The ottoman archives describe which nationality the inhabitants of FYROM identified as in the past century. The IMRO made a mistake by thinking Macedonian is an ethnicity, same goes with today's "North Macedonia". It was, is, and will be Greek, till the end of time.
IMRO never thought there is a Macedonian ethnicity, they used Macedonian as a geographical term. You can see that if you read their documents and the books and articles of the IMRO revolutionaries.

Some people wanted independance, some wanted aoutonomy within the Ottoman Empire, some wanted autonomy within Bulgaria and some wanted full unification with Bulgaria. Very often these factions within the organisation resorted to infighting and many of them were killed by other VMRO members.
The Ottomans classified people based on which church they went to not based on ethnicity. The Balkan peoples did not yet have a concept of ethnicity back during the Ottoman days only during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century does the concept of national self identification become a thing. Before that they just identified as Christians the term Bulgarian is a corruption of the term Vulgaros which in itself is a corruption of the term Vulgar which means "of the common folk". Since most slavs at the time were simple pesants and made up most of the commoners

The Helsinki Monitor, in 1999, said that about 10.000-30.000 "ethnic Macedonians" live in Greece. Most of them live in Florina and Kastoria, as you said. In the past, many more Slavs lived in Macedonia, but because of discrimination, the outcome of the Greek Civil War and the Balkan Wars most left for Yugoslavia. The ones that stayed were mostly absorbed with few left today.
Of course, similar policies were followed in Vardarska Macedonia, during the Yugoslav times. During the Greek Civil War the Greeks that arrived in Yugoslavia had to change their last name to a Slavic sounding one. The Greek community of Monastir and Gevgeli, numbering 100.000,almost entirely vanished.
So, this also goes vise versa. Many Slavs hold Greek blood.
