    Will look forward to you taking it apart, I will need to follow that link as it’s been a long long time since I’ve read a Micrometer

    Got one of those from Lidl today, not something you expect to find in a supermarket. My tests pretty much confirmed what you found. For seven quid, I'm not complaining 😎

      Yes, not bad for £7. If you find the offset is wrong by the same amount all the time you can just calibrate it which is very easy. There is a tool in the box to move the barrel to make it right. (The one that has the long straight line on it).
      Many thanks for watching!

      @@BensWorkshopYeah, already tweaked it. That Lidl impulse buy is the reason I found your channel. 😂

      That is a shame. That said the digital caliper is good. Many thanks for watching.

    I personally use a lot of Parkside tool there cheap but effective. At £6.99 tbh that's not a bad price thanks for the review 😊

    I got one of these Thursday morning, very chuffed with it. Cheapest online is £15.00.
    Hope you do a detailed video on how to strip down and clean the micrometer.

      It is good value. I did show stripping and cleaning a Moore and Wright in a previous video (link below) so I expect I will get to it shortly.

      I did a strip and repair on a Moore and Wright one I bought at a car boot sale a while back.

    I'm a bit late getting round to this one Ben - that's definitely good value, and perfectly accurate enough for many people's usage - you don't often see battered and dirty old ones for less than a tenner at flea markets. It'll be interesting to see how easily it comes apart for a bit of a clean, which, as you say, could well improve it's performance.

      I have come across Moore and Wright ones for a pound at car boot sales... Also I'm in your neck of the woods right now at the Model Engineering Exhibition at the Warwickshire event center....

      @@BensWorkshop I guess you can get lucky finding almost anything at boot markets - always too much tempting stuff!!! Hope you enjoyed the model engineering exhibition - I was off in the other direction this weekend.

    I use a Mitutoyo that I have had for years. If it ever fails I might have to give this one a run.

    • @BensWorkshop
      @BensWorkshop  10 місяців тому

      I also have a Mitutoyo (as well well as the Moore and Wright. They are top notch instruments. You would not replace either with one that is this cheap! Though the cheapies are useful for messy work.
      I did buy a repair a Moore and Wright one, cost £1, in a poor state, didn't take long to fix it up.
      Many thanks for watching!

    nice comparison Ben, can't beat M & W, but the parkside looks value for money

    You forgot to mention the calibration tool that comes in the box. It says in the instruction leaflet that you may have to calibrate the tool before use. It takes about ten seconds. Might I suggest that would be quicker than taking yours apart.

    • @BensWorkshop
      @BensWorkshop  10 місяців тому

      I did forget to mention it. If the offset was consistent I would have calibrated it. Alas it isn't. Sometimes it reads a little over sometimes under. Also the barrel does not turn consistently smoothly either. It seems to have a little fouling which would explain the inconsistent results.
      I have calibrated many, and taken some apart to fix.
