- 'Mufasa: The Lion King' director Barry Jenkins, Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote music for the film, and cast members Kelvin Harrison Jr., Anika Noni Rose and Aaron Pierre chat with ET's Nischelle Turner at Disney's D23 Expo about the film, which hits theaters on Dec. 20. Barry opens up about Blue Ivy Carter's 'wonderful' acting debut as Kiara in the movie after her mom, Beyoncé, voiced Nala in 2019's 'The Lion King.' Lin-Manuel shares what it was like to create music for Mufasa's origin story. Plus, Anika and the cast react to releasing the film 30 years after the original animated version.
I am so excited , I feel like a kid again and i am 83 years old.
Blu is gonna be amazing like her mom 🙌 she’s really adorable.
Ppl swear that Beyoncé is forcing Blue into the industry when in reality she went to her mom and asked to dance with her on tour, and the director of this film said he wanted her specifically for the part after hearing her previous work.
Blue Ivy actually bagged 😂❤
Blue ask Bey to dance on tour
Why is she going deep with the blu ivy questions this is about mufasa like yall make it awkward for the actors who really are the stars of the movie cmon man
Makes you almost not want the watch by changing the damn focus again... SMFH
I was thinking the same thing smh
I'm going to cry💙💙
A blessing. You go BLUE. God bless. My granddaughter America needs a break out of all 9. Of my grandchildren she carries the whole package she is only seven. Her and Blu got that special Beauty of talent. If you only could meet her.
I’m so excited for baby girl Blu!💙
Omg this is beautiful ❤I’m happy for her ❤
She only got the role because of her parents
@@zachreber4574 Yeah because her parent in real life plays her parent in the movie so it’s a good thing to have the actual daughter of the person who plays play Nala’s daughter in the movie.
Awesome team wow just looking at this made me feel that I was there❤
This is going to be a wonderful sequel film with Blue Ivy in it!!! ❤😊❤😊❤😊❤😊
The only reason why she's in it is because of her parents
@@zachreber4574I mean it's still kinda fitting considering that she will voice Kiara who's the daughter of her mom's voiced character
@@zachreber4574 how when the director went to blue Ivy Carter lol. Did you listen to the interview
@@PrincessNikki0802 and you bought that? What's he supposed to say? Yes, she got the job because of her mother? Come on, this is Disney we're talking about. Of course they're not going to say that. And I mean come on. You actually think that a child who has zero acting experience would get cast in one of the biggest blockbusters of the summer on her own? Nope, that's not realistic
@zachreber4574 It's voice acting
What a time to be alive
its call nepotism and thats how blu ivy got the part js
Almost all actors come from a family of actors. Look it up! Drew Barrymore got E.T. because her Grandfather was in It's a Wonderful life. Nick Cage is really Nicholas COPOLLA!! Goldie Hawns kids, Megan Ryan's kids, Tom Hanks kids, Ron Howard's kids like come on! Is it cause they are black???
@@lvlysticgirl girl stop bringing race into this, and it has nothing to do with race. ANY rich celebrities regardless of color can get their kids into any acting role or singing career easily bc they got connections and MONEY.
She’s more talented than north that’s for sure
@@KrystalToribio exactly, blu can def dance. i would pick blu over north.
@airbornecow1 Blue can’t dance. She did the easiest choreography up there. She wouldn’t get through an audition with that.
I'm looking forward to seeing this ☺️
I’m a Jamaican living in Texas my passion is to be in the acting industry.I would love to be apart of this 😢❤🙏🏾🤍
🇯🇲🇯🇲 i feel that way too🤞🏾
Beautiful cast❤🎉
Uuuh Aaron Pierre... he is so dreamy 😍 ❤
Who dis tall gorgeous man standing up.
He played Malcolm x in the new movie for Martin Luther King and Malcolm x he's a very good actor
Aaron Pierre
Ahhhhhh! A Dreamgirls Reunion. I didn't realize Anika was part of this
I love how they use both actors who played Martin Luther King and Malcolm x I know it's going to be a good movie because it was great actors
That’s a hellva cast right there! Kelvin and Aaron together! Anika N. Rose, is an excellent choice but in terms of voice acting I’m going mostly for Keith David- Love That Man!
Can't wait❤
I'm waiting to see this movie.
Love it for Blue. Love it! Go Blue!!!
Amazing
Perfect...she going to be like her mom talented..
The only reason why she got the role is because of her parents
How did Blue Ivy get the part? Because her mom is Beyoncé of course
Did you listen?
Did you listen to the interview lol. The director said out of his mouth he didn’t go to her parent. He went to her after hearing her narrate hair love
Are you talking about the Grammy they stole and give to her instead of giving it to the Weekend who really deserves it ,we all know why she’s playing the part smh
You know how many people love brown skin girl. You know how many young lady was singing along with the song. She deserves the award. You must not know how Grammy Rules work
@@PrincessNikki0802she only got this role because of her parents
@@zachreber4574 she didn’t get the role cause of her parents. Did you listen to what the director had said he heard her voice over for the book hair love. He said that was his Kiara. She did amazing maybe you need to listen to it. Matthew Cherry who is the author for hair love ask if blue can be narrator for his book cause how she was being treated when she was young about her hair. Everything blue had done so far was only with her parents. You must not know director always doesn’t do audience. If they see somebody previous work in the past and they like them they will try get them first. Just like halle for Ariel the director saw at the Grammy and said that was his Ariel and told her to come in to audition but he already knew he want her. Also bey even told blue know when she want to dance on the tour. She definitely didn’t get the role of Kiara cause of her parents. You know how many nepo babies In the industry lol. My opinion they have it much harder cause they expect to do great cause of their parents. Anyway she got the part noting you can do about it. Also so many people in the movies that are new comers
Awesome 👏👏👏👏Lion King 1 Of My Son Favorite 😻
Respect to Beyonce and her legacy/body of work 100% and congrats to miss Blu too!. But please don’t make this film all about the Carters when you are quite literally in the presence of the rest of the cast who actually want to be there and have made the effort to be there for not just the glory of the film but the stress of press junkits etc. Actually properly acknowledge the cast in front of you never mind who isn’t there.
Ms Regina No harm intended but this commentary was 8 minutes long. They spoke about Blu Ivy for 1 minute. I feel in no way was this film made to be about The Carters. All of the cast sitting here was allowed to speak and had great things said about each one. Again no harm intended. 😊
@@1Sherrell1No this is just one instance, I’m not talking this one instance I’m talking collectively, much like the 2019 film where everything was made out to be “The Beyonce film with lions in it”. I guarantee you the slew of junkits are already going to be focused and fixated on the Carters. The press pit at D23 was proof of this.
They know people will see this film because of Beyonce and blue. I didn’t care for lion king remake live action till I found out bey was in it. Didn’t care about Mufasa till blue Ivy and Beyonce was going be in it. They know bey fan will support what she in. Get used to cause the carters will be talk about lot during interview.
I feel that people who were born that year 1994 should have got a chance at fame. I have a beautiful voice. I was born that year. It would have been a dream❤
North Worst vs Ivy League, baby!!
This NEPO BABY wants to be a STAR so bad!
She already a star
@PrincessNikki0802 No she’s not.
@@GoogleuserToday-oh9qf but she is lol. She was star before she was born.
Kiara is Nala’s daughter so if they have the opportunity to get the actual daughter of the person who plays Nala to play Kiara, why would they not want that? Nepotism is a good thing here.
Next film
Blue sure looks like her Dad. Pretty dress.
❤❤❤
Umm interview the people in front of you please. Talk about Blue Ivy when you interview her.
Nepotism hire 😢 stealing the spotlight for talented actresses
Stop hating and stay in a broke persons place
@@blackspiderman4766 are you a blue ivy fan? Is anyone?
She is a talented actress.
@@MisssKayy i hope so 🤷♀️
Jealous much?
I figured the live action universe would have gone the route of using Simba's son from Disney+ to be more accurate to how lions actually are but no I guess we're going the lion King 2 route by having the heir to the throne be his daughter which makes no sense for lions
Talking lions don’t make sense either yet here we are.
@reginarichards6261 it makes sense that we the audience would understand the characters. Meanwhile putting emphasis on Simba's daughter instead of his son doesn't. Nala was also Mufasa's daughter as well as the other cubs in the pride. That's how lions are. That's why you didn't see the other cubs with a different father or lionesses with different mates. If Mufasa ignored Simba and instead focused on Nala or another female cub, that would make no sense. Just like how Simba doing that makes no sense.
@@TheRealCSD6What? That's absolutely NOT the Lion King lore. Nala isn't Mufasa's daughter and she never was. Her father is actually shortly seen in the show The Lion Guard as a cave painting. And even if we seperate the animated and "live action" canon I'm 100% sure that they won't go the incest route here either. Also we literally have Simba who growed up by only eating bugs and grubs. Even though they're going with realistic looks for the movie they're definitely not going all in with realistic animal behavior. Also Kiara will be the only child from Simba and Nala in this movie yet. They literally don't even have a son here besides her
@Vadigrie I didn't say they had a son yet. I said it would make more sense if they used his son instead of his daughter. Basically switch the characters. Obviously they didn't do that so the son isn't born yet and only his daughter is born in this movie. Even if their daughter in "the lion queen" we still would need a male lion to be the king. The lions are a patriarchy and the hyenas were a matriarchy. That was already established in the live action and in reality with those two types of animals. So it doesn't make much sense that Simba's son wouldn't be the king. As for insest... obviously that doesn't need to happen in the movie but the romantic interest for Simba's son is literally her cousin Scar's son in the lion King part 2.
@@TheRealCSD6 Again, not the Lion King lore. Kovu is not Simba's cousin and in no ways related to him or Kiara as it's multiple times stated in the movie that Scar wasn't Kovu's father and that he just took him in and choosed him as his heir.
Now that's what I call nepotism at it's finest.
*its finest" not "it is"

@@lvlysticgirl no, have you not seen how Beyonce's family gets extreme favoritism because they are connected as a family? Don't even try and paint me as a racist either. Maybe look up how people have called out that only Jayz started getting awards cause he was linked with her. She's using her connections to further their nepotism in this instance at least to me its very apparent. Also when someone earns their jobs in the scene they don't get called out for their nepotism. She looks so much like Jay Z. All of Beyonce's kids look mostly like him too.
Sadly...I hope they are nothing like him on the inside though.
Nah she a mix of Bey & Jay the other two are Jay z
That’s their father. Y’all must not have dads in your community.🤦🏽♀️
Jay z has strong features. Beyonce's genes did not stand a chance.
How exciting 🎉🎉🎉

@@lvlysticgirland they shouldn't get those roles either based on connections only. Neither should Gigi or Bella Hadid or Kendall Jenner become models based on their connections.
