Tim, you have a highly individual and rather quirky approach to capturing images. I enjoyed every single minute of this video, well done!

Thank you Martin - glad you enjoyed it. The standard fare at Carlisle is a procession of Pendolinos, Novas and Class 156/158 units - none of which I find at all inspiring. It thus becomes essential to find a new way of presenting them, for my own sake as much as for the viewer's.
Ditto the freight - mostly half-mile long collections of blue boxes, although there are some interesting variations from time to time.
It's the steam that really interests me and Carlisle is blessed with more of it than anywhere else in Britain. Unfortunately, in the aftermath of Covid and industrial unrest, there's no steam at Carlisle just now - and won't be for some months to come, leaving me at a bit of a loose end.
C'est la vie! Best wishes to you.

@@schoolshorts Hi again Tim, I confess to having a rather soft spot for Scots Guardsman, a couple of years ago I enjoyed my one and only trip over the S and C behind this engine, twelve coaches and no diesel banker, in glorious sunshine. He (She?) was running like a sewing machine and put in a wonderful performance . Truly a day to remember! Keep up the good work. Best wishes.

Another thoroughly enjoyable video especially the Upperby aerial shots. I used to be able to always walk down right to the engine side during servicing a few years back until they upgraded the security.
Fond memories of walking across a very long footbridge from the side of the tracks where you filmed from, right across all the tracks and into Upperby sheds during my happy schoolboy train spotting days. Thanks again Tim

There's still a footbridge there but, since electrification it has been built up so high that it's impossible to film from it.
There are lots of old films showing the public wandering happily on the tracks - nowadays we aren't even allowed to go near the platform edge!

Thanks Martin - I'm still learning how to handle that particular piece of equipment and the vagaries of the weather and the restrictions imposed by law mean that I don't get as much practice as I would like. Hopefully it will add to future videos.

Great video, that track is a mess though. Not surprised there’s a 20mph limit. I managed to see 46115 at Hellifield 5 or 6 years ago, good to see her in great shape. I think I heard she was given a wash and brush up.
    Keep up the good work!

Weedy tracks seem to be commonplace in stations these days and I can only presume that chemical spraying - very effective out on the open line - is not permitted in enclosed stations for health and safety reasons. The speed limit is down to the severe curve through the station - just listen to the wheel-flanges squealing on the trains as they pass through!
I'll try to keep up the good work.

A difficult place to film from the air as it's illegal to fly over the railway so filming has to be done from a considerable distance - with a very limited zoom.

@@schoolshorts Yes. It was still good to see though. I wonder if you could get a view from the car park of the building with blue fencing round the roof near where the tanker is parked. I saw people standing by the fence there one day.

Hi Tim!! You have achieved another pearl where the railway environment is shown in its real expression, passenger traffic, merchandise. I am amazed at the cleanliness and neatness of the infrastructure, rolling stock, platforms. I appreciate mentioning once again, your professionalism in capturing the spirit and magic of Carlisle. Past and present technologies converge (steam traction), diesel electric and electric traction. If I want to be inopportune, my curiosity makes me ask you: where do the freight trains with wooden logs go? The light blue tank cars they transport. I reiterate my thanks for generously sharing your videos. With my eternal nostalgia for Scotland, I say goodbye to you stay well and the best of luck.👍👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇦🇷🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Thanks Norberto - always good to hear from you.
The wooden logs go to Chirk on the border between England and Wales where they are used to manufacture hardboard.
The blue tank cars are waiting for autumn and leaf-fall which causes adhesion problems for locomotives - they are used to spray the rails and help to solve the problem.
      Every good wish to you.

Great video as usual. Nice to finally meet you at Carlisle sorry I co starred in one of your shots I do try to fit in generally with other people doing their films and not get in the way! I can see why now when you were not around what you were doing and impressed by your drone shots how high up was it filmed from Tm? I am sure we will cross paths again for a catch up .Thanks for sharing Brian

I enjoy watching your regular filming of the traffic at Carlisle. Did you deliberately swing the camera around perpendicular to the Northern Belle stock, so you could make a 'Hitchcock' type appearance in the film ??!! 😁😁

    • @schoolshorts
      @schoolshorts  2 роки тому

In a word - no! I don't actually like seeing my reflection in train windows but sometimes it simply can't be avoided. I was never blest with film-star good looks.

Very nice 👍 video 👍 .a comment? I wonder how a G.W.R. 4.6.0. County class loco with a double ⏩ chimney and good Welsh coal in the tender would do over the S.& C. Line with a similar load? Could be interesting 😜? just a comment.
