest album though ... oh fuck, what an absolute fucking monster. Love every song on it and could not stop playing it for months. Worth the price of admission for We'll be back, alone.
Alter Bridge Pawns and Kings for me. Alter Bridge never makes a bad album in my opinion. I mean great opener in This is War .Fantastic ending in Pawns and Kings. Silver Tongue is another banger. Last Man Standing has a great Tremonti Guitar Solo . I also like its one of the shorter albums they have done.
I'm surprised it didn't make it his list. They're my favorite band in the history of music and I thought this was one of their best albums ever. While The Last Hero wasn't bad, it's the only album I don't love. I ended up loving this album.
Obvious pick to anyone that knows me, but I gotta give it to Alter Bridge Pawns and Kings. Just a really satisfying listen for me that was a big step up from their last album. I’m super biased towards them, but it’s still damn good. Funny coincidence I just happened to decide to listen to Pain Remains for the first time earlier today. Not sure if I was super into it on the first time around, but I guess I’ll have to give it a few more listens 🙃
One album that will really stick with me is Bad Omens THE DEATH OF PEACE OF MIND. I am glad I finally decided to give it a listen after it was in my Recommendeds for most of the year because holy shit, Bad Omens got elevated to a band I had only really heard about to straight-up winding up in my top ten. DOPOM also gave me the incentive to look at their earlier releases and hey, that's always a plus. An honorary mention for me also goes to Dir en grey's PHALARIS. I needed a few listens to fully get to appreciate it, but I think that's a good thing. (Also doesn't help that I've been a fan of Diru since 2009.)
This is such a great list of best albums because there are lots of new artists and its also nice to see Rammstein here. It would have been nice to see Sabaton on here as well but,oh well. However,I don't agree with Slipknot and Ghost being on this list, personally. Awesome video regardless, though.Keep it up.
Porcupine Tree - CLOSURE/CONTINUATION Megadeth - The Sick, The Dying...and The Dead Alter Bridge - Pawns & Kings To name a few. Porcupine Tree's latest album is one of the best sounding records (production-wise) I've heard in a long time and is a testament of anti-loud production! I hope they give us at least one more full length album that is on a similar level as this one! Megadeth (in actuality Dave Mustaine) has still got it! Their new album proves they are titans of thrash metal all while able to expand their musical palette without sacrificing their roots. The latest lineup is one of the best Dave has had in a while. Alter Bridge is another band that hasn't skipped a beat imo. Their new record tends to be more balanced and powerful than 'Walk The Sky.' Team Myles/Mark can still flex their music muscles well.
Thanks for showcasing all this music, now I know what I'll be listening to the coming weeks 😀 My favourite this year is "Rakshak" by Bloodywood. Holy hell is it a fresh gust of wind in metal, the songs are so well crafted!
Some personal favorites for me this year: Halo Effect Days of the Lost, Soilwork Overgivenheten, Arch Enemy Deceivers, Coheed and Cambria Vaxus 2, Korn Requiem, Demon Hunter Exile, Ghost Impera, Slipknot The End so Far, and Lamb of God Omens (my personal album of the year)
Albums that I feel were missing Alter Bridge - Pawns And Kings Machine Head - Of Kingdom And Crown Dynazty - Final Advent Parkway Drive - Darker Still Bleed From Within - Shrine Once Human - Scar Weaver Lamb Of God - Omens Fit For An Autopsy - Oh What The Future Holds Fit For A King - The Hell We Create The Halo Effect - The Days Of The Lost I am sure I missed some
You NEED to give SPIRITS - NOTHING MORE its due. I discovered this band through this list back in 2017 with The Stories We Tell Ourselves and it has become one of the most influential albums i have ever heard. SPIRITS has topped, if not, been very close to topping that album for me. Jonny Hawkins gives the most intense vocal performances i have ever heard, the production is fantastic and the lyric writing is incredible. At least cover this album in the future if it isn't in the list. I haven't seen a single large channel cover SPIRITS and more people need to listen to NOTHING MORE
Great list! My personal top 5 is 1) Epigone- Wilderun 2) Antimai- The Dear Hunter 3) Lightwork/Nightwork- Devin Townsend 4) Closure/Continuation- Porcupine Tree 5) Impera- Ghost
Two albums that blew me away were Rabbit Junk - Apocalypse For Beginners Machine Head - Of Kingdom And Crown Usually not a huge MH fan, but I do love me some concept albums and it just fit together so well.
Just in general, I've listened to the Japanese artist, Ado the most this year. Her voice is absolutely phenomenal, and she can do so much with it. Her variety in songs makes it so you never hear the same thing twice. As for my top album (least in English), Motionless in White - Scoring the End of the World had me hooked from start to finish.
Here are my top ten best albums of the year, absolutely loved all of these albums 😁 The Halo Effect: Days Of The Lost Parkway Drive: Darker Still Papa Roach: Ego Trip Ozzy Osbourne: Patient Number 9 Slipknot: The End, So Far Arch Enemy: Deceivers Motionless In White: Scoring The End Of The World Ghost: Impera Machine Head Of Kingdom And Crown Trivium: In The Court Of The Dragon My only honourable mention is Malicious Intent by Malevolence There are quite a few albums from this year that I definitely need to listen to such as: Omens by Lamb Of God, True Power by I Prevail, Pain Remains by Lorna Shore, Pawns & Kings by Alter Bridge, Planet Zero by Shinedown, There's Only Black by Venom Inc, If The Sky Came Down by Lost Society, The Gang's All Here by Skid Row, The Classic Symptoms Of A Broken Spirit by Architects, The Great Heathen Army by Amon Amarth, Ashes Lie Still by Ingested, Back From The Dead by Halestorm, Explosions by Three Days Grace, Diamond Star Halos by Def Leppard, Wet Leg by Wet Leg and Shrine by Bleed From Within 🤘
True power by I prevail is a solid album! People have had mixed reviews for I prevail trying out new things but I think they're really good at what they do. You should check it out!
@@pranavsreedhar4631 Most of the hate that comes from I Prevail is mostly from their first album and while it was well received, some of the criticisms they had were ripping off ADTR and The Amity Affliction
@Pranav Sreedhar Love I Prevails first two albums 😁 They're an awesome band. People compared them to ADRR? They sound nothing alike imho 🤣 But fair enough
This is list subject to change: 1 - The Smile - A Light for Attracting Attention - The rhythms alone made this a treat for the ears. This side-project stands toe to toe with Radiohead's main discography, and believe me, I don't say that lightly. 2 - Sleep Party People - Heap of Ashes - Honestly, I'm not a huge SPP fan, but this album stunned me on first listen. I did not know what to expect from one song to the next. 3 - Hallmark '87 - Quiet Storms - A short ambient album about a young boy nervously following weather reports of a violent storm passing through the area. Musically simplistic, but the anxiety is palpable. 4 - Riverwave - Beach Valley - A E S T H E T I C 5 - Goon - Hour of Green Evening - Folksy indie rock with just the right amount of psychedelia. 6 - Sobs - Air Guitar - A bit of a let down compared to their brilliant debut, but still solid little power pop record. 7 - Blank Banshee - Music for Menus - Think of futzing in menus as the "liminal space" of game consoles and computers. 8 - Infinity Frequencies - Exit Simulation - oh hey, speaking of liminal spaces. 9 - Horsegirl - Versions of Modern Performance - Somewhere between REM and Yo La Tengo, on a different day, this could easily jump up to my top 3. 10 - Godspeed You! Black Emperor - All Lights Fucked on the Hairy Amp Drooling - Shut up! It's MY list and this counts! The album itself? Kind of a mess, but that's what I love about it.
Rock album best of year 1. andrew bird inside problems 2. Alvvays - Blue Rev 3. arctic monkeys the car 4. Maggie Rogers Surrender 5. Jack white fear the dawn 6. The unraveling of puptheband pup 7. Raw Data Feel Everything Everything 8. Sunsleeper While You Can
Motionless in White's Scoring The End Of The World wins 2022 for me, absolute fun listen the whole way through! Was also awesome that they had Mick Gordon join in
Interesting list, I'm going to check out at least one or two of these that I missed. My personal top 3 were... 1. Unleash (BAND-MAID) 2. Nonnegative (Coldrain) 3. Yonder (Valiant Hearts) I personally felt like last year was a fantastic year for albums (it was so damn hard to pick a favorite), whereas this year there were more singles/tracks that stood out, but less albums. I will admit, I'm much more of a rock fan than metal (not to say I don't like both), but I think that might be why I found more, full albums last year that stuck.
"You the listener are alright" that exactly is why while I love the Pain Remains Trilogy (the last three songs), I need to be in the right mindset because all three songs seem to make me bawl my eyes out. I feel more emotionally vulnerable after listening to it, and based on the comment sections of the reaction channels that have covered all three songs I'm not the only one.
this video took me a couple of hours to watch because i kept stopping it and going to listen to these albums :D i LOVED wet leg, and thought deathwestern and dimensional bleed were pretty good too :) thanks for the list
Really enjoyed the list, gives me new music impressions to listen to in the future. So thanks for that! For my favorite album of 2022 I can't decide between Banefyre by Crippled Black Phoenix and Vetvi by Theodor Bastard.
Love how much of a charm you have with your videos, great as always! Such a great year for music imo, so much stuff to pick and so many artists that came up with huge surprises. If I go with my top 5 favorite albums I have two lists considering small things Top 5 studio only: The Hatch - Shape of Raw to Come > John Zorn - John Zorn's Bagatelles (Vol. 9-12) > Mental Fracture > Disaccord > Porcupine Tree - Closure/Continuation > The Smile - A Light for Attracting Attention Top 5 including live and archive releases: The Hatch - Shape of Raw to Come > John Zorn - John Zorn's Bagatelles (Vol. 9-12) > Acid Mothers Temple - Domino Dimension Drumatique > Les Rallizes Dénudés - The OZ Tapes > Faust feat. Keiji Haino - This Is the Right Path
For myself the best album of the year is hands down An Abstract Illusion - Woe. It's a melodic black and death ride that I'll never forget. It's one of those albums where every song builds on what was presented before it. This album sets an atmosphere that I loved living in for the entire runtime. If you only heard a song and was like "meh, it's ok" then I implore you to listen to the entire album as it's the perfect example of the sum is greater than its parts. It never stagnates and will keep you engaged the entire time.
So, while i have heard it being called as EP, as it is only 25 minutes in length, I still think it deserves recognition. The Violent's self titled EP. These three came from Red Sun Rising, and they know their stuff. They are obviously passionate about the music they have released, and its just an experience to listen to. I cant wait to see what they release in the future.

I'm still picking through some 2022 releases I missed, but here are my favorites this year, in no particular order outside of my #1 (and it's not even close, despite how much I love every other album on this list): 1. Ashenspire - Hostile Architecture 2. Witchery - Nightside 3. Darkest Era - Wither on the Vine 4. End It - Unpleasant Living* 5. Lorna Shore - Pain Remains 6. Holy Fawn - Dimensional Bleed 7. Backxwash - HIS HAPPINESS SHALL COME FIRST EVEN THOUGH WE ARE SUFFERING 8. Chat Pile - God's Country 9. Sonja - LOUD ARRIVER 10. High Command - Eclipse of the Dual Moons 11. Konvent - Call Down the Sun 12. SpiritWorld - DEATHWESTERN *technically an EP, but fuck it. best hardcore punk I've heard in years. the riffs and vox are killer. didn't make the list, but I enjoyed them well enough: Zeal & Ardor - Zeal & Ardor¹ Ghost - Impera² Black Cross Hotel - Hex ¹I'm still percolating on it. loved Stranger Fruit and Wake of a Nation, and there are amazing cuts on it. not sure if I love it fully as an album tho. ²I didn't just want Meliora II or Prequelle II, I just think it's their worst material to date, imo. lower lows, lower highs. Impera doesn't have a "Cirice" or a "Rats" or a "Square Hammer" or a "Witch Image" or a "Ritual" or a "Kiss the Go-Goat" or a "Body and Blood" that I would put up there as one of their absolute best songs. still pretty enjoyable, but it just leaves me saying, "I know they can do better than this." non metal or punk: Silvana Estrada - Marchita Ari Lennox - age/sex/location Backxwash - HIS HAPPINESS SHALL COME FIRST EVEN THOUGH WE ARE SUFFERING (counting it as both because it's technically rap, but it's the most metal album this year) Quadeca - I Didn't Mean to Haunt You Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time SZA - SOS
My personal favorite for the year is Ghost. The songs have that feeling of longevity to them and every time I hear it I enjoy it more and more! Lot of great albums this year. Was really surprised no mention of NothingMore Spirits on any aspect of the channel
Thanks to this video I have found SpiritWorld's DeathWestern for the fist time. I didn't realise that my life was missing a thrash horror spaghetti western until now. My favourite this year was Zeal & Ardor's self titled album, not as amazing as Devil is Fine but still pretty damn good

idk if youve checked them out but you NEED to listen to the album Heroine by Thornhill. a drastic change in tone and feel from their 2019 album (which is equally as good imo), heroine has its own character and unique flavour that does not get stale. the narrative and flow the tracks have pace really well as an album and youre doing a disservice by not hearing them out. songs like The Hellfire Club, Hollywood and Blue Velvet are some of my favourites from it, but its honestly hard to do that. Similarly, Porucpine Tree's new album sounded great and would definitely recommend that hope i could sell some people on these 😁
Good to see Holy Fawn ranked this high on the list. These guys have a really unique sound. I first heard of this band after Randy Blythe from Lamb of God posted about Death Spells.
My favorite albums of this year have to be 1. Fascination--The Birthday Massacre (Definitely my favorite album of the year. It was so well made and I just couldn't get enough of it) 2. The Alchemy Project--Epica (I know it is an EP but it was sooo amazing that I can't stop listening to The Miner and Sirens) 3. Pirates--Visions of Atlantis (a huge surprise for me and to me their best album to date) 4. Revel in Time--Arjen Lucassen's Star One (great music by Arjen, one of my favorite guitarists and it introduced me to Brittany Slayes and Unleash the Archers which I am beyond grateful for) 5. Comalies XX--Lacuna Coil (I was not expecting them to remix their classic album Comalies, but I really enjoyed the new spin of the songs) 6. The God Machine--Blind Guardian (Very epic and a great return of one of my new favorite bands) 7. Zeit--Rammstein (So many great songs in this fantastic album that I definitely listened to it a lot this year) 8. A Paranormal Evening with the Moonglow Society--Avantasia (A great companion to Moonglow and felt like a perfect way to end Moonglow's story)
Interesting list. I'm actually a pretty big fan of The Birthday Massacre, but I didn't love their latest album. Not only did it feel a bit short, but I also kept waiting for at least one (for lack of a better term) banger track. Something in the vein of Red Stars or Sleepwalking. Instead, the whole album reminded me of Superstition. A great song, but I like how TBM usually mixes a variety of rock, synth, EDM, and groove all into one package. This latest album (I felt) was mostly synth with the other elements sprinkled in occasionally. But hey, that's just my take. Still looking forward to the next album!
@@andrewhoffman1087 That's interesting that you mentioned that it reminded you of Superstition which is actually my favorite album of theirs. But that's cool that you didn't like it. I am so looking forward to their next album as well.
Holy Fawn!!!! Best band in decades!!!! Much props for bringing them (along with Randy Blythe from Lamb of God saying theyre prior album Death Spells was the BEST album of 2018)....sooo fucking good!!
thee unknown is absolutely right. HOLY FAWN has music you can feel. da unknown, also has a great point, Death Spells was praised by some of the top rock insiders. the unknown, keep whipping the long hair around 🤘🤘🤘rock on...
Interesting list, including some releases that were completely off my radar. Here's some other albums released this year that I think are definitely worth checking out: Amon Amarth - The Great Heathen Army Blind Guardian - The God Machine Clutch - Sunrise on Slaughter Beach Corpsegrinder - Corpsegrinder Disillusion - Ayam GWAR - The New Dark Ages Heilung - Drif The Hu - Rumble of Thunder KMFDM - Hyena Morbikon - Ov Mournful Twilight Municipal Waste - Electrified Brain Sabaton - The War to End All Wars Sakis Tolis - Among the Fires From Hell Wednesday 13 - Horrifier Zeal and Ardor - Zeal & Ardor
God there's a whole bunch of albums on here I NEVER heard but I am kicking myself for not doing so sooner. I gotta get on Soul Glo and Spiritworld! Anyhow, here's my top albums for this year, no particular order: Lorna Shore - Pain Remains Bad Omens - THE DEATH OF PEACE OF MIND Electric Callboy - TEKKNO Bloodywood - Rakshak Nothing More - SPIRITS Fit for a King - The Hell we Create Palaye Royale - Fever Dream Ghost - IMPERA Cancer Bats - Psychic Jailbreak
Rock album best of year 1. andrew bird inside problems 2. Alvvays - Blue Rev 3. arctic monkeys the car 4. Maggie Rogers Surrender 5. Jack white fear the dawn 6. The unraveling of puptheband pup 7. Raw Data Feel Everything Everything 8. Sunsleeper While You Can
"Replicaate" Great list you have. Here are my favourite albums this year (Some of them won't be rock or metal btw so don't judge me) 1. Northlane-Obsidian 2. Thornhill-Heroine 3. Maggie Rogers-Surrender 4. The Gloom in the Corner-Trinity 5. Taylor Swift-Midnights And also, if you mind, here are my favourite movies and TV Shows this year (Same thing with albums) Favourite shows 1. Wednesday 2. Cobra Kai 3. The Flight Attendant 4. Only Murders in the Building Favourite movies 1. The Batman 2. Top Gun: Maverick
Love the Gang of Youths pick. I felt like they were "main stage" after 2017's Go Farther in Lightness, anyway. Dave is the real deal as a singer and lyricist.
Rakshak by Bloodywood and The War to End All Wars by Sabaton are both no-skip albums from 2022 for me, especially Rakshak. I'm particularly impressed with the fact that Rakshak is a DEBUT. I also absolutely adored ERROR by The Warning, which is probably my most-listened album of 2022. I hadn't heard of a lot of these albums, but now I have plenty of recommendations to check out!
Glad to see Error mentioned. The singles Choke and Money were good but to me the best tracks are those departing more from the mainstream rock format, my favorite being Amour. The bassist Ale I think is going to be one of the best (she just turned 18 but was 15 when the album was recorded), Pau’s a powerful drummer but she delivers a beautiful, plaintive voice on the acoustic Revenant, and Dany’s vocals are impressive throughout. But they excel on stage, check out almost any of the videos from the latest tour.
@@markjames8664 Pau also sang on "23," which is my favorite on the album, possibly tied with the title track. Ale is amazing; she's my 3rd favorite bassist of all time *now*, imagine what she's going to be in a few years.
My top albums this year were definitely The War to End All Wars from Sabaton and Tekno from Electric Callboy.Being the history nerd that I am Sabaton is just THE band for me, and Electric Callboy's new album is just so fun and catchy I just can't help but love it.
I am very surprised but very glad to hear Moon Tooth on this list! I found these guys after having them come recommended on Bandcamp and it's probably in my top 2 albums for this year.
My personal top 10 albums of 2022: 1. Shrine - Bleed From Within 2. Parrhesia - Animals As Leaders 3. Acts Of God - Immolation 4. Netherheaven - Revocation 5. Jord - Soreption 6. In Stasis - Monuments 7. Elegy - Shadow of Intent 8. The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead! - Megadeth 9. DAMNUM - Allegaeon 10. Survival of the Sickest - Bloodbath Honestly there were so many good releases this year 🤘🏾 These past 3 years have been amazing for music imo (especially Metal).
I loved Impera. I first saw Ghost in 2017 opening for Iron Maiden. I had never heard of them and was mesmerized and an immediate convert. I have tickets to see them this summer and cannot wait! It’ll be my second concert with my daughter. She discovered Ghost on Tic Tok 🙄😂
As I agree that all these albums are amazing I think an album that released this year that should either be a high honourable mention or on the top ten is Alexisonfire’s new Album Otherness. It’s a standout album even among other AOF albums due to the creativity and different sounds of each song yet each song still sounding like an AOF song. My favourites of that album being Sweet dreams of otherness, Sans Soleil, and Mistaken Information. I feel like this album goes under the due to the band being a post-hardcore Canadian band but I still believe that this is a top ten album of the year
Pain Remains is absolutely phenomenal and Will has become one of my favorite vocalists. Trinity by Gloom in the Corner needs more people to listen to it of how chaotic and theatrical metalcore can be. My favorite album of the year is Color Decay by The Devil Wears Prada. Emotionally heavy and super catchy, ever since the single Sacrifice I benn obsessed.
I feel like a normie compared to you Extreme Metal/Death freaks Grew up with Linkin Park then Korn then Slipknot (some/few) Tried to listen to Lorna Shore, can't do it but at least I don't hate it compared to most Death Metal Holy Fawn is exhausting to listen to, just two songs tonight. One song tempers the screams well, the other one still has too many or too overpowering screams
@Christian Dauz There is nothing wrong with not vibing with some genres. I can't listen to extreme metal too long. For more rock albums check out SPIRIT by Nothing more and Past Lives by LS Dunes. Both also fantastic
For me, Goodbye June’s “See Where The Night Goes” is my favorite by a long shot. The Nashville band expertly blends southern rock, indie, blues, Gospel, and even a little AC/DC style riffage! Singer Landon Milbourn’s vocal range is insane! Lead single “Step Aside” has recently been used by ESPN for their Top 25” show. You may not have heard of them because they are so damned good live that they are almost impossible to follow! Tyler Baker and Brandon Qualkenbush seem to be ready to become the next great suthern rock duo! Y’all check these guys out! The rest of my top 11- 2. Skid Row- The Gangs All Here 3. Ghost- Impera 4. Ozzy- Patient #9 5. Porcupine Tree- Closure/Continuation 6. Clutch- Sunrise on Slaughter Beach 7. Slash 4 8. RHCP-Unlimited Love 9. RHCP- Return of the dream canteen 10. Alter Bridge- Pawns & Kings 11. Korn- Requiem
I personally really liked Dayseeker's 'Dark Sun' album, although I know you weren't a huge fan haha. I usually come to albums way after the fact, so I listened to Sleep Token's 2021 album 'This Place Will Become Your Tomb' a LOT this year! Look forward to listening to these artists you've listed, thanks!
I love the new Arch Enemy album Decievers. The title track kicks in with goosebump inducing drumming, and Handshake with Hell makes use of Alissa's vocals, from the guttural growls to the powerful highs, to the soft vocal section near the end of the track. In my unprofessional opinion, there isn't a bad song on the album. Definitely worth checking out if you have had the chance to already.
Man how fucking good is the Soul Glo record? I had no expectation that it'd land on this channel, so I got goosebumps when their song kicked off in the vid. Gonna have to relisten for a millionth time. Fave of the year with a bullet.
I'm still blown away by the fact that Alter Bridge hired Myles because at the time Mark thought he wasn't ready to be a lead singer. Fast forward to today, Mark sings lead on some songs... has his side project AND since Myles can also play guitar, there have been concerts where Mark took over singing because Myles was having voice issues. Myles encouraged Mark to sing more and Mark encouraged Myles to play guitar more even going as far as to say Myles is probably a better guitar player than himself. Someday I will get the chance to see Alter Bridge in concert and I can't wait.
My top 10 albums this year 1. Kardashev - Liminal Rite 2. Ithaca - They Fear Us 3. Lorna Shore - Pain Remains 4. Coheed & Cambria - Vaxis 2 5. Monuments - In Stasis 6. Rolo Tomassi - Where Myth Becomes Memory 7. Zeal & Ardor - self titled 8. Enterprise Earth - The Chosen 9. Tallah - The Generation of Danger 10. Motionless in White - Scoring the End of the World
Rock album best of year 1. andrew bird inside problems 2. Alvvays - Blue Rev 3. arctic monkeys the car 4. Maggie Rogers Surrender 5. Jack white fear the dawn 6. The unraveling of puptheband pup 7. Raw Data Feel Everything Everything 8. Sunsleeper While You Can
Here's my 2 absolute favorite records of 2022 that weren't included (cuz they're black metal which isn't to everyone's liking). - Negative Plane - The Pact... this record is a masterpiece 11 years in the making, its black metal in the Italian, and South American style combined with psyche and acid rock. Its perfect - Exordium Mors - As Legends Fade and Gods Die, its the most extreme blackened thrash metal record I've ever heard, imagine the speed of Slayer, combined with the brutality of Morbid Angel and combined with early Sodom.

While I don't think it was the best albums that came out this year, Korn's Requiem was one of the best albums they've released in their later years. Just a 9 song album that's super consistent throughout its run time. Great follow up to 2019's The Nothing
1. Dorothy "Gifts From the Holy Ghost"
2. Stratovarius "Survive"
3. Skid Row "The Gangs All Here"

As someone who HATES Death Metal I tried Lorna Shore's New Album...
...Sorry, still not my taste. Grew up with Linkin Park then moved to Korn, then Slipknot (some), then Trivium (newer stuff), BMTH (TTS) then Bad Omens (2022 Album)
I will give huge respect to Lorna Shore for actually putting effort
Music is neat aint it?
It is definitely neat.
Hell yeah.
Never heard of it.
I like pancakes 🥞
Sure is
Impera played live is an absolute hell of a good time. Seeing Papa dance around the stage and hamming it up to the danceworthy tunes is an experience.
2022 Favorite Albums:
1. Coheed & Cambria Vaxis II: Window of a Waking Mind
2. Sabaton: The War to End all Wars.
Each of these are bloody amazing and such an amazing story in both albums.
Yes!!! War to end all wars is so good!
I totally disagree with Sabaton. I liked the Unkillable Soldier alright but the rest, no
Stormtroopers was my most listened song this year
I've never really listened to Coheed & Cambria but I totally agree with The War to End All Wars.
Some dude screaming endlessly isn't melodic or rhymic
I enjoy a few Slipknot songs but they actually balance their screams
@@christiandauz3742 death metal isnt a tiny minority, its pretty popular and influences a lot of other genres of metal, it just doesnt have any mainstream appeal. but the rest of your comment sounds like boomer bullshit and it seems like you havent actually given extreme metal a fair scratch.
its fine if you dont like it, but coming into a comment section just to give dumb opinions about a genre you dont get isnt very productive

BLATGJ!! GFDVBLARRGHHH!!!!
Death Metal in a nutshell
No wonder Linkin Park or Mettalica or BMTH or Bad Omens or Slipknot or Korn sell more than ALL EXTREME BANDS FUCKING COMBINED!!!
If Lorna Shore just released another EP of just the title track, it would still be album of the year material. Pain Remains is just a stellar record.
I feel like their EP will be their peak. Elegy by Shadow of Intent is still the best deathcore album of the year
Porcupine Tree’s “Closure / Continuation” is definitely worth a listen to all different musical genre listeners.
@@navid_ahmed I saw them in Denver. Great show!
Love this record! Was a 1st day buyer and it lands at #5 in my top 11!
I agree with your list but I can't leave off the song called 'Dignity' off my list!!!
My personal top 5 albums of the year were
1. Rashomon - Ibaraki
2. Ecdysis - Infected Rain
3. The Divine Council - Psycroptic
4. Lotus - Within Destruction
5. Dedication to Flesh - Spite
Honestly super surprised none of these made it onto this list but at the same time so much music comes out that it's understandable. 2022 overall was a VERY good year for music in my opinion.
Heafy's Ibaraki project is so underrated, an extremely well crafted and diverse album. Hope he does more in the future with it.
Infected Rain, good call
Ive never met another person who knew who infected rain was
I am surprised to not see my personal favorite of the year- Nothing More’s “spirits”, as in my mind it is a flawless progression of their previous formula that is equally fun and genuinely good. The surprise coming from how much praise their previous album received by rocked, to clarify.
I couldn’t agree more ; Fuck yeah Nothing More
I think maybe my 2nd favorite of the year
That's what I was thinking. Spirits deserved to be in the top 10 for sure
Their best album by far. Own it on vinyl, it’s that good.
Thanks for bringing Spiritworld to my attention! Deathwestern is an absolute banger. I hope those guys show up for some festival this summer.
Well they're on tour with Kreator and Sepultura this Spring
Top 10 for me in no particular order:
Ghost - Impera
Electric Callboy - Tekkno
Chez Kane - Powerzone
Scorpions - Rock believer
About Us - S/T
Megadeth - The sick, the dying ... and the dead
Reckless Love - Turborider
Fozzy - Boombox
Black Swan - Generation mind
Bloodywood - Rakshak
Alter Bridge - Pawns and Kings
Shinedown - Planet Zero
Megadeth - The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead 🤘
AB and Megadeth kicked ass didn't hear all of shinedown's
fun fact about Ghost's new album: about two weeks before it dropped, the band sponsored a NASCAR car. it was a cool and unique way to promote an album
I just got my diecast of the car in the mail today lol
Straight out of the Kiss playbook lol
And Papa Emeritus took the first swing at the Sox game, lmao.
The second half of the album sounds like total filler to me
I’m glad you included a lot of lesser-known albums here, too many best-of lists are including big-name artists even though their albums this year were clearly a step backward (eg Muse).
Any list adding Muse at their best of the year gets immediately invalidated.
2 albums that deserve honourable mentions for this year are Rakshak by Bloodywood and The Rumble of Thunder by The Hu.
Bloodywood's Rakshak is a great disc. And yes, they are fantastic live.
Holy crap, I was already a fan of Holy Fawn and I had no idea that they dropped an album this year! Thanks for the heads up!!!
Cool vid.
Just wanted to congratulate you on your increase in viewers as of late. Its awesome seeing a bunch of your videos pass 100k views!
Killer top ten list. There are a few albums I haven't heard here (Sunsleeper, Spiritworld) and a few albums I enjoyed but need to spend more time with and just haven't (Wet Leg, Gang of Youths). Here are my top ten favorite albums of 2022.
1. Static Dress - Rouge Carpet Disaster (post-hardcore/emo pop/metalcore)
2. Nechochwen - Kanawha Black (blackened folk metal/progressive rock/death metal)
3. Marrasmieli - Martaiden mailta (atmospheric pagan black metal)
4. Anxious - Little Green House (emo/hardcore punk/pop punk)
5. Pool Kids - Pool Kids (math rock/post-hardcore/pop rock)
6. Metric - Formentera (synth-pop/new wave/indie rock)
7. Brutus - Unison Life (post-hardcore/math rock/post-metal)
8. Mossgiver - The Song Among Branches (atmospheric black metal)
9. Blackbraid - Blackbraid I (atmospheric black metal)
10. Darko US - Oni (progressive deathcore/nu metalcore/mathcore)
Honorable mentions
1. White Ward - False Light (avant-garde post-black metal)
2. The Callous Daoboys - Celebrity Therapist (mathcore/post-hardcore/pop punk)
3. Wormrot - Hiss (grindcore)
4. The Wonder Years - The Hum Goes On Forever (pop punk/emo/alternative rock)
5. Ghost - Impera (hard rock/heavy metal/pop rock)
Pool Kids? Math rock? never heard of them but am intrigued. Going to go check them out
I miss your billboard gets rocked videos. Like this, it helped me find new stuff to listen to.
My top 5:
5. Alpha Games- Bloc Party
I didn’t know how this album would feel compared to 2016’s Hymns but this one really made a turn around the song’s brought back some elements of the band’s earlier output and better production quality. If we get caught was one of my songs I couldn’t stop playing this year so definitely earns a spot.
4. Unlimited Love- RCHP
It felt like a glorious return with John in the band again Black Summer feels like seeing an old friend you haven’t seen in years and this album is no exception it has a much better crop of songs than The Getaway.
3. Zeit- Rammstein
This album was a huge improvement than the 2019 self titled album and 3 years of work was certainly worth the wait. Zick Zack and Adieu I played almost non stop this year. Everything fell into place with upmost precision.
2. Parrhesia- Animals as Leaders
Tosin Abasi never fails at his job and this is no exception. Honestly the best album they have done in a while and even an ambient track on here was one I been waiting for by this band because it feels just right for them to do.
1. The Mars Volta- The Mars Volta
10 years of hiatus and this album surpassed my expectations and I couldn’t be any happier than I am now lyrics, production, instrumentals, vocals, etc A bullseye for Cedric and Omar.
I've only heard a couple of tracks off the new one, now I'm going to have to listen to the whole thing.
The new album by Amon Amarth and Omens by Lamb Of God have both been up there for me this year
Great list, my personal favorite of the year is Color Decay by The Devil Wears Prada. Can’t wait to see what 2023 brings us!
Agreed. An excellent release.
You earned my subscription putting crosses first on the list cheers
Alter Bridge Pawns and Kings for me. Alter Bridge never makes a bad album in my opinion. I mean great opener in This is War .Fantastic ending in Pawns and Kings. Silver Tongue is another banger. Last Man Standing has a great Tremonti Guitar Solo . I also like its one of the shorter albums they have done.
Came here to say this. Preach!! 🤘
I'm surprised it didn't make it his list. They're my favorite band in the history of music and I thought this was one of their best albums ever. While The Last Hero wasn't bad, it's the only album I don't love. I ended up loving this album.
Pawns and Kings is such a great album!
@Rockteam Piss off Fake Rocked
Oh I checked out Tremonti sings Sinatra, holy crap I was blown away. Thanks for that recommendation Luke. 👍
I tend to not have the same music tastes as you, but I was really shocked to see Holy Fawn at 2. Nice pick
Awesome video regardless,though.Keep it up.
It's probably the most unique and constructive list I've seen from a music commentary UA-camr. Thanks man 🤘
Porcupine Tree - CLOSURE/CONTINUATION
Megadeth - The Sick, The Dying...and The Dead
Alter Bridge - Pawns & Kings
To name a few.
Always love your top 10 of the year cause I discover something new and different than I normally listen to! I’m excited to check out sunsleeper
Thanks for showcasing all this music, now I know what I'll be listening to the coming weeks 😀
My favourite this year is "Rakshak" by Bloodywood. Holy hell is it a fresh gust of wind in metal, the songs are so well crafted!
Some personal favorites for me this year: Halo Effect Days of the Lost, Soilwork Overgivenheten, Arch Enemy Deceivers, Coheed and Cambria Vaxus 2, Korn Requiem, Demon Hunter Exile, Ghost Impera, Slipknot The End so Far, and Lamb of God Omens (my personal album of the year)
Albums that I feel were missing
Alter Bridge - Pawns And Kings
Machine Head - Of Kingdom And Crown
Dynazty - Final Advent
Parkway Drive - Darker Still
Bleed From Within - Shrine
Once Human - Scar Weaver
Lamb Of God - Omens
Fit For An Autopsy - Oh What The Future Holds
Fit For A King - The Hell We Create
The Halo Effect - The Days Of The Lost
I am sure I missed some
Pawns and Kings AlterBridge is one excellent album of heavy melodic epic songs!💪
Porcupine Tree is missed for sure and AB I agree a lot better than the Ghost album
I haven't seen a single large channel cover SPIRITS and more people need to listen to NOTHING MORE
They're the best rock band of the past decade
@@HellSpartanZ Bring Me The Horizon, Starset, Royal Blood, Highly Suspect, Nothing But Thieves, Badflower etc should be added as well
@@lethybridtheorygolucastheo2191 I'd definitely put Badflower and Royal Blood up there as best bands of the last decade with Nothing More and Poppy.
Great list! My personal top 5 is
1) Epigone- Wilderun
2) Antimai- The Dear Hunter
3) Lightwork/Nightwork- Devin Townsend
4) Closure/Continuation- Porcupine Tree
5) Impera- Ghost
Two albums that blew me away were
Rabbit Junk - Apocalypse For Beginners
Machine Head - Of Kingdom And Crown
Usually not a huge MH fan, but I do love me some concept albums and it just fit together so well.
I stumbled upon Ado this year, and I liked what I heard. Looking forward to her next endeavor.
Here are my top ten best albums of the year, absolutely loved all of these albums 😁
The Halo Effect: Days Of The Lost
Parkway Drive: Darker Still
Papa Roach: Ego Trip
Ozzy Osbourne: Patient Number 9
Slipknot: The End, So Far
Arch Enemy: Deceivers
Motionless In White: Scoring The End Of The World
Ghost: Impera
Machine Head Of Kingdom And Crown
Trivium: In The Court Of The Dragon
My only honourable mention is Malicious Intent by Malevolence
There are quite a few albums from this year that I definitely need to listen to such as: Omens by Lamb Of God, True Power by I Prevail, Pain Remains by Lorna Shore, Pawns & Kings by Alter Bridge, Planet Zero by Shinedown, There's Only Black by Venom Inc, If The Sky Came Down by Lost Society, The Gang's All Here by Skid Row, The Classic Symptoms Of A Broken Spirit by Architects, The Great Heathen Army by Amon Amarth, Ashes Lie Still by Ingested, Back From The Dead by Halestorm, Explosions by Three Days Grace, Diamond Star Halos by Def Leppard, Wet Leg by Wet Leg and Shrine by Bleed From Within 🤘
True power by I prevail is a solid album!
This is list subject to change:
1 - The Smile - A Light for Attracting Attention - The rhythms alone made this a treat for the ears.
4 - Riverwave - Beach Valley - A E S T H E T I C
5 - Goon - Hour of Green Evening - Folksy indie rock with just the right amount of psychedelia.
Rock album best of year
1. andrew bird inside problems
2. Alvvays - Blue Rev
3. arctic monkeys the car
4. Maggie Rogers Surrender
5. Jack white fear the dawn
6. The unraveling of puptheband pup
7. Raw Data Feel Everything Everything
8. Sunsleeper While You Can
My favorite album this year is The Hum Goes On Forever by The Wonder Years. Easily one of my favorite albums ever! A masterpiece
Hell yes
Beat me to it!
Motionless in White's Scoring The End Of The World wins 2022 for me, absolute fun listen the whole way through! Was also awesome that they had Mick Gordon join in
Interesting list, I'm going to check out at least one or two of these that I missed. My personal top 3 were...
1. Unleash (BAND-MAID)
2. Nonnegative (Coldrain)
3. Yonder (Valiant Hearts)
I personally felt like last year was a fantastic year for albums (it was so damn hard to pick a favorite), whereas this year there were more singles/tracks that stood out, but less albums.
If I go with my top 5 favorite albums I have two lists considering small things
Top 5 studio only:
The Hatch - Shape of Raw to Come > John Zorn - John Zorn's Bagatelles (Vol. 9-12) > Mental Fracture > Disaccord > Porcupine Tree - Closure/Continuation > The Smile - A Light for Attracting Attention
Top 5 including live and archive releases:
The Hatch - Shape of Raw to Come > John Zorn - John Zorn's Bagatelles (Vol.
So glad ghost and rammstein on this list. Impera is my favourite album this year and ziet is probably my 3rd fav
Lorna Shore - Pain Remains
Blind Guardian - The God Machine
Shadow of Intent - Elegy
Darko US - Oni
Gaerea - Mirage
Fit For An Autopsy - Oh What the Future Holds
Temple of Void - Summoning the Slayer
Septic Flesh - Modern Primitive
Immolation - Acts of God
Worm Shepherd - Ritual Hymns
Honorable Mentions:
Autopsy - Morbidity Triumphant
Chelsea Grin - Suffer in Hell
Enterprise Earth - The Chosen
Meshuggah - Immutable
Lamb of God - Omens
A Wake in Providence - Eternity
AngelMaker - Santum
Awesome video! Great to be introduced to new music. Maybe at June do a half year update for next albums through 6 months!! Keep up the awesome videos.
My favorite album was "Dark Sun" by Dayseeker, followed by "Vaxis II" by Coheed. That Dayseeker took my by surprise though, and I love it.
I'm still picking through some 2022 releases I missed, but here are my favorites this year, in no particular order outside of my #1 (and it's not even close, despite how much I love every other album on this list):
1. Ashenspire - Hostile Architecture
2. Witchery - Nightside
3. Darkest Era - Wither on the Vine
4. End It - Unpleasant Living*
5. Lorna Shore - Pain Remains
6. Holy Fawn - Dimensional Bleed
7. Backxwash - HIS HAPPINESS SHALL COME FIRST EVEN THOUGH WE ARE SUFFERING
8. Chat Pile - God's Country
9. Sonja - LOUD ARRIVER
10. High Command - Eclipse of the Dual Moons
11. Konvent - Call Down the Sun
12. SpiritWorld - DEATHWESTERN
*technically an EP, but fuck it. best hardcore punk I've heard in years. the riffs and vox are killer.
didn't make the list, but I enjoyed them well enough:
Zeal & Ardor - Zeal & Ardor¹
Ghost - Impera²
Black Cross Hotel - Hex
¹I'm still percolating on it. loved Stranger Fruit and Wake of a Nation, and there are amazing cuts on it. not sure if I love it fully as an album tho.
²I didn't just want Meliora II or Prequelle II, I just think it's their worst material to date, imo. lower lows, lower highs. Impera doesn't have a "Cirice" or a "Rats" or a "Square Hammer" or a "Witch Image" or a "Ritual" or a "Kiss the Go-Goat" or a "Body and Blood" that I would put up there as one of their absolute best songs. still pretty enjoyable, but it just leaves me saying, "I know they can do better than this."
non metal or punk:
Silvana Estrada - Marchita
Ari Lennox - age/sex/location
Backxwash - HIS HAPPINESS SHALL COME FIRST EVEN THOUGH WE ARE SUFFERING (counting it as both because it's technically rap, but it's the most metal album this year)
Quadeca - I Didn't Mean to Haunt You
Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time
SZA - SOS
Love the PERMANENT.RADIANT mention!
My personal favorite for the year is Ghost. The songs have that feeling of longevity to them and every time I hear it I enjoy it more and more! Lot of great albums this year. Was really surprised no mention of NothingMore Spirits on any aspect of the channel
@Rockednet1 I didn’t know there was a contest what did I win out of curiosity!!
Thanks to this video I have found SpiritWorld's DeathWestern for the fist time. I didn't realise that my life was missing a thrash horror spaghetti western until now. My favourite this year was Zeal & Ardor's self titled album, not as amazing as Devil is Fine but still pretty damn good
Cool stuff. Could you do most disappointing albums of the year too?
We have a few in common on our top 10. Will check out 4 albums here I did not listen to.
Good to see common ground.
@@RockedNet yes I cant believe I missed Holy Fawn I thought that was coming out next year.
Glad to see Wet Leg on here! I loved their debut album and I hope to hear more of their music in the future!!
Scorpions Rock Believer was my personal favorite, I didn’t realize they were still around but SO glad they’re still making great music.
Mickey Dee has breathed new life into that band!
Here are my picks for Best Album of 2022:
Ants from Up There by Black Country, New Road
Hellfire by Black Midi
Spirit of Ecstasy by Imperial Triumphant
Hostile Architecture by Ashenspire
Learning to Dissolve by Orthodox
Neat by Neat
Chirals by Périsélène
This World is Going to Ruin You by Vein
Impera by Ghost
Remember That You Will Die by Polyphia
Rock album best of year
1. andrew bird inside problems
2. Alvvays - Blue Rev
3. arctic monkeys the car
4. Maggie Rogers Surrender
5. Jack white fear the dawn
6. The unraveling of puptheband pup
7. Raw Data Feel Everything Everything
8. Sunsleeper While You Can
Oh, shoot. How could I forget The Generation of Danger by Tallah?
idk if youve checked them out but you NEED to listen to the album Heroine by Thornhill. a drastic change in tone and feel from their 2019 album (which is equally as good imo), heroine has its own character and unique flavour that does not get stale. the narrative and flow the tracks have pace really well as an album and youre doing a disservice by not hearing them out. songs like The Hellfire Club, Hollywood and Blue Velvet are some of my favourites from it, but its honestly hard to do that.
Similarly, Porucpine Tree's new album sounded great and would definitely recommend that
hope i could sell some people on these 😁
Good to see Holy Fawn ranked this high on the list. These guys have a really unique sound. I first heard of this band after Randy Blythe from Lamb of God posted about Death Spells.
Good list! Sad Mars Volta and Coheed missed out on honorables, but I get it!
My favorite albums of this year have to be
1. Fascination--The Birthday Massacre (Definitely my favorite album of the year. It was so well made and I just couldn't get enough of it)
2. The Alchemy Project--Epica (I know it is an EP but it was sooo amazing that I can't stop listening to The Miner and Sirens)
3. Pirates--Visions of Atlantis (a huge surprise for me and to me their best album to date)
4. Revel in Time--Arjen Lucassen's Star One (great music by Arjen, one of my favorite guitarists and it introduced me to Brittany Slayes and Unleash the Archers which I am beyond grateful for)
5. Comalies XX--Lacuna Coil (I was not expecting them to remix their classic album Comalies, but I really enjoyed the new spin of the songs)
6. The God Machine--Blind Guardian (Very epic and a great return of one of my new favorite bands)
7. Zeit--Rammstein (So many great songs in this fantastic album that I definitely listened to it a lot this year)
I am so looking forward to their next album as well.
thank you for reviewing deathwestern. im not even a big metal fan but love this album.
now im out to try out crosses, chino's side project
Holy Fawn!!!! Best band in decades!!!! Much props for bringing them (along with Randy Blythe from Lamb of God saying theyre prior album Death Spells was the BEST album of 2018)....sooo fucking good!!
thee unknown is absolutely right. HOLY FAWN has music you can feel. da unknown, also has a great point, Death Spells was praised by some of the top rock insiders. the unknown, keep whipping the long hair around 🤘🤘🤘rock on...
Interesting list, including some releases that were completely off my radar.
Here's some other albums released this year that I think are definitely worth checking out:
Amon Amarth - The Great Heathen Army
Blind Guardian - The God Machine
Clutch - Sunrise on Slaughter Beach
Corpsegrinder - Corpsegrinder
Disillusion - Ayam
GWAR - The New Dark Ages
Heilung - Drif
The Hu - Rumble of Thunder
KMFDM - Hyena
Morbikon - Ov Mournful Twilight
Municipal Waste - Electrified Brain
Sabaton - The War to End All Wars
Sakis Tolis - Among the Fires From Hell
Wednesday 13 - Horrifier
Zeal and Ardor - Zeal & Ardor
God there's a whole bunch of albums on here I NEVER heard but I am kicking myself for not doing so sooner. I gotta get on Soul Glo and Spiritworld!
Anyhow, here's my top albums for this year, no particular order:
Lorna Shore - Pain Remains
Bad Omens - THE DEATH OF PEACE OF MIND
Electric Callboy - TEKKNO
Bloodywood - Rakshak
Nothing More - SPIRITS
Fit for a King - The Hell we Create
Palaye Royale - Fever Dream

3. arctic monkeys the car
4. Maggie Rogers Surrender
5. Jack white fear the dawn
6. The unraveling of puptheband pup
7. Raw Data Feel Everything Everything
8. Sunsleeper While You Can
"Replicaate" Great list you have. Here are my favourite albums this year (Some of them won't be rock or metal btw so don't judge me)
1. Northlane-Obsidian
2. Thornhill-Heroine
3. Maggie Rogers-Surrender
4. The Gloom in the Corner-Trinity
5. Taylor Swift-Midnights
And also, if you mind, here are my favourite movies and TV Shows this year (Same thing with albums)
Favourite shows
1. Wednesday
2. Cobra Kai
3. The Flight Attendant
4. Only Murders in the Building
Favourite movies
1. The Batman
I saw the warning live this past year and they were very good
I've heard a lot of good things about The Warning.
I was worried when I couldn't find any Sabaton representation in here. Thank you
@@markjames8664 Pau also sang on "23," which is my favorite on the album, possibly tied with the title track.
Solid picks with some bands I have not heard of
I am very surprised but very glad to hear Moon Tooth on this list! I found these guys after having them come recommended on Bandcamp and it's probably in my top 2 albums for this year.
My personal top 10 albums of 2022:
1. Shrine - Bleed From Within
2. Parrhesia - Animals As Leaders
3. Acts Of God - Immolation
4. Netherheaven - Revocation
5. Jord - Soreption
6. In Stasis - Monuments
7. Elegy - Shadow of Intent
8. The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead! - Megadeth
9. DAMNUM - Allegaeon
10. Survival of the Sickest - Bloodbath
Honestly there were so many good releases this year 🤘🏾 These past 3 years have been amazing for music imo (especially Metal).
I'm a huge fan of RHCP (I know, don't @ me!) and they released two albums this year! Those are very close to the top for me
"skindreads" It's alright. RHCP is my 7'th favourite band tied with Foo Fighters
I feel like a normie compared to you Extreme Metal/Death freaks
Grew up with Linkin Park then Korn then Slipknot (some/few)
Tried to listen to Lorna Shore, can't do it but at least I don't hate it compared to most Death Metal
Holy Fawn is exhausting to listen to, just two songs tonight.
My top 10 albums this year
1. Kardashev - Liminal Rite
2. Ithaca - They Fear Us
3. Lorna Shore - Pain Remains
4. Coheed & Cambria - Vaxis 2
5. Monuments - In Stasis
6. Rolo Tomassi - Where Myth Becomes Memory
7. Zeal & Ardor - self titled
8. Enterprise Earth - The Chosen
9. Tallah - The Generation of Danger
10. Motionless in White - Scoring the End of the World
Rock album best of year
1. andrew bird inside problems
2. Alvvays - Blue Rev
3. arctic monkeys the car
4. Maggie Rogers Surrender
5. Jack white fear the dawn
6. The unraveling of puptheband pup
7. Raw Data Feel Everything Everything
8. Sunsleeper While You Can
Going to check out Sunsleeper and Gang of Youths though - they sound good
Mark Tremonti all fuckin day!!! There's nothing that man can't do. Certainly one of the world's most talented musicians in the last 25yrs
Tremonti kicks ass for sure
🎉great selection
Here's my 2 absolute favorite records of 2022 that weren't included (cuz they're black metal which isn't to everyone's liking).
- Negative Plane - The Pact... this record is a masterpiece 11 years in the making, its black metal in the Italian, and South American style combined with psyche and acid rock. Its perfect
- Exordium Mors - As Legends Fade and Gods Die, its the most extreme blackened thrash metal record I've ever heard, imagine the speed of Slayer, combined with the brutality of Morbid Angel and combined with early Sodom.
