Cine Footage Ballinrobe 1950s/1960s PART 1

This cine footage (31 mins duration) is from Ballinrobe Co. Mayo, circa late 1950s to early 60s
It shows the Ballinrobe Railway Station, a Fair Day & footage from the Agricultural Show.
There is another 20 minutes of footage to be published in PART 2
This footage has been sitting on a shelf in my office for 15/20 years. I have forgotten who it belongs to at this point. But it's worth watching........much to good to be sitting on a shelf.

Absolutely superb stuff. At 4:51 we see a brand new diesel locomotive, which must be at Claremorris or thereabouts, as they never made it to Ballinrobe. The fact that the locomotive looks brand new would date this particular bit to October / November 1957.

Mara. This is Ballinrobe in the 1950-60s. Our family, the O’Tooles raised sheep and are probably in the film somewhere. The equestrian events are in the middle of the video. This is your Irish roots!

This was filmed by John Collins who had the Rex cinema in Bowgate Street and later the Ritz cinema in Bridge Street. He captured many events around Mayo including Croagh Patrick , Lough Mask & Ballinrobe races.
