This is a mulligan year for Pope . And no one expected us to be this good. Making the tournament would have been a fair goal . Everyone I know here in central Kentucky is THRILLED!
Concern? Sure. But they have been getting better. Panic? Hardly. 5 top 15 wins before this loss. Those wins mean they could afford to drop a game like this and it should hardly hurt them.
Nah, they're getting better at all the things they struggled with, pick and roll D, physicality, off rebounding, overall rebounding... theyre improving and numbers have shown it.
I love the way they responded last week against miss st and a&m. No reason to believe they won’t get better after this one too. Alabama is good, that’s all there is to it. So are we, but that 2pt defense still needs some work. They’ll figure it out. Everybody getting healthy will go a long way.
That’s the way to look at it plus it’s just practical….the defense we saw against Ohio St was disheartening. Average guys just beating us off the dribble over and over and over. We’ve gotten better and more than most teams were good at fixing issues. And look we’re not great defensively….but there’s no reason to freak out we can out score anyone on any given night and generally speaking we have great synergy and we consistently make good decisions That’s a recipe for beating most people. If anyone finds themselves whining too much just look towards the future. Our system is incredible and we’re gonna get better in the coming years
@jt1765 healthy would help, but that was just a game against two of best teams in America. They both played great, I don't think Bama could play better. Sears 24-8 I think it was, Grant Nelson career high, hit all their FTs and 13 3s... and yet Kentucky was a few wide open misses or def rebounds from winning. Next time it'll swing the other way, very evenly matched squads.
@ that’s the concern. I almost wish Pope didn’t air out Butler’s situation post game. I hope that teams don’t try to start bullying Butler I guess this little 6-7 day break is coming at a good time even though I love 2 games per week as a fan
This team has to get to free throws line more. Your opponents can't shoot 30+ FT every game and you shoot 20 or less. That's what has lost them these games. The FT margins .
Yeah they need to get better but it’s at rebounding and not fouling. 2nd chance points and the refs giving Alabama almost every single call. The defense has gotten better but they struggled in 3-5 minute spurts but mainly the bigs need to get back and help on drives. Also those 7 minutes Travis Perry played were huge because Kentucky had the lead or was a 1-3 point game when he came in and Alabama took advantage of it. This is College basketball and the SEC. Yes the defense and rebounding needs work but a panic video after one loss especially to a team like Alabama is ridiculous. They hit bigger shots down the stretch and UK missed done opportunities that’s it. I like your videos but come on. Kentucky won 2 of the last 3 against really good top 20 teams and could have went 3-0. Both teams are national championship contenders
There were two REALLY good teams playing each other. Somebody had to win and somebody had to lose. If we would’ve got the W, and Alabama took the L, then it would be the same kind of conversation and the same kind of disappointing loss only the topic would be Alabama instead of Kentucky. When 2 REALLY good teams play each other, then there’s gonna be a REALLY good team pick up a loss.
Pope is doing a fantastic job in year 1 with all new players. This isn't Tubby Smith taking over Rick Pitino's Final Four team in 1997-1998. Kentucky would have Arkansas' record if Cal had stayed.
If Kentucky did better job, offensive rebounding, get more second chance points. we would've a better chance winning the game. Plus we wasn't able to get to the free throw line as much in the second half.
what about UF, MSU , A&M and Bama, the amount of points they gave up to us, their defense must suck. maybe, just maybe the problem with our defense is that we've played against top 20 offenses more than anyone else in the country so far this year.
Definitely a cause for concern. They haven't defended for a full 40 mins, all season. Give up way to many easy baskets, a lot of times off multiple offensive rebounds.
How many of UK's transfers this year were below average or just average defenders. Any way to check their stats from previous years? That may reveal the defensive problems. Can transfers really change their defensive abilities after years of play at the college level already?
The early second half officiating really messed with the flow of this game. I think Kentucky was up 4 with momentum and then Bama went on a 8-1 foul run lol. At one point the fouls were 9-2 at Rupp...and Bama shot 14 more on the game, outscoring UK 13 from the free throw line. It has been an issue all season, as great as SEC basketball is the officiating is consistently terrible. It would be nice to get more home cooking at Rupp, but that wasn't the issue in this game. The issue was a late stretch of not playing winning basketball. I would call it losing basketball, honestly. UK ties it up on a Garrison dunk and the next play, Butler throws the ball 37 feet out of bounds. The play after that I believe, Butler threw a lob to Williams that damn near went over the backboard. Now I love Butler, but you can't do that stuff late in games and expect to win. Brea missed an uncontested layup, several players missed open shots, defensively we lost every 50/50 ball and completely lost three point shooters during those plays or offensive rebounds that lead to wide open threes for Bama, which they made. Kentucky missed wide open threes. They came alive again, but it was a little too late. This team has to fight for 40 minutes, and when your defense is suspect against a great offensive team, you have to be near perfect offensively and UK was far from that for a good 7-10 minute stretch in the second half. You need to protect home court in this league and Kentucky really could have used that win. With that said, hopefully Carr and Butler can get to 100% this week and UK continues to improve. Especially Carr, because he got absolutely embarrassed by the offensive fouling machine with a dumb mustache, Grant Nelson.
Look this year in the SEC you can lose to the team ranked above you but you can't afford to lose to the ones under you. And you HAVE TO WIN AT HOME. GO BIG BLUE!
They’ve only beat 5 top 15 teams so far. Lost to a great Alabama team. My opinion is that Kentucky seems to be improving in defense and rebounding. Great season so far
Our defense is a concern only when Robinson and Brea combine for under 20 points. I just want to know why we are the only team in the country that shoots less free throws at home than the visiting team the refs won't let UK play defense always a foul on us when we get a stop.
So Alabama put up 100 points on a bunch of crap teams. So that makes Kentucky look better that they gave up a 100 at home. No Kentucky just has no defense.
Obviously it’s a concern but I think we have caught some bad ref breaks in most of our losses too. Hopefully Pope will throw on some zone and different looks to try and throw teams off.
I think uk has a 80-90% chance of making it fo the sweet 16 and i think pope has done an amazing job with UK thus far considering uk didnt have any players really when he first came in and put this team together over a few months UK is in good shape regardless

Talk about Alabama's defense.
They gave up 97 points to Kentucky
I think Bama's defense is ranked in the mid 30s in defensive efficiency. They've been really solid on that side of the ball
@@doc8013they are ranked 100th
But u lost at home
@chuckroutionGB2022
Kentucky has beat 5 top 15 teams
@questioneverything1646 Auburn is the best team you will ply
The cats will be fine. This wasn't a bad loss. Defense is difficult to play in an up-tempo game. Defense took a backseat with both teams.
Yeah they need to get better but it’s at rebounding and not fouling. 2nd chance points and the refs giving Alabama almost every single call. KY will be fine. I’m sure they will have most of the issues lined out by March
Defense efficiency percentage still needs alot of improvement. It is on the right trajectory nonetheless
There were several drastic defensive breakdowns that should not have happened
If Kentucky did better job, offensive rebounding, get more second chance points. we would've a better chance winning the game. Plus we wasn't able to get to the free throw line as much in the second half.
All of this with Carr and Butler banged up and being questionable this past week.
Well, considering that they are banged up and kirissa isn't back yet, they are doing better.
Yea, it's been a concern for a while. They need to figure it out because if they're not hitting shots it's much harder to out score the good teams.
what about UF, MSU , A&M and Bama, the amount of points they gave up to us, their defense must suck. maybe, just maybe the problem with our defense is that we've played against top 20 offenses more than anyone else in the country so far this year.

#5 beat Kentucky AT KENTUCKY! KENTUCKY has two more losses coming.. Alabama at Alabama and then Auburn, Ole Miss. And Tennessee
Nah it's still early
YOUR DUMB QUESTION HAS NOW GOT YOU ON BLOCK
John Calipari is a joke, why in hell would you wear another teams colors on the sidelines of Arkansas razorback coaching gig
I think uk has a 80-90% chance of making it fo the sweet 16 and i think pope has done an amazing job with UK thus far considering uk didnt have any players really when he first came in and put this team together over a few months UK is in good shape regardless
UK will be fine. Long season.
Bottom line .. Alabama is better!
