Almost feels like trying to convert someone into a religion when you manage to get a friend hooked into VR, and like a religion I bet just like myself when you said "he's gone and got a headset", all VR player smiled at the same time!
VR = salvation
The most horrible thing is when everything goes wrong when you finally convince your friend to join our VR cult and they manage to escape it.
I was convincing my friend for YEARS to get VR. He finally got Q3, and just 2 weeks later he returned it.
Everything went wrong.
1. He took a device referal link from reddit to get $60, but I guess he did something wrong bcs he didn't get it.
2. He had to re-download Asgard's Wrath II 2 times because of some error, and once he finally got it, he got motion sickness even though I told him, he should play some casual games first.
3. He had a black dead pixel in the middle of the screen, he had to return it and get a new device.
4. He struggled for quite some time to adjust his headset and told me his head and face hurts.
5. He got extremely dissapointed with the Netflix app because of the resolution.
6. He realized there is once again a dead pixel on his 2nd headset.
He returned it once again, and just gave up. He was extremely unlucky, but for the love of god I can't just convince him that was the case. He says "Good for you, but VR is still just a gimmick and not worth it for me. I won't be coming back, it's still years into the future"
I'm angry, but also sad. Us VR veterans don't even realize how starting in VR is not user friendly. We were all excited nerdy tech guys who jumped into VR in its early years. But those are not the regular, casual players anymore. And they gave a hard time, especially if some companies mess up quality control or just simply don't care.
My friend lives in another country, so I wasn't able to be there with him, set up everything for him, and walk him through everything that might be difficult for a VR beginner. Kids don't have this issue as they have a lot of free time, and naturally don't care figuring stuff out for hours. Sadly, this no longer applies to adults.
However, me physically being there with him and helping him to get the best possible first impression shouldn't even be a thing! His first impression was horrible because of a blend of bad design and bad luck, and it caused us a person who would most likely enjoy VR a lot.
This hurts me, and makes me angry and sad. I was so looking forward to having someone to play VR with...

I am not a person that likes to have company over but in the case of VR I roll out the red carpet.
If you have an interest I invite you over for a full demo night because I cant explain the world of difference until your in a headset.

This went very dark very quickly. From new gym buddy to Dahmer in just a few minutes. I genuinely chuckled, though.
I've only been into VR since I bought a Quest 3 last year and I've tried to explain to some work colleagues and "gym buddies" how much different it feels to regular flat screen gaming. You can try to explain but there's really no substitute for just jumping in. I imagine with Matteo, he just takes that enthusiasm to a whole new level as VR is effectively his job and his passion. "Welcome to the VR fold brother!"

@@michelverheijen6643 Facebook's headset + appstore would be profitable. They're losing because of the billions they somehow managed to sink into that dystopian horizons worlds. Just playing that app can literally brick your headset if anyone decides you offended them. Permanent ban from Meta's devices, without due process.

This is shaping up to be a great year for VR. With great games coming out and new headset options, very excited. VR enthusiasts, we need to support these games.
The google earth one looks so cool. I love going back to places I have lived and check it out.
I was an early adopter with the original HTC Vive. Two of my favorite experiences were Google Earth VR, and Universe Sandbox. Both are just very relaxing experiences, but provide hours of entertainment when you're in that mood. I'll definitely be checking out Earth Quest.
I don't know what is going on in Thrasher but I want to play it. Couple of those games look like fun to play with guild mates. Excited about a few today. Thank you for the update.

As a retired flight attendant, Earth Quest seems cool to me (revisiting some places). Blade and Sorcery is being updated on my gaming PC as I'm writing now.... looking forward to try it out. Hopefully my "moviemode" (referring to that guy who says I like watching movies instead of playing cool games) I hope that the choice to be immortal is still there...
Wait that door is really cool 0:50. Looks like a decal maybe? I think I may get miracle pool, ForeVR pool is really good though. Good to see blade and sorcery finally getting substantial updates. It looks pretty rough on quest nomad version. Battle talent is still superior with how many weapons and things they added.

I wish that B&S update came to the Quest sooner. B&S and Boneworks were the 2 games I looked at before I had VR that made me drool. I still haven't gotten to play Boneworks, but hopefully, one day.

Hi! Great video as always. Could I suggest a topic? I love my Quest 3 but I struggle cos I can’t stand for more than a minute or 2 due to a bad back. So many games seem to rely on you standing. Could you do a piece on games that can be played sitting down?

On SteamVR, I've been playing demos to some upcoming releases, and the ones which I've been most impressed with so far are "Frenzy Blood" and "Axe Gang"
"Frenzy Blood" which comes out some time in 2024 on PCVR has the most realistic graphics I ever seen in a VR game and the game looks like it's going to be a great game, however, the demo does have a few bugs .
"Axe Gang" has got some nice crisp graphics as well.
I also played "Pirates VR: Jolly Roger" which was a bit of a letdown for me because the trailer made the game look so good, in fact, I thought it was going to be like an Assassin's Creed game but it wasn't what I expected. The visuals look great with a lot of detail but the game is not my style.
I was highly impressed by "Subside" because I felt like I actually went swimming and scuba diving in real life.
"Evilspunk" was kind of fun but I was confused about what was going on because Robot Zombies were popping up from all directions.
"Nitro Nation VR" is the only car racing game I've played where you open the car door with your hand by grabbing the door handle and pulling it open, and after you sit in the car you have to grab the door with your hand and pull it to shut it just like in a real car.
The game seems like fun but a graphics update will help. It definitely looks and plays better than Downtown club on Meta Quest.
I'm still yet to try the following demos:
1. Agent Simulation
2. Frigid VR
3. Tomb Explorer VR
4. Rusty's Day off: Episode one - Janitor on Duty.
5. Cold VR

Great video! Have you checked out cyberpunks vr mod? Its supposedly really well made. I'm getting a quest 3 Thursday. There's so much cool stuff coming to vr right now.
If you're talking about the Luke Ross cyberpunk mod, I wouldn't say it's well-made, it's just the better option (out of 2) to play cyberpunk in vr. Please play some actual VR games before trying that mod out because it's cool to experience cyberpunk in VR but it's definitely not the best example of a VR experience. There's lots of ghosting around moving objects. All Luke Ross mods are actually one of the poorer VR mod experiences. They just happen to be for some of the games people want to experience in VR the most.
I am really looking forward to playing Riven in vr, but it's got to be the pc version I can't bear to see quest graphics on that game.
LG probably looked at Apple's Vision Pro sales, the current size of the VR market and the comparative success of high end headsets, and decided in wasn't worth the effort. Unfortunate, because I'm really hoping for companies to copy the Meta, "If you build it, they will come" approach (yes, I know it's a misquote).

Blade And Sorcery should be fun. As far as Earthquest goes it's about time, but i'm waiting for a proper GoogleEarthVR with Maps if possible! would be awesome!

Miracle Pool in MR I’m definitely looking forward to. MR games in general flip the main arguments against XR 180°. Virtual Reality cuts us off from the world, it’s harder to teach people the mechanics of VR, and it’s harder to teach how to use those mechanics to play the games. With things like MR Pool, or chess, or classic board games; it turns all that around. Games people already understand are used as fun teaching tools to lean XR mechanics, and noobs aren’t cut off from the world.
Classic MR games IMNSHO are the best option for (generally speaking) bringing noobs into XR.
Past that, the next game in this list that I’m very interested to see Mannequin. I’m a firm believer that XR is (again, generally speaking) at its peak in social/multiplayer gaming, although there are plenty of awesome single player games too.
Lastly, about the cost of higher end headsets…
XR is up against the emotional memory of what us Gex-Xers and older Millennials remember $1,000 to be. When we were kids, sure $1,000 was an outrageous cost to anything. It’s not nothing, but $1,000 just ain’t what it used to be, but there’s strong justification for a Quest headset that could break that price point.
That said, a headset sold at $950 would in my opinion sell so much better than the same headset that costs $1,001. Breaking that price point is toxic, and might as well be dead on arrival.
But for historical inflationary context, the Atari 2600 was $200 when it launched, that translates to about $1,000 in today’s money. It’s 2024, not 1984.

I'm not sure about Blade and Sorcery 1.0. I'm not really into sandbox type experiences but I do like similar types of games with single player campaigns like Asgard's wrath. So it depends on what "basically be like an 8 hour single player campaign" means - is it more sandbox like with some vague goals or is it really a single player campaign?
Google Earth VR is a top tier VR experience. I love it. I never had faith in LG as a company anyways. I felt it was a bad fit.
Thanks for the video. In this video. the Miracle Pool game looks very good. Ii am always interested in VR sports games and I also do allot of PCVR SIM racing games with the Quest 3.

Ah, There is on STEAM a game called Troll Hunter VR but it is a "to be announced" game, so maybe sometime in the future. Not much about it. In discussions some say that this is a DEAD GAME, not going to be made. So much for Troll games.

Fr! I like to introduce people onto google earth type games. People love to revisit their old neighborhoods or simply an old vacation spot.
For sure. Also, I see there is a market for the elderly, I introduced my mother to VR (with Kayak VR) and she loved it. There are many people who don't have the means/energy/time to visit places and things like Google Earth VR is totally cool for them.

Once the numbers were in on VR.. (i.e. low usage in the world which translates to low profits) I realized my Index was just going to keep gathering dust. Developers have jumped ship.

@@SmartLightDimwit I’ve seen it and it looks fun! Hopefully, it's available for the Quest too. I was reading some comments, and a few people expressed disappointment with the floating hands. Hopefully, they update that because, in my opinion, it needs a full-body point of view.
It would be cool if UFC made a VR game and included a face-slapping feature as well.
I feel like there's so much potential missing in the VR gaming community. There are so many games that could have been made into VR versions, like a unique take on GTA.
Hopefully, we get some cool titles soon.

Which headset did you show your friend for PCVR?
I used my quest 3 and quest pro. My index is setup as wireless with the nofio and it just sucks and you can't share the bigscreen beyond. I worked really hard on the wireless performance, wifi 6e, pc is wired, Max settings, the performance is great with minimal latency
To compete with Vision Pro, Meta needs to team up with Nvidia. Imagine DLSS and ray tracing in standalone format just like next switch this year.
Ray tracing would make the quest explode .
and i think fsr3 is on par if not better than dlss at this point (don't quote me on that tho)
DLSS has a base latency hit that makes it just not as game changing as it is for pancake. And for ray tracing then we also get into heat and battery life and yet more latency, and latency is the bane of VR.
And FSR has shimmering and occlusion artifacts that are worse than DLSS or XESS, but again these just aren't as game changing when you're trying for completely locked 120fps with zero frame drops that VR needs on mobile hardware at 15w. There need to be substantial performance gains at that skew of hardware more than anything.

What’s happening with the Xbox VR headset?
They aren't really making an Xbox vr headset. It won't play any Microsoft games. It would just come with Xbox cloud streaming and a controlle4
yay... more tiny indy mobile apps with wave based small arenas, linear "story" mode if one at all, janky co-op if any at all, no full body tracking support, no support for anything other than the base game that comes out and doesnt get touched for months because the devs took the money and ran to the bank. just what the oversaturated vr bloatware market is in desperate need for more of.
