Good reaction.🦊🤘 'Karate' was the lead single for their second album (2016). It is about fighting adversity, when life knocks you down and everything seems too hard so you're hurt and crying, its about standing up and fighting on, helping each other through the hard times. They used karate to illustrate this because as a Japanese martial art it reflects their culture - as with a lot of their songs it is also about always moving forwards. You were right, in the video the figures in white were the girls all along and they were conjuring up their own inner demons to fight against. They beat the first, the second knocked them down but they got up to eventually defeat themselves (did you notice the reflections of each of the girls in their own eyes when the masks shattered and it was revealed as them? Not many people spot that). They did watch a lot of martial arts movies to get ideas for the choreo as they wanted it to look as authentic as possible (but they are not martial artists). Moa catching the fly was a nod to Mr Miyagi in The Karate Kid. Mr Miyagi may have used chop sticks (and it may have taken him two or three films before he caught one), Moa caught her fly with her eyes closed - first time. She also let it go, we all know Moa is the sweetest person on the planet and she wouldn't hurt a fly. This song and video won 2 awards. "Best Metal Video in MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2016" and "Best Metal Song in 6th Annual Loudwire Music Awards".
⚡ 💀 💕 / 👻 👻 👻 Like a lot of BABYMETAL songs, this one has a positive message about facing challenges, both internal and external. For this one, Su, Yui and Moa watched a lot of martial arts movies and worked with their choreographer MIKIKO to incorporate those kinds of moves into the dance routine. Did you spot the reference to 'Karate Kid' (or even earlier martial arts movies) when Moa caught the fly? Of course she lets it go unharmed. Her catch phrase, based on her given name Moa (最愛), was "Treasure love the most". There's a good reason this was the featured single from the second album. They made a lot of friends by playing a bunch of metal festivals, and this song converted quite a few. As is usually the case, the riffs are even heavier live.
Nice reaction, thanks! Yeah, five years passed between the "DDM" video (filmed in 2011) and this one (2016). When I discovered them in late 2019 there was a moment when I had to stop watching every video randomly and started watching everything in strict chronological order. I'm not saying it's applicable to you, but it was quite an experience to literally see them grow. "Karate" is on their poppier side (in my opinion). But that main riff comes out from nowhere and hits you like a bus.And it hits harder live, of course. 😁 They were fighting their inner demons here. It was themselves in those masked figures and, if you pay attention, they even appear in the reflection of their eyes in the end. This music video is one of their best (if not the best: multiple award winning, etc.) and it pretty much explains the lyrics, which are about resilience and endurance. Su-metal mentioned in an interview that karate perfectly represents this metaphor because it's the only martial art without "ukemi" (the techniques used in many martial arts to fall "properly"). 🤘🦊
Awesome Sofi-metal! This is a very cool MV. Babymetal finds the courage to fight their own inner demons to move towards their dreams! And I agree, there is something special about experiencing their content in chronological order to see them grow from bubbly amazing kids to energetic, and bad-a** young adults! 🤣 I just saw this song live a month ago in DC and it was awesome (even though this song replaced my favorite - Monochrome, on the setlist🥲). 🤘🦊
Nice reaction as always. This is the video that randomly dropped into my feed and got me back into BabyMetal so special for me. It also does the black and white with just red to break it up style as with the MV for Headbanger. As you're an anime fan you should do their very recent collaboration with Bloodywood which I guarantee you'll enjoy. ua-cam.com/video/skXlKxjlUoo/v-deo.html
Great reaction, Sofimetal! This is probably my favorite MV. It tells the story pretty well and is easy to follow. Good job figuring out that the ghost figures were actually the girls themselves. Now, you just need to watch a good live version and all will be right with the world. For what's worth, I noticed your hair was different. I wasn't entirely sure if the highlights were real or if your lights were just hitting your hair just right, lol. It looks good! See you next time!

The intro already looks awesome!!!
(They did only one anime opening) Great you got that they defeated their "demons" who are themselves and be strong.
Babymetal are playing London's O2 Arena on May 30th. Did you get your ticket yet?🔥🦊🤘
I will try!!!
