- Today we travelled from Kota Bharu to the Perhentian Islands.
Perhentian consists of Pulau Kecil (small island) and Besar (big island). We chose Coral Beach on Pulau Kecil as our final destination; with it's clear blue waters and ultimate tropical vibes.
This is our first island experience in Malaysia and we can honestly say that this is off to a perfect start. Especially after working so hard to get here. This is what being digital nomads is about.

Who has also visited the Perhentian Islands and which island do you prefer? Kecil or Besar? 🌴
Been to both. Prefer kecil. Love how cheap it is
i would prefer Besar.. Long Beach more happening at night.. more life there.. do go to the windmill..
The differences between besar and kecil are crowds and activity. In besar its more subtle and quiet at nights and most of the big resorts are located there. For budget accomodation and walk in hostels most of them are on perhentian kecil. If you like partying then long beach which is 10minutes trail away from coral bay. The reason that it seems quiet is because of ramadhan so if you plan to have the beach to yourself go during ramadhan. Got some videos of perhentian island on my channel .

Spent a couple of months on that beach in 2000 working at one of the guesthouses (was called DJs). Was no internet, not much electricity and only a few travelers. Was paradise for backpackers. Fond memories.
Not many tourists. Because during ramadhan. Enjoy guy’s. 💙
I have been to Perhentian Besar and Perhentian Kecil but hate to break it to you guys, if you love a small island that you can have it for yourself, I would love to recomment Kapas Island. Took a bus from Kuala Besut to Kuala Terengganu, and from Kuala Terengganu took a bus to Marang. It only 15-20 minutes from mainland to the Island. You can save more by staying in the tent. Absolutely my favourite island in the country :)

Yes , during Ramadan people seldom go out so the best time to visit anywhere in Malaysia is during Ramadan to avoid the busy crowd everywhere. Only that when it comes to break of fast and you are hungry be at the restaurant 2 hours ahead of the break of fast time to avoid disappointment.

We think that 3-4 days in Perhentian Island is probably enough. Not too sure of other islands on that side 😇

We haven't been to Perhentian Island. Just visited the island near by Perhentian called Redang Island right last month. Coral Bay looks lovely!
We have heard a lot of good things about Redang island. Will add it to the list
i miss perhentian island. Don't forget to climb up to windmill or maybe there's taxi boat you can ride to there. If you climb up, the track is on the end of long beach and it's quite challenging cause after you get to windmill, you gonna have to walk down via 'challenging' stairs. The view is very beautiful but unfortunately the lower stair cases have not been maintained. AND DO IT IN THE VERY MORNING cause you won't spend much under the hot sun.

Been to both Perhentian Islands for 20 years.
Kecil is more for singles n couples.
Besar is more for Families.
And note that you can see Nemo just by snorkelling from the beach..as in 10meters away from beach at Perhentian Besar...which am not gonna tell which beach .... :-)

For sure, you are safe from local tourist traffic...
Based on the comments, Redang Island is already in your list. But u may check out Tenggol Island too, you guys can dive with the whale shark is ure lucky! And Sabah in East Malaysia also have lotsss of beautiful islands such as Sipadan Island, Bohey Dulang, etc
You're in my hometown besut... if you in the mainland you can go to waterfall such Lata Belatan,Lata Tembakah and LA hot spring.

La Hot Spring and Lata Tembakah is the perfect place to chill. Been there twice. Really recommend.

Coral Bay and Long Beach.. I've been there so many times, Long Beach would be my choice.. Beside, Perhentian Island, you guys should try Redang Island too..

the waters are pretty similar. It would be hard to choose between the two. Both are very very nice!!! no complaints

its not busy because its Ramadan month. Also there will be so many food stall there selling fried foods, drinks and more. But its okay.
Try use taxi going to Pulau Rawa !! That is Johor Royal Highness Island Beach !!!
Nasrul Farid hahaha unfortunately, that taxi wont bring the tourist to the Rawa Island in Johor. They also have Rawa Island in Terengganu. Same name, but different location. Lol but Rawa Island in Johor is much more happening with the slides straight into the sea mmm

It would be on November and Disember just because we've be having our 2month- year-end holidays...so grateful beacause of that ...😁😁in fact we got a lot of holidays here...such as for a pregnant mum -about 2-4month etc

shahril rosli dik, as far as i know, the island in Terengganu including Perhentian island is closed for the public in Nov-Feb due to the monsoon season. June is probably the bussiest time i guess due to the mid year holiday, and yep people are avoiding to stay outdoor during Ramadhan including going to the islands.
Shame on me😅😅 Im totally dont reminded to this ...... thanks for that fact

I can't actually remember the price of beer but yes..everything is more expensive in Perhentian Islands as of course it cost them to import everything to the island, etc :)

His real name is Daniel Tyler from Bristol.... His local name is Mat Dan a self made celebrity in Malaysia after having stayed in Pulau Kapas (Cotton island) also in Terenggau since 2009. What was to be a short stay turned out years, he loves the island so much. He is kind of cute he mastered the local dialect (very different from the rest of the country). That's what makes him famous cos even the rest of us can't speak it well :))

Beer For Breakfast I was there last weekend before ramadan with my office staff and family. Me and kids can’t stop snorkling for over four hours. Rawa spot is insane. I should be aquaman
